Up yers, dude. Paradise Island at Downtown Disney is for 21 and up. Epcot is a lot more fun without kids in tow, since you get to enjoy places like the Biergarten and not have to endure screaming rugrats. Animal Kingdom is great for taking photos.

Disney parks are great without kids.

You can bet that Disney will no longer allow people to ride up front with the Pilot from now on. If you have any of the Co-Pilot cards, keep them.

Lived near WDW for 5 years, with 2 small children. Have ridden up front countless times. Good times always.

If you read the legal opinion in your own link, the only restriction is on publication, and even then no permission is required if the person is already a public figure or the object of a legitimate news story.

As I said to someone else here. Face this fact: Somewhere on the internet, someone has your photo. And has used it in an abhorrent sexual fantasy.

This is going to sound terrible, but I noticed the victim was a senior at Stetson University... and I know how much it costs to attend. The first thought that popped in my head was, "Wow, that was an enormous waste of money!"

I feel bad for the family for their loss, seriously. I'm sure the tens of thousands of tuition down the drain isn't even a blip on their screen. But I couldn't help but have that thought.

Submitted anonymously for fear of termination - Monorail pink was clear of the station and stopped (waiting for the track switch to switch for another beam), and monorail purple was given clearance to enter the station. For some reason, someone gave monorail pink authorization to reverse to back into good position after a slight overtravel. Apparently they never switched it back to forward and monorail pink ran full speed in reverse back into the station hitting monorail purple. The CM who died was not at fault, and was doing his job. The fault CM was either the one in the Control Tower, The Pink driver, or the Manager who was supervising the transfer procedure. Any of these news reports about 'suicide attempts' are inappropriate and sorely mistaken. He followed his Tower's commands and died because of their mistake.

No prob, I'm actually surprised that the website still exists. It's actually better now.

Really good resource from a former castr member. I grew up in Florida for a while, and now I live in Orlando. I'm just glad there are a few people who remember the rides the way they once were.

"remember when"????

When I left DL security in 2004, we were still chasing pot smokers out of just about every line in the park, and I have no reason to think anything has changed.

The only reason you're not doing it now is only because you're not brave enough to do it, is my guess.

I absolutely believe that. I don't know how the DW monorail station is set up (I worked at DL) and an accident like that probably could not have happened at that speed, but it certainly could have happened. If the spur track wasn't reset to divert the incoming train...oh, yes.

Hours sucked, union (SEIU) sucked worse, and I got totally frustrated with the security policy after 9/11, which involved taking away all our power, discretion, visibility, and proactivity; and then required us to "get out there and let people see you; but don't be too obvious about it."

Seriously. When they took loss prevention off shoplifting detail, made us watch the access points 8 hours a day with no breaks, but had no plan in place for what we should do if we saw something suspicious--I had to leave.

1. The people you were quoting were discussing the act of taking pictures in a US located Disney property. Therefore, Quebec laws don't apply and are really irrelevant to this discussion.

2. From your own link, the comments below cite many exceptions to requiring permission, including (but not limited to) the below:

-A. When public interest prevails
-B. When you are in the photo in an "incidental manner"
-C. When said photo is used in a noncommercial manner

Next time try to keep up with the thread, dearie. It makes you look less dumb. I shouldn't have to do your research and destroy your arguments with your own "proof".

Unfortunately it wasn't the bastard who decided to close the 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea ride

Man, I've been to Disney World maybe seven times in my life, and EVERY TIME I WENT, the damned 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea ride was closed for maintenance. Every.Single.Time.

So I never got to ride it.

However, I did see Captain EO when it debuted, so now that MJ's dead I have one more MJ recollection than a lot of the younger crowd. They can buy Thriller, but they can't experience Captain EO as it was those many years ago.

I also managed to purchase a limited edition statue of a skull from the Haunted Mansion gift shop. It's dated and signed by the sculptor, and it formerly sat in the window of the shop as a "not for sale" prop, but as they were out of skull statues at the time, the person working the counter sold that one to me. I believe they were unaware that it was unique and not one of the mass-produced skulls they sold in the shop.

But that still doesn't make up for never getting to ride 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea...

I remember "Captain EO," it was at Tokyo Disneyland for a long time, complete with subtitles (subtitles in 3D movies are weird they sort of float in the mid-ground).

But, I actually preferred the original experimental showcase film they had before "Captain EO." That one didn't really have much of a story but it just had scenes designed to show off the 3D technology. Part of it is a shot of kids on a merry-go-round and they have to grab the brass ring, it floats in front of your face (you can't get it of course) and then one of the kids reaches out and grabs it.

In fact on NPR yesterday there was some feature about new 3D movies in American theaters that don't have red and blue cellophane cheap glasses but rather polarized fancy plastic lenses, and I was wondering, surely that's the same ones they had at Disneyland way back when, it was explained to us those were polarized, and it was interesting to borrow my brother's one and stack it on mine opposite eye to opposite eye and see it goes opaque, even though it just looks like sunglasses.

Honestly though I don't think I've seen a 3D movie SINCE "Captain EO."

isamudyson 2009-07-06 12:11:52 AM
Honestly, I am completely shocked by this accident. I have ridden in the front the the driver a few times and always was impressed ny Disney's safety record with the monorail.

That said I wonder how many E-Tickets it would cost to ride this now?

/still had complete unused ticket books from when WDW first opened

I moved to Winter Springs in '86 and we got year passes the first week or so we were there. Awesome 5 years... Must have been to each park 30-odd times.
Go ride thunder mountain? OK, then off to The Land restaurant at EPCOT for dinner.
Back when Imagination still had Dreamfinder and the Imageworks was upstairs and cool. (The whole thing has sucked for years, now)
Back when If you had Wings was still there.
Mission to Mars too.

Why do I remember the Pirates sometimes having a drop/fast descent at the beginning, sometimes not?

Pirates at DisneyLAND has a massive drop at the beginning.
Pirates at DisneyWORLD does not.

Has to do with the watertable at Orlando being so much higher--there wasn't the depth to put in a big drop in DW. You may be remembering DL, because DisneyWorld never had Mission to Mars--that was only at DLand, and it was 86'd in the early 90's.

Disneyland's Pirates has two drops at the begining to take you under the train tracks and into the show building, while Disney World does not have the drops.

pink wouldn't have been able to go in reverse at full speed if purple was so close. the safety system needed to be overridden and even then the top speed would have been 15mph.

also, why would pink wait for the track to switch and then back up? it would either take the full trip back to epcot or reverse back to above timberline drive. this explanation doesn't make sense.

i can see the train traveling in reverse so it could transfer to the shed, but how didn't the purple driver not see the pink train reversing back?

No this was back in the 80's and possibly the early 90's. It doesn't exist anymore I'm pretty sure. Wait maybe it was Canada. Man I know it had scenes like forests, water etc. and it seemed as though it was a flythrough. It was definitely a circle vision style attraction.
