LemSkroob: really, really wish the Friars still were the lead on these. CC sucked the life out of it, the very premise of the show.

The point of a roast is to attack (with love) your fellow comedians. Its a sign of professional respect.

When you start roasting outsiders (Shatner, Hef, Pam, etc) the event loses its meaning.

Have to disagree because Gilbert Gottfried following Ice-T for the Hef roast is the funniest damn thing I've ever seen on television.

I enjoy these roasts and get plenty of laughs out of them but I agree that they haven't been as good lately. The group of failed comedians all make the same jokes as each other, and the non-comedians who are friends of the person being roasted sound like they're reading scripts of the same jokes again.

FWIW, I just saw Joan Rivers and Don Rickles Friday night and Joan's act was pleasantly surprising. She was a raunchy old broad and my friend and I were probably the youngest members of the audience. There were many a blow-jay jokes and the f-bomb was dropped constantly like a hot potato and at times I had to stifle my laughter when the elderly around me weren't sure how the hell to react to some of her jokes.
