Evil Canadian: Help! We need your help!

We just got a new kitty who joined our family on Monday. Unfortunately, we have drawn a total blank about what her name is. She is going to be B I G. She is pretty much unflappable, loving and playful, although she looks kinda stoned or emo most of the time. We have kitties named Louise and Aleeta already, but are totally stumped as to what THIS kitty should be called. So, a month of TF to whomever gives us a good (or the best) suggestion :)

By the way, that is a Dog Nylabone beside her, not a big blunt.

meer markt: I used to enjoy caturday threads. I tend to read a post before the farker's handle on these types of message boards.

And then one caturday, I read the handles of the farkers posting, for I had figured it was a number of different people.

And there are plenty of posters in a caturday thread, but there is a core of disturbingly frantic participants. Not gonna lie, today it got a little creepy and awkward as I just kept reading

nb.t t3.wy 'nkh.ti rnp.ti dj.t nhh: I can tell you, though, that trying to medicate the two boys who spray would just cause them to get absurdly upset. You've seen that 'how to pill cats' bit?

We crush up the cat pills and mix it in with their food. Have never had a problem. Maybe you could try that? And, there are some, like prozac, that's available in liquid form. They can still smell the medication but can't pass up the fishy cat food smell. It took ours a couple of days to really get into the "new taste" but he just gulps it down now.

Yeah, I'm thinking it (paxil) might be a good idea for the under-the-bed cat, to ease some of his anxiety. Nine times out of ten it's him getting defensive that sets the other cat off. And he's much easier to medicate; he'll even take pills, as long as I give him something special afterward. How much does it cost? Pills cheaper than liquid, or vice versa? And this is a prescription you get from your vet, that you fill at a people pharmacy, like Walgreens? I didn't know people pharmacies would do that, but Paxil is a people medicine, and the online pet drug places don't seem to carry it.

The others, though.. it just seems to be more like a bad habit, than anything they need drugs for. Maybe having the house cleaner in general will help, and when hubby moves out he'll end up taking some of the furniture and bookcases and whatnot, so perhaps it will be less like an inviting maze in which to pee (the only places they squat-pee where they're not supposed to is in the dining room, or in the study, which is his room full of junk). I'm certainly hopeful.

I still find it interesting that the two who spray, don't spray where I sit, or on things that are specifically mine. They know I'm the boss, I guess?

Our vet calls in a prescription to WalMart. We use the generic Paxil. It's called Paroxetine. It's pretty cheap. He gets it once a day and it costs about $10/month.

Hm. Not a bad idea for fabrics, but it requires saturation of the object you want to de-smell, and I don't think that will work on my walls. The bookcases could take it.. but not the books. The doors and the table legs would be ok.. and hubby's couch, although at this point that thing's so filthy it just needs a good solid cleaning anyway, cat pee or no cat pee. Most of the spraying is on the walls, though, so this would only be a spot solution for me. Assuming the behaviour isn't just habitual.

If I had a job, and some kind of money, I'd invest in all sorts of products, but at this point, with no job, no prospects, and hubby moving out in a month (I may end up rather homeless, and no telling *what* would happen to the cats then; if any of you know any rich people who find their pockets are too heavy..or even a dozen semi-rich people..), I'm leery of trying out things that may or may not only partially solve the problem.

Too bad feliway doesn't work for de-stressing humans. I could use some :P

Hm. I just talked to my local Kroger pharmacy, and it's on their $4 plan. So, $4 for a month, or $10 for three months. I'll have to talk to my vet about this on Monday, because if it calms him down so he doesn't feel like he has to poop under the bed, and it's that cheap, and since he's easy to drug (all it costs me is thirty seconds and three treats), I may very well go for it. Thanks!

Those are two of my current four (my brother actually has two of his own also). The black one is Zeus, and the Russian Blue is Gray. He (Gray) was actually just a scrawny stray last summer when my mom found him. Now he's our fattest cat. He's also very non-threatening; when we got Yuschi (our tabby, might post a pic later or next week), he kind of flipped out, and for a while we had to keep the two of them separated sometimes, as they'd fight and we'd find clumps of cat hair all over the upstairs hall (though you wouldn't notice any missing from either of them, of course). Gray doesn't have any problems, he's friendly toward both of them.

i have a Russian blue that i am in the process of semi-adopting that i have named Gary. :-)

this is kind of an odd pic of him and he is part Tabby. from different angles, he looks different. he reminds me of some of the other Blue's here especially the one with the two in the cooler. :-) he's in the yard here enjoying his favorite, a chicken leg.
