here is a whole page of (no kill) shelters in Illinois.
http://pawhelper.tripod.com/ilshelter.html

good luck.. I could send you $10 for tests. Any other farkers up to the challenge? 20 people...$10 each...testing paid for?
Will check back in a little while.

Evil Canadian: Help! We need your help!

We just got a new kitty who joined our family on Monday. Unfortunately, we have drawn a total blank about what her name is. She is going to be B I G. She is pretty much unflappable, loving and playful, although she looks kinda stoned or emo most of the time. We have kitties named Louise and Aleeta already, but are totally stumped as to what THIS kitty should be called. So, a month of TF to whomever gives us a good (or the best) suggestion :)

By the way, that is a Dog Nylabone beside her, not a big blunt.

How about: Domino or Har le Quinn?

And then one caturday, I read the handles of the farkers posting, for I had figured it was a number of different people.

And there are plenty of posters in a caturday thread, but there is a core of disturbingly frantic participants. Not gonna lie, today it got a little creepy and awkward as I just kept reading

leftteffticle: caturday, i need some advice.

regulars here may remember i have been posting a personal ad of sorts for my friends kitty to try and find her a new home. as he has already left for the east coast, she is staying alone in his apartment and i am cat sitting her. also, the duties of finding something to do with her have fallen to me. she's an 11 year old cat, which is the first strike against her. shes in good health, but hasnt had a full check-up with urine and blood tests in...well, years. and she has litter box issues. she "spite-pees" when shes mad. and just a few days ago i caught her spraying (she's spayed). and then i discovered several wet spots on the carpet yesterday, which i had never seen before but the apartment smells so ungodly bad it's really hard to tell if its old or new smells. i knew she had issues with peeing on his girlfriends stuff (hence why the cat is being abandoned) but didnt realize until very recently that it seems to be worse than that.

ive asked around friends, strangers, here, craigslist...found nothing. the 3 cat rescues that contacted me back told me they would not take her because she cannot be rehomed. i have hopes that another local cat rescue may take her, but i have not been able to get ahold of anyone through it. if i take her to the humane society, she'll be put down.

what should i do? it makes me ill to think about having to put this sweet kitty down because her person didnt want her anymore and she's older and a little difficult. i only have until august 14th to figure this out. thoughts, advice, anyone?

Oh dear. Sounds like our house. We got our Lilith (our tabby that looks so much like your "Yay Caturday" cat) from a friend who got her from a friend who got her from someone who got her from someone. So, by our reckoning, we're her home #4 or 5.

When we got her, she had improper urination issues (she peed on stuff), but fairly rarely. It's been 6 years and now it's almost every day. We've redone the basement floor last year and the new paint on the concrete is already peeling from what we not-so-affectionately call "Lake Lilith". I buy smell remover liquid by the gallon. She's been checked regularly by the vet, blood tests, you name it. There are enough litter boxes around and they are kept reasonably clean. The diagnostic, in so many words, is that she's messed up in the head, maybe from bad treatment as a kitten. We tried Prozac, but she was so scared from having to be fished out from under the bed twice a day to get her pill that it made things worse.

She's an old gal now (we think 14-15 years old), and the vet told us he would agree to euthanasia in her case if that's what we wanted, since this is a serious problem and she is not adoptable. It took her months to get used to me when I took her in (I was living alone at the time), and every time we moved has been a huge trauma for her, so going to a new home would just be massively unfair to her. And every time I have to throw away a brand-new area rug we think that the time may have come, that maybe putting her down is something we should consider.

Mind you, we've been saying that for a few years already, so she'll probably go to the bridge because of old age or suffocating by forgetting to breathe when she's fed her weekly can of skinless, boneless, tuna-style salmon. (Tuna is certainly not good enough for this queen).

Soooooooooooooooo... get her checked by a vet to rule out physical issues that could cause the improper elimination. Then, if nothing is wrong, discuss the alternatives with your vet. He/she may be aware of further resources to help out.

Evil Canadian since this kitty seems to be on the "slow and relaxed" side of the scale, I suggest "Gary".

I know it's a female, but it's funny for me, because I love SpongeBob SquarePants.

Get over yourself. Caturday is a nice way to relax. There is so much shiat going on in the world right now. If these farkers enjoy posting cat photos and caption them, what business of it of yours? Plus, there are many people on Fark that do not post in these threads but enjoy viewing them. (By the way, lurkers, come on out, we don't bite and enjoy any cat photo that isn't sick or violent!) Personally, my father and I view Caturday as bonding time, where we just sit and view the cats. We laugh. We snicker. We have fun. And if it wasn't for the Caturday posters you called out and the other Caturday posters, well, we wouldn't have a fun laugh each Saturday.

There are many Farkers that post here and enjoy the thread because the lolcats entertain them. There are some that can't have cats due to health issues but want one. This help feeds their cat lust. Farkers post in this thread when they have cat questions because they know there are people in this thread that truly and honestly care about cats. Farkers post in here as a support group for dearly departed cats that were family members.

So, if you don't like a few people dominating the Caturday threads, you can do two things: post cats yourself to get a variety, or, as this cat is captioned:

One thing you can do is take her picture and list her on Petfinder.com as a senior special needs kitty. But, the first thing to do is get her out of that apartment and bring her home, even if she has to stay in one room. Cats are social and she'll be missing her humans terribly, even if they left her behind. A good size crate or cage would contain messes and still be a better home than what she has.

You may have named her already, you said it right in your post, She is going to be B I G. One of the (many) names for my 20 pound Maine Coon is Big, while my 7 pound Calico is often called Little!

There are some vets who specialize in behavioral issues. This is going to sound funny but I'm absolutely serious -- some cats respond well to what amounts to "kitty Prozac" (a small dose of an antidepressant).
