Marc Andreessen, Leo Laporte, Molly Wood and Jason Calacanis? WTF? What about Tim Berners-Lee? Vint Cerf? Paul Mockapetris? I'd vote for Al Gore before any of the latter three.

Jubeebee 2009-07-05 03:03:24 PM
If you'd like to nominate another candidate, then you are welcome to do a write-in. Simply post in the discussion thread below and make the subject line of your discussion post "Write-in candidate: John Doe" and then explain why John Doe is the best candidate in the body of the message. If you'd like to vote for a write-in candidate that someone else has already been added, simply reply underneath that write-in candidate with a message of "I vote for John Doe" in the subject line.

If one of the write-in candidates receives an overwhelming number of votes (100+), then that candidate will be included in a run-off with the top two vote-getters in this poll, but only if a run-off is needed for one of the two reasons mentioned above in the rules section.

Hell yeah. Leo is a freaking madman when it comes to the internet, and I think electing him 'president' would be a great honor. We can look at all the people who have built programs or ran companies that built programs, but it says something about a man who makes it his role on Earth to spread the love of the Internet and bring new people into the fold. Presidents don't have to have to know much about their job (Bush), don't have to have any prior experience in the field (Eisenhower), have a good sense of humor and sarcasm (Obama), and don't have to really pay any attention to the job while they are there (Carter) and focus on other things.

I'll always remember Leo for something he's probably long forgotten. Back in 1996 I published one of the early web magazines, which Leo first saw at an industry event. He just flipped at what I'd done on my dining room table, and after that meeting, went out of his way to promote me and connect me with people who would give me exposure. Through his thumbs up, I ended up getting on MSNBC as the Site of the Week, a Kim Kommando promo, and a feature on CNN. I will never forget his encouragement and generosity of spirit. He did me a real solid.

That's my vote. Andreeson is a Founder, but he's not in charge.
And why is Al Gore not on the list?

Deadly Earnest is important.

Because even if he got half a million more votes, the supreme court would step in.

I've loved Leo since I first saw him co-hosting The Screen Savers with Kate Botello on ZDTV back in '98. Awesome show, and the two of them had terrific chemistry.

He's super knowledgeable without coming off as a know-it-all, a genuinely likable personality.

So for that, yeah, he should be voted King of the Internet.

Epiphany: This guy doesn't know anything about the internet. The internet is not a Democracy, it's Anarchy, and moot is the closest thing to a "leader" of the internet.

Moot lives with his mother and runs a website filled with child porn.

Your argument is moot.

My vote would go to Martin Sargent. He truly understands the graces of the Internet and all of the secret lusts of the Internet.

Moot is our dear President of the Internet.

He's the founder of 4chan and Admin at YTMND. He probably has a Fark account that he fails to use.

mARBLECAKE, ALSO THE GAME

I'll cast a write-in vote for Olivia Munn.

Jon Postel is spinning in his grave at the very idea of an internet president.

I hate that jackass.

Agreed. Idiot thinks he is funny. My left shoe full of rancid oatmeal is funnier than that fool.

And here I was thinking I'd be the first to express such sentiments here.

The idea of an Internet President makes about as much sense as giving the President of the US a button that would turn off the internet in case of emergency (anyone remember that bill?). Writer doesn't seem to "get" the tubes, yo.

But since we're talking about it, I vote for this guy...
