If this is true, I'm never getting Alzheimer's. I may blow out my heart from the overcaffination, but at least I'll never...

wait, what's this article about again?

I was hoping for video of some overly caffeinated mice, burning out the light bulb connected to the little treadmill.

I had way too much No-Doze once. I have some sympathy for the mice when that shiat crashed out.

Can someone please tell me how they know when a mouse has Alzheimers? And what do mice have to forget anyway?

I'm guessing they forget the way through the maze to get the cheese.

I've been washing down five-mouse omelets with decaf every morning. Maybe that's why I can't find my car keys; I'm doing it wrong!

This is a Fark thread. Why would you pollute it with clear thinking?

Gonzo317: \Approves

I don't think Speedy's on caffeine...

I like the portrayal of him on Drawn Together where he's obviously coked out of his gourd and suffering from nosebleeds.

Mice are bred with defective genes leading to rapid build up of plaques in their brains. The plaques, which are seen when they look at the brain, combined with poor performance in cognitive tests allows them to simulate human Alzheimer's.

/Coffee is there anything it cant do?

Told me mum she needed to drink more coffee so I could remember who she was.

She almost had a stroke laughing.

Anyone who has seen someone slipping into the depths of dementia has got to be happy about this. This is Fark and all so I expect tons of comedy gold with it, but in all honesty this should be front farking page, not just on the geek tab. I wish it had been in time for my wifes grandfather, and I hope it truly works on people.

Hopefully it will be effective in humans as well. However with the number of older folks who have high blood pressure I don't know how many of them would be able to benefit from this.

ZAZ: I once gave my four year old sister caffeine. That was fun.

When he was four, my mother gave my brother an antihistamine that contained caffeine, although she didn't know it at the time. He ran around and around the dining room table, laughing wildly. I chased him around for about ten minutes, then I got tired, and just sat on the couch as he kept at it for another half hour.

Caffeine was not good for my little brother.

RemyDuron 2009-07-06 03:27:28 PM
So, wait, does that mean they gave caffeine equivalent to the amount in 5 cups of coffee to one mouse? Or does it mean that if you take the amount of caffeine over the weight of the mouse and multiply it by average human weight, you'd get the amount of caffeine in 5 cups of coffee? Because it seems like humans would need much more caffeine than mice for comparable effects.

That's about what sudafed would do to me, except it would last more than an hour. It was crazy. One time I jumped off the couch and landed my groin on an upside down shepherd's crook. It's about then my parents decided that I didn't need sudafed anymore.

/I didn't seriously damage myself, but it was a few hours before I could walk without immense pain.

It probably won't work on people. These things usually don't. The vast majority of promising looking potential treatments for cancer, heart disease, stroke, and everything else, go nowhere.

Both, actually. They used tiny mouse-sized cups.

Actually, true story, Pot has the opposite effect on hamsters that it does on humans. They get SUPER hyper, and run around non-stop for hours. That's when one of mine figured out that he just had to hold onto the wheel while the other two ran, and he could go over the top over and over and over again. The also learned to cling on the screen lid, and ran around upside down.

...oh...and it gives them cotton mouth.

Terry Pratchett has early onset Alzheimer's, and is a dedicated coffee drinker.

Sadness.

Gave a mouse a shiat-ton of Valium once. Didn't do much to it.

Gave one some speed once, was running around like crazy.

Gave a mouse some chloroform once, it fell over, shook around, and died.

Guy I know got his monkey drunk, it would swing around from rope to rope like usual, but often times missed and fell on its drunk monkey ass.
