Remember those Quisp commercials where the alien dude would zip around using the propeller beanie? Well, they SOLD those beanies for a while, and I bought one. I collected my box tops, sent in my $2 in quarters taped to an index card, and waited breathlessly for my power-beanie to arrive.

Some few weeks after the "allow eight weeks for delivery" deadline, the magical event occurred. I was the proud possessor of a crappy felt beanie with a plastic propeller on the top. I gave it a spin. No liftoff. Nada. Not even the trademark burbling whine of the mighty turbines. You can not imagine the let-down this was to a six year old boy who just wanted to fly.

This, the cardboard "submarine," and sea monkeys (all purchased with full faith and confidence in the honesty of people who place ads in the backs of comic books) are the reasons so many children of the 60s and 70s have "trust issues" to this day.

Well, maybe. Unless, of course, the Chinese have maps.

Ah, the Quisp/Quake war of 1967.

I believe Quisp came out the victor in that one.
