So some of these have real images, then it says it's false because the story behind them isn't correct. Ok.

That last image.. Awesome taste indeed.

morbo 2009-07-05 04:03:51 PM
So the question asked was: "Has this image been doctored?" Yet a good percentage of the "false" pictures were not doctored, they just had misleading descriptions, which they didn't include with the "true or false" picture. That's some good reporting there, Lou.

Alright, I think they need to adjust their definition of "true".
The pic of the whale shark is a real photo, it hasn't been doctored, it was just presented as something it was not.

I love how they ask 'True or False' then say it was false because the original caption stated it was something else without presenting us with that original captions until afterwards.
Morons.

For the record I spoted every photoshop but the one with the people running from a big wave... isn't that the tidal bore thing that happens all the time? But they've labeled it false... I bet it's because of the caption that was orignaly with it that they failed to give us.

rhiannon: So some of these have real images, then it says it's false because the story behind them isn't correct. Ok.

I came here to say this. The original question was "Has this image been doctored?" not "Is the story behind this image true?"

The True/False designation was really confusing, also, in view of that question.

So in other words, FAIL.

Yeah, I liked how the one with the trailers was "false" even though it was a real staging for a play. With no other context how is that false? It wasn't otherwise manipulated (unless I missed something subtle).

It's actually an EST 2000 system. We use them in the Army, and they work pretty well for guys who need to brush up on their fundamentals. There's always a few guys who can barely score the minimum on a live-fire qualification, and it gives you a heads-up on what they're doing wrong, i.e. poor sight picture, rough trigger squeeze, unsteady position, constantly changing their eye relief, etc.

We'd usually go to the EST shoot-house a few days prior to a live-fire qualification range, just to knock the rust off, and to identify our problem children. You know, the guys who are still hitting less than 50% of their targets and you're running out of daylight, while everybody else who shot Expert or Sharpshooter is sleeping on the bus, waiting for them to score the bare minimum so you can farking go home.

That's not even good photoshop, much less real. Someone may have stacked a bunch of shiat on their Jetta, but it sure as hell can do that to the rear suspension on that car. Even that is too optimistic since it is a Jetta Trek or GT and therefore has a rear spoiler, making the ridiculous angle even stupider. Add in non-existent attachment points, and Snopes gets a big fat fail for calling this real.

It happened in Waldorf, Maryland. My ex-girlfriend was stationed at Andrews Air Force Base at the time this happened, which is just down the road. It made the local news. Home Depot or whomever made the guy sign a damages release, after the guy showed up and bought enough construction materials to rebuild the World Trade Center, and asked for help loading it all into a farking Jetta.

What you can't see is something like a 1000 lbs. of concrete mix in the back.

You're missing something: they didn't stack the wood on at a "ridiculous angle" like that, and when he tried to drive off the load slipped (you can see how the twine is streched backward), and the impact of all that weight rolling down the black is was destroyed the suspension. Or, at the very least, that's what the photoshopper intended you to think.

It's real, again, like everyone else has said. It was a huge sensation on the Vortex forums when it happened. Someone who is in the local VW club there went to the Home Depot and got a copy of the form they made the guy sign absolving them of all responsibility for whatever happened when that guy tried to drive away.

The best pics are of the rear strut pillars. They tore through the rear package shelf and cracked the back window. Also, the sleeping individual in the front seat, but that's something else entirely.

You're just not understanding that the rear tires would be firmly planted into the ~1/8th inch steel of the rear fenders, with thousands of pounds of force.

If you loaded 3000 lbs of lead into any MK3 Volkswagen, and shoved the wheels far beyond the point of contact with the inner wheel well, the car would be undrivable. The front tires would simply spin.

Sure, the picture could be viral, unphotoshopped nonsense. They would have to cut out the rear wheel wells, mount the lumber precariously (probably while reinforcing the left rear C-pillar so the glass didn't break), and jack up the front end with suspension blocks or similar shenanigans because the car simply wouldn't lift the front end like that (note concrete and lumber place in front of the rear axle).

It doesn't really matter though, because it would still be fake viral nonsense.

The truth is probably something along the lines of "removed rear springs and shocks, put in concrete, photoshopped on lumber".

I think they were saying it was all on top at first, and slid down, destroying the rear end of the vehicle as it went. And that Home Depot pretty much knew it would do that, but the poor engineeringly-challenged driver didn't.
