Sadly this happened to I guy I worked with years ago. He was in his fifties also when his wife left him. He started going to strip clubs and this skank and her "brother " beat him for ten thousand dollars.

Depends what you mean by "better", the folks at church often harbour some downright nasty, small-minded prejudices.
