Wait a minute. Back. The fcuck. Up.

Any discussion of MTV VJs that leaves out Martha Quinn fails miserably. I clicked through all 18 of those to see her. My disappointment is palpable.

No Kurt Loder either. I haven't watched MTV in a good 20 years. I wouldn't think he's still there.

This. No Martha, and yeah JJ may be dead but at least give the man his props. And about half that list weren't really VJs, they were newsreaders and TRL hosts. There's a difference.

Kurt Loder is still on MTV. I happened to come across him giving information about Michael Jackson's death when I was flipping channels the other day.

Also, what ever happened to the homeless guy that won a VJ role or something like that? I do not remember his name, but I seem to recall he was homeless and won a contest that made him a VJ.

Riki Rachtman has always been a tool. I remember he used to whine on camera when he got hate mail because headbanger's ball started playing crappy videos. He also said that "Faster Pussycat would dominate the 80's rock scene." Basically he hasn't changed at all, except now he looks like Eddie Munster.

naturalselection: I clicked through looking for Jesse Camp. Left disappointed.

From Wikipedia:

Camp held his position as an occasional TRL host for one year. When he left the series, Thalia DaCosta won the contest to replace him, who in turn was a VJ on the network for about a year. Upon leaving Camp attempted to parlay his MTV fame into a rock career under the name Jesse & the 8th Street Kidz on the Hollywood label. In late 2006, he was reportedly working at a Los Angeles-area pet supply store called Centinela Feed & Supply. In 2008 he began working for a non-profit organization called "Telefund" as a caller, raising money for non-profit liberal and progressive organizations.

So he basically went to retail and then telemarketing. Possibly because no job in their right mind would hire a goofy Salvation Army reject except if he was shoved in a cubicle for the rest of his life.

Doesn't he do a syndicated music show that focuses strictly on NASCAR? I think it's like Dee Snider's House of Hair, only much more pathetic.

Well Mark Goodman, Alan Hunter and Nina Blackwood have brought their MTV 80's play lists (read: No artists of color needed) to Sirius/XM. One of the many reasons I canceled my XM subscription.

XM radio was a fantastic service with a diverse selection of music and talk that was turned into a low quality ripoff. They tried to charge me a $2.00 a month invoice fee to convince me to give them a credit card number. I had prepaid for the quarter, demanded and received a refund. Invoice fee LOLZ.

Look to see if you get Palladia, the HD channel MTV Networks is pushing their music programming to. Watched a rather nice Futureheads half-hour as well as the Take Me Out video from Franz Ferdinand last night while idly channel-surfing.

They need a better personality, though; the way they present themselves is a bit too fragile. MTV's logo was pretty great at setting a tone for the channel, with the "TV" looking like graffiti on the big "M"; I think the crystalline butterflies they use on Palladia doom it to presenting rock as though it's classical music.

Then again, rock's not dangerous anymore, is it?

It is a small world, especially in Los Angeles. I use to buy dog food there around that time. I wonder if he ever rang up my kibble and help me haul it to my car.

I met Martha Quinn. She was dating my roommate's, band singer. This was about 20 years ago and all I remember was she had 2 large dogs and I think about 6 or 7 cats. She had one more, but she was such a strict vegetarian she only feed her pets vegetarian pet food. Because of that wacky diet one of her poor cats died. Nice girl, but a bit hippy-dippy back then. I was surprised he wasn't there - that's Matt Pinfield. He's the morning host of a rock station in NYC for about a year now. They brought him in to be a knowledgeable DJ who would put a more interesting mix of tunes on the air, but he hasn't. He plays the same Aerosmith and Stones tunes every other classic rock station has played to death, with an occasional newer song in there. It's somewhere down below the polka station in the ratings.

No Kennedy, no Dave Kendle, no Downtown Julie Brown. Did EW bother to do some research first? Half the list was chumps that hosted up to 2007.

I am starting to think it was a bunch of college interns who came up with this. That in which is pissing me off. How could they leave out Adam Curry?

Seriously, how can you leave out Curry, who has really had a huge second career in Podcasting? He, along with Leo Laporte, has had a huge influence on defining what will likely become a huge part of the future of broadcasting.

I also got really mad when they left out Steve Isaacs the guy who went onto Who's Tommy traveling Broadway Show... When I was in elementary school I always thought about that guy having his way with me. Even now if he wanted his way with me I would still let him.

/Steve Isaacs is hotter than he was in the 90's by far....
//going into my room think about him now

Steve Isaacs was last seen in a really short-lived band with Dave Navarro in 2007 called Panic Channel.

Country_Goodness and Green_Peaness: I was interested to see where this little finger sniffer landed.

Jesse Camp was last heard of as a telemarketer and photographer's assistant in L.A. (I've heard about the telemarketing and saw the photog assistant part first hand)

yeah & now he is relocated to NYC... Hopefully he will do something & beat up MTV to its original state though it more than likely will never happen...

Ummm, how does "spin-off" = "rip-off"? It's produced by the same people as the ones who do "The Soup" (just like The Dish). Joel even had Chris on the show a few weeks ago to announce the debut of his new show. Now if you want a rip-off, "Tosh.0" would be more accurate

She now co-hosts a show on KFI in Los Angeles with Bryan Suits, and they call it "Kennedy & Suits" (listen online at kfi640.com from 7 to 10 PM PST). Suits is an atheist in contrast to her Christian sensibilities, so you might hear them passionately disagree about something from time to time. One issue they argued about was legalizing the sale of organs. Kennedy, who's against it, at one point tried to use the fact that she had a degree in philosophy from UCLA to one-up Suits. She demanded, "How many philosophy degrees do you have?", to which Suits snarkily responded, "Three, as a matter of fact." Good times.

Didn't MTV "run" him as a Presidental candidate in 1988? Like that guy who used to work on Laugh-In who ran every time. I remember watching one those seemingly endless behind the scenes at MTV shows where that hoser John Norris remarked about how MTV wanted to throw themselves into the 1992 race, instead of making fun of it. Thus, we got the famous "Boxers or Briefs" apperance by Bill Clinton on MTV. I know that helped him greatly. Don't forget, at one time, it was Bill Clinton who was the fresh face of the Democratic Party and was compared to JFK. So long ago....
