The Romans called the Iberian peninsula "hispanola" so the people from there and their decedents are technically hispanic but that word had changed to mean people in Central and South America, Cuba, PR and DR. Republicans and conservatives (of the social nature) typically are against homosexuality to varying degrees. Many republicans have been involved in homosexual scandals.

It would be one thing if they didnt have an opinion on it, but when they rail against it and also have numerous high profile examples of hypocrisy, it becomes a running joke.
