I'd like to envision Mike Leigh chasing the Harry Potter producers around London screaming, "Give me back my actors!!"

Not without patrick stewart its not.

Nighy is good and all, but I'll still take Rickman and Oldman any day of the week.

Stantz 2009-07-05 09:23:24 AM
He's not gonna have much to do.

**old spoilers for the few that haven't read the book**

Rumours abound that Bill's playing Rufus Scrimgeour, which means the character isn't in Half-Blood prince, which is no bad thing, as all he did in HBP was try to get Harry to tell him what he and Dumbledore are up to, for Harry to tell him to shove it.

His part in Deathly hallows won't amount to much either. He turns up at the Burrow during harry's birthday to give the trio the details of Dumbledore's will. The next we hear of him is that he dies when the Ministry falls to the Death Eaters

/Token Extra Brit?

It's really clever how they use British actors for what is essentially a British film, given it's setting and everything.

Farking amazing. And the fact that they use good actors instead of crappy ones - wow, progressive!

I still want Christopher Eccleston to sign on, if only so they can have both the 9th and the 10th doctors in the series.

Thank you for being all American with me.

I'll bet BNtheSG could cook up some cool magicky looking special effects as a bonus.

If there is no Rufus in HPB, then their is no "the other minister" scene in HPB. I was kind of hoping to see that, actually.

Mandapants 2009-07-05 10:07:22 AM
Bill Nighy? Why not Simon Pegg or Mrs. Slocombe and her magical pussy?

Or old Grindelwald.

Just sayin'.

Me too, but it's just filler. I was hoping Blair would pop up, he fancies his hand at acting

No, Grindelwald is in it, but they're just showing him as a young man when he meets Dumbledore. This dude is playing him.

I love these movies so much.

Can't wait till the last two movies, when the headmaster's motives turn out to be because of his mad homosexual young crush, and half the cute kids from those Chris Columbus flicks meet a terrible and unfair demise.

Love it!

Now THAT'S how you do a movie series, Hollywood.

Yeah, but that was sort of a throw-away part. In book 7, he actually has stuff to do, so they might want someone with a little higher profile to play the part.

I'm generally against changing actors for a series (even Katie Holmes in Batman), but this case wouldn't seem like that big of a deal. If it actually is Alberforth. It may not be.

The one coming out this summer is based on book 6 of the series. Book 7 will be split into two films.

At least we know they're keeping the gay love in it, then. Fist of an angry god on that kid.

Stantz 2009-07-05 05:44:10 PM
No gay love. Sorry to disappoint you. The book angle was that while Dumbledore was looking his sister he got bored, then young Gellert entered his world and they became 'friends'. The movie has no reason to sway from that plot

Shirley Ujest 2009-07-05 06:15:01 PM
If you ever get a chance to see Love Actually, listen to the DVD commentary. Bill Nighy is on it and he has a lovely little line the first time his character, Billy Mack ( an over the hill rocker) appears on screen. " I look just like my dad."

Marzamapan 2009-07-05 06:25:53 PM
I thought for sure it would be Colin Firth... I love him.

But Bill Nighy is cool. Rufus played such a small role in HBP imo that I won't really miss him. They mention at the end of OoTP movie that Fudge will get sacked and I'm sure that they'll write in a conversation like "what do you tihnk of the new minister" kind of a thing.

I remember when HBP was coming out JKR released the description on her website of him.. and everyone was speculating that they thought Crookshanks was an animagus...

Yeah... HP nerd right here.

Lionesque, with a loping grace? I'll admit to you, the first image that popped into my head was Badger from the Wind in the Willows TV movie. Dunno why

Hetfield: He's likeable, but he's far from being a good actor.

He had the range to be Slartibartfast in HHGG, and Victor in the Underworld movies, and be good in both. I don't think I've seen him in anything else, but those were good.

I know you probably meant the big 3, but Miranda Richardson was Queenie, Robby Coltrane was a ghost in the Blackadder Christmas Carol, and Miriam Margolyes was the lovely Infanta of Spain ( although Madame Sprout does not appear to be in the last 2 films.

So some Blackadder representation.
Or linkage anyway...

Bill has confirmed he's playing Scrimgeour and has been quoted as saying 'He's a very very important man'

Yup, one with 5 minutes of screentime. Might even undercut his Hot Fuzz performance
