if i had a DS, i'd definitely buy this. since it's bayer, it probably takes the contour strips.

My 6 year old does a great job managing his diabetes (Type 1, not a fattie), but he has broken my wife's DS. I think we'll stick with his regular monitor/test kit.

I'm sure actually taking care of your kid and making it known that he needs to be responsible (even for his young age) counts for something :)

When I was in grade school there was a girl born with Type 1 (also not a fattie) and she would carry a bottle of insulin and inject herself at school along with doing testing herself. Pretty much about 15 years ago I'd say.

They need to make a gadget that will register your BAC, sell them in college towns, and watch the alcohol poisoning rate soar!

The scene in Ocarina of Time when you first encounter Dark Link still stands as one of the all-time most awesome moments in videogame history.

Halfway through the hardest dungeon in any Legend of Zelda game, and then you enter that room...man, still sends chills down my spine.

Might be interesting to see if I see any of these this week. My convention center resort is hosting a big children with diabetes convention. Haven't seen any real 'fatties' (as someone felt the need to put it) yet.

As a diabetic what I'd really like is a real-time all the time monitor that I could wear like a watch, if such a thing exists. You know, with alarms for when the levels reach certain points. Until then, I'll continue to forget to test myself more than once a month or so.

Uh, kids get diabetes kind of commonly for things other than dietary reasons.

Anyways, this is a fantastic idea.

Will they include wireless upload of results? I love that this solves the problem of kids losing their meters, but keeping constant track of their game system.

Perhaps other game designers could build in power ups or bonuses for good readings? Or a regular schedule of readings?

And there are wrist worn meters designed to provide constant monitoring. I think it was recently pulled from production, but there are a number of similar solutions in the works, let's hope one of them takes.

Type 1 diabetes (little kid die-uh-BEET-us)
Results from the body's failure to produce insulin, the hormone that "unlocks" the cells of the body, allowing glucose to enter and fuel them. It is estimated that 5-10% of Americans who are diagnosed with diabetes have type 1 diabetes.

Type 2 diabetes (fatty die-uh-BEET-us, but not necessarily)
Results from insulin resistance (a condition in which the body fails to properly use insulin), combined with relative insulin deficiency. Most Americans who are diagnosed with diabetes have type 2 diabetes.

Unfortunatly most childeren die before they can imput the friend code into Wii-Nsulin.
