The Okapi is my very, very, very favorite animal. I have two model okapis, a set of Okapi postage stamps from Zaire, and a collection of photos of myself standing in front of the okapi enclosure at the San Diego Zoo grinning like a total fool. That baby is the most adorable thing I have ever seen, my own child included.

We have a pair at the Cheyenne Zoo in Colorado Springs. The male's always sniffing the female's butt while she tries to sidle away from him.

Yeah, they're phylogenetically forest giraffes. They're awesome critters. Usually pretty even tempered, ridiculously soft. I miss them!
