To those who lost loved ones this week, my thoughts are with you. Hardly a Caturday goes by that I'm not moved to tears at least once by sadness as much as by laughter and delight. This is something most of us share. Yet I always feel I don't know what to say, or that I can't say the right thing.

OK all, I thought we were done with the Dragon birfday caption contest, but a couple of late entries made us rethink things. (yeah, WE, Dragon is now losing his mind over a new shakey mouse...but when he settles down, we will discuss it) so we will be back in a little while to award the winners.

Well, Caturday is almost over, but my neighbors came over this evening. One of the strays they've been caring for just had kittens and was hit by a car a few days later. :( So they brought over kitten goodness!

This is Savannah, who pretty much slept on my boobs the whole time.

Safari likes tugging at your heartstrings through the camera.

And Sierra was really fiesty and gnawed on my neighbor's hand the whole time.

They're all so sweet and I fell in love with Savannah. They'll be old enough to adopt in eight weeks, and I'd take Savannah if I didn't have two guinea pigs.

AprillaDeVille: And now for Caturday AFTER DARK:

Those were great! I LOL'd.

Reminds me of the time I moved in with someone who had a fixed male cate (and a couple of little dogs). Anywho, she had a cute antique teddy bear on her bed, and she mentioned how much her cat loved to snuggle with it.

One day I happened to observe the kitty's "interaction" with said teddy bear, and I asked if she was sure the cat was fixed. She said, "Oh, most definitely"! I told her I thought that the cat was being "amorous" with the teddy bear. She didn't believe me, so I said watch him the next time he's "playing" with the teddy bear, then tell me what you think.

All the time she had this cat, he had been humping that teddy bear several times daily. When it was finally pointed out to her, she was shocked. Needless to say, to this day, I still chuckle every time I think about that.

/sorry, no pics, but it really did happen
//would that have made the cat some kind of a "furry"?

Wait, wait, don't tell me... I think that that's a Pink Panther movie, but I can't remember which one. Gawds, those movies were great.

meer markt: I used to enjoy caturday threads. I tend to read a post before the farker's handle on these types of message boards.

And then one caturday, I read the handles of the farkers posting, for I had figured it was a number of different people.

And there are plenty of posters in a caturday thread, but there is a core of disturbingly frantic participants. Not gonna lie, today it got a little creepy and awkward as I just kept reading

...An honourable mention to missionpants who obviously went to some trouble to post ALL those names in a pic.

Oh no trouble at all! Its funny all the names I can think up for my cats! It sounds nuts, but you really have to get to know their personality first and they sort of name themselves... I'm just so happy such a beautiful creature has decided to adopt you as its owner, LOL!

And a MILLION thank you's for the subscription! That was very kind of you! Best of luck to you and your kitteh!

DoomsDayAardvark: Posting this for my mom and dad:

Hemingway came into our lives almost three years ago to the day. We'd seen this strapping big guy roaming the alley and the neighborhood for about a year before that, often keeping company with a sociable little female we called Muriel. She showed him that we were a reliable source of food. For a long time, we thought he must surely have a regular home because he was so friendly and eager to get to know us. But there are lots of apartments nearby and it's not unusual for cats to be dumped when their owners move out.

One day Bob was talking to Hemingway on the porch, when Hemingway spotted some birds in the yard, sneaked around behind a tree and pounced, slapped one bird straight out of the air, gave it a quick coup de gras, and dropped it into his food dish. "You see? This is what I've been forced to do for food!" Those big polydactyl paws helped. It wasn't long after that that he showed up for dinner with some bloody nicks in his head, and they didn't get treated. I was afraid that someone had shot him with a pellet gun, and obviously he was homeless.

We packed him off to the vet, where we learned that his injuries weren't serious, and that he must have been somebody's pet at one time, because he'd been neutered, but sadly, he was FIV+, probably from his year on the street. We couldn't bear to put him down, so we brought him home, making a safe area for him to keep him away from our other cats. When we let him out of the carrier, he was clearly overwhelmed with gratitude that he was still indoors. A home again!

He was so glad to be in the house that for the next six months he never looked out the windows. He was very gentle and his manners were perfect, and it took many more months before he was assured that it was all right to get up on the furniture. He was a great companion for watching television, reading, or working at the computer. His two joys in life were his laser-pointer toy and his brush. Can cats smile? Hemingway did when he started his diesel purr while being brushed. We'll miss that and we'll miss his company. RIP.

They tell me that they've got more pics, but they haven't been able to get them to me yet.

syzygy whizz: My vet uses a lot of homeopathic and naturopathic remedies to help with behavioral issues

Yeah, I've tried feliway, and .. uhm, something that gets added to the water, the name of which I can't recall now. It didn't do anything for the general mood of the group (which is pretty relaxed anyway), and it didn't do anything to help Butters (the cat who hides under the bed). Nine times out of ten, if he gets into a disagreement with another cat, it's because he started acting yeowly and defensive before they even noticed he was there. That triggers them to get aggressive, and then you have yeowling kitty fight down the hall until he's safely hidden under the bed again. No serious injuries, thank god, but it's noisy as all get-out, and it makes him scared to come out. Which means he pees and poops under the bed a lot, and only goes down to the other room to scarf down as much food at a time as he can. He'll eat what my 'gorge on it and then hork it back up' kitties deposit in the bedroom, too, to save having to go down the hall.

That said, there are only three cats in the house he has that problem with. The others just don't react if he acts scared, so he's stopped acting scared with them. The others are the ones more prone to being pushy, though, and when they see him acting up.. well. It reinforces itself. If I could just get him to calm down a little, and not flip out as soon as he sees the other kids, I'm thinking that might just break the chain, and pretty soon they'd be past it, and I could probably try getting him off the meds (I think you have to wean SSRIs, but that's not a problem). I've tried the water additives and stuff, and they just don't seem to do squat for him (or remove the tiny bit of aggression he draws out in the others).

And man, acupuncture? My cats would puncture anybody who tried that on them. They're pretty patient, but they have their limits, and that would cross them :)
