Glad you like them! I have like 600 Fishing Cat pics. I like to post them because most every other cat here is a normal 'domestic' cat (then again, I'm not sure if there are any 'normal' cats...).

Dear Cooperdakat, Sherpa18, Bessy Glass, lajimi, and all other Caturday posters:

just "single-ing" you guys out as you have been mentioned by the below referenced Mr. markt. please continue your obsessive posting to the great fark tradition that is Caturday. at least WE have a hobby. :-P

as for you, Mr. markt, *points*, the exit is clearly marked over there. you may use it at your leisure. OR... please feel free to stay and enjoy teh luls. :-)

as for "dominating a fark Caturday thread"? IS THERE such a possibility?!1?!

please continue to post all new, old, regular, and infrequent posters. as for you lurkers out there, come on in, join the party! :-) or just continue to lurk as you wish. all are welcome; none are excluded; no posts are unappreciated (save for morbid ones, please none of those - do try to keep Caturday full of teh luls, not the "ews"). posts are welcome captioned or not, well photographed or poor, old or new. "showcase your cat. :-)"

And then one caturday, I read the handles of the farkers posting, for I had figured it was a number of different people.

And there are plenty of posters in a caturday thread, but there is a core of disturbingly frantic participants. Not gonna lie, today it got a little creepy and awkward as I just kept reading

SgtArkie: Speedy_Declipsed: I take care of a small feral cat colony that lives near my house, and one of the younger cats, Sweet Pea (who really is that sweet!) actually caught an adult squirrel yesterday. I could not find my camera in time to catch the fight -- and oh did that squirrel fight! -- but I did catch her marching up the hill with her fresh catch. Feel free to caption or just marvel at the rare sight! :)

I have been around cats all my life , only a few years ago did I realise cats eat squirrels I got quit the squirrel hunter here, but I havent found half squirel parts in a good while. I have watched him stalk them.

I used to have a squirrel hunter who brought home presents. One day she was walking around the house with a half of a squirrel, I never could find the other half.
She also brought me a 3 ft black snake once. It wasn't dead yet, she left it on the porch so she could play with it for a while.

Now none of my cats go outside so I don't find assorted wildlife in my house anymore.

CooperDaKat: leftteffticle: caturday, i need some advice.

"...but hasnt had a full check-up with urine and blood tests in...well, years." ..."and she has litter box issues. she "spite-pees" when shes mad. and just a few days ago i caught her spraying (she's spayed)." thoughts, advice, anyone?

First...would it be possible to get her to a vet for a urine check for infections or crystals? Also have them check the anal glands, they could be impacted. Any of those 3 could be the cause of "litter box issues".
Second...talk to the vet, there are several medications that could help with "emotional issues" and spraying, such as paroxetine (generic Paxil) or Fluoxetine (prozac). you can get the generics fairly cheap @ wal-mart with a Vet's prescription.
If you want a copy of feline behavioral issues and treatments, you can find our g-mail addy in our profile, send us a quick note, and we'll send ya a copy.

The drugs (generic prozac) worked reasonably well for my parents cat Nero (who has the same issues) for a while, but eventually they stopped. But definitely give it a try, maybe you'll have better luck.

it sounds like the cats are definitely trying to mark their territory. i assume, since youve tried feliway, you've sprayed the crap out of the places they tend to frequent? also, are there litterboxes in the dining room?

sorry i dont have much helpful advice, im trying to figure the same thing out on a much smaller scale. kitty prozac might help? maybe if they were chilled out they wouldnt be so compelled to mark their territory.

OrbitalFerret: leftteffticle: caturday, i need some advice.

[snip for brevity]

What should I do? It makes me ill to think about having to put this sweet kitty down because her person didn't want her anymore and she's older and a little difficult. I only have until august 14th to figure this out. Thoughts, advice, anyone?

One thing you can do is take her picture and list her on Petfinder.com as a senior special needs kitty. But, the first thing to do is get her out of that apartment and bring her home, even if she has to stay in one room. Cats are social and she'll be missing her humans terribly, even if they left her behind. A good size crate or cage would contain messes and still be a better home than what she has.

Maybe one of the local rescues can do a courtesy listing and put the cat on Petfinder or Adopt a Pet. Adults are more difficult to find homes for, but there are some people out there will take on special needs cats.

leftteffticle: caturday, i need some advice.

regulars here may remember i have been posting a personal ad of sorts for my friends kitty to try and find her a new home. as he has already left for the east coast, she is staying alone in his apartment and i am cat sitting her. also, the duties of finding something to do with her have fallen to me. she's an 11 year old cat, which is the first strike against her. shes in good health, but hasnt had a full check-up with urine and blood tests in...well, years. and she has litter box issues. she "spite-pees" when shes mad. and just a few days ago i caught her spraying (she's spayed). and then i discovered several wet spots on the carpet yesterday, which i had never seen before but the apartment smells so ungodly bad it's really hard to tell if its old or new smells. i knew she had issues with peeing on his girlfriends stuff (hence why the cat is being abandoned) but didnt realize until very recently that it seems to be worse than that.

ive asked around friends, strangers, here, craigslist...found nothing. the 3 cat rescues that contacted me back told me they would not take her because she cannot be rehomed. i have hopes that another local cat rescue may take her, but i have not been able to get ahold of anyone through it. if i take her to the humane society, she'll be put down.

what should i do? it makes me ill to think about having to put this sweet kitty down because her person didnt want her anymore and she's older and a little difficult. i only have until august 14th to figure this out. thoughts, advice, anyone?

I can't take any cat, as my cat is jealous of other cats and will attack them. (I had another cat for awhile, until she beat him up enough that she had him living on the back of the toilet, and my parents too pity and gave him a new home.) Also, I'm on the east coast, and can't imagine how I'd get the cat here even if I could take it, or knew someone who could. Surely someone out there will give her a home.

If she's difficult indoors, might she make a good farm or greenhouse cat? All the farms and greenhouses around here have cats. It's like a really big house for them, filled with dirt and plants, small rodents, and bugs to chase and eat. And it really doesn't matter if they spray here or there.

I also might suggest a bit of subterfuge here. You list a number of negatives about the cat, but no positives. Are there no positives? Make some up. Pretend you're selling an old car with some, uh, personality.

hahaha. you make a good point. i dont mean to focus on the negatives, but well...as much as i want to find a home for her, i feel its only fair if people know what they're truly getting themselves in to. its only fair for them AND muggsy.

but there are a lot of positives about her. she is just the sweetest kitty. shes a little shy and skittish, but as soon as you get to know her, she is sooooo loving. when i go to visit her, she emerges from her hidey spots and just falls to the ground, belly-up, asking for loving. if i sit and watch tv, she hops on the couch and rubs her face on me and demands petting. and when shes done with petting, she snuggles up next to me. and she's got these big, gorgeous yellow eyes and is so good at using them to her advantage. ive never met a kitty who could give such good puppy-dog eyes, haha. she's a wonderful cat, just wonderful.

Hi leftteffticle,

We had the same problem as you and found a solution that was last option. We were not open to it for a year or so before we did it, but we let her go outside. Our problem cat is an adorable 7 year old calico I inherited. Putting her down or taking her to the shelter was not going to happen. We tried everything short of kitty prozac, which I heard works for cats that mark the house. Long story short, she wanted to go outside and so we let her. This turned out to be the answer. She stays close to the house and comes in to eat and sometimes to spend the night - she loves people, loves being outside more. She went from being an unhappy, nervous wreck to a happy little cat. We don't have problems with her anymore. She hates other cats, but she is now friends with another outside cat and fends off other cats very well because she goes off the deep end if they even look at her - thus she is not worth the hassle to them.

I know that every cat's situation is different, but hopefully this can work for your cat. If she's marking or spite peeing, she might be a neurotic like our cat. If you don't want to set her outside, get her health tested and if she's healthy, kitty prozac and retraining her with Cat Attract litter could help a lot.

leftteffticle, nb.t t3.wy 'nkh.ti rnp.ti dj.t nhh, DoomsDayAardvark and anyone else out there with a cat who has an elimination problem...

We have had this problem also and know how frustrating it can be to try and figure out and control. We tried 3 different meds before we found one that worked (Paxil). He also had impacted anal glands and we think that was also contributing to the problem.

We have a document published by The American Association of Feline Practitioners about feline behavior and in it, there is a chart listing different medications to try based on specific symptoms and causes. It also explains the many reasons for inappropriate elimination. You can find it here (pops)

have you tried making totally a enclosed 25' [long] x 12'[wide] x 7' [tall] cat run out of green plastic chicken mesh on rectangular 2"x2" outdoor wood frames that can be tied or screwed together [use 8" triangles of 1/2" cdx plywood on corners of frames]
put alongside house & put several little cat houses in there, bushes or silk trees/plants, and a cat door to inside.

since you have Eleventy cats, 2 of these each side of house and one in the garden
