People have a tendency to do stupid things, especially when they're young and errr... stupid. The MySpace culture seems to have made it "cool" to publicly post evidence of this stupidity.

It's one thing to do something stupid. It's quite another thing to be so proud of doing something stupid that you post it for the entire world to see.

I certainly wouldn't deny someone a job because they did something dumb when they were young (with reason of course). I might, however, deny someone a job if I felt they lacked the discretion and common sense to not draw attention to this fact.

I know lots of cops and most have questionable pasts. Several come from cop families and brother Joe or Uncle Bob said "get your degree in Criminal Science, then I'll get you a job."

Before realizing in their junior year that "it may be somewhat competitive, so maybe I'd better study some", they where the same jack-ass kids doing the same jack-ass stuff most kids are doing. The only difference is that brother Joe or Uncle Bob got them off if they were caught.

Fast forward to today and all those pictures that were taken of you when you were being a jack-ass are now posted for all to see.

Guess what? Cops are people just like us. They drink, fart and act stupid too.
