Nevermind, I'm thinking Steve Young. Damn, I'm a Colts fan, I should know my Titan's QB's better than this. We're both in the AFC south, anyhow.

He came to W&M football camp I attended, one of the smaller kids asked him what it was like to lose the Super Bowl by one yard.

He laughed a bit, "It sucked!"

Seemed like a cool guy, that's a shame.

I always liked McNair. He may not have been the most skilled qb, but he had a balls-to-the-wall mentality that I enjoyed watching. Easily one of the toughest qb's I've ever watched.

I've always hated the Titans, but McMair seemed like a good dude. God rest his soul.

I was thinking the other day, this is like a sporadic apocalypse, all these people dying in droves. I know they're celebrities, but they're dropping like flies all of a sudden. I've had some personal losses as well recently, so as far I am concerned, this stupid year can hurry up and be over with.

First they go big... Michael Jackson. Take out a worldwide symbol of what it means to be American. He's the Statue of Liberty. Then we go local, niche. Billy Mays hits the insomniacs and old people hard. Farrah Fawcett obliterates the adolescent masturbatory fantasies of the middle-aged. Karl Malden hits film geeks and old people again (our weakest link). Carridine puts some worry in the fetish crowd. And now Steve McNair... right at blue collar Real America and black people.

It's self-evident that this is a coordinated assault on our famous.

We need to bomb someone now.

Kierkegaard's Pseudonym: First they go big...

I see your reasoning, and based on McNair's toughness and general badassness, I'm going to have to posit they had to get rid of him quickly, while his guard was down, so he wouldn't be around when the actual open hostilities begin at the Jackson funeral later this week.

doesn't look too bad. Maybe a place where urban redeveoplment was taking place, hence the new townhomes. Still probably didn't deserve this

The area around 2nd and Lea in Nashville is not where you'd expect a multi-millionaire NFL QB to be hanging out; it's definitely not well developed and there are plenty of low-income government housing nearby. Not saying he didn't have his reason for being there, only that it's not where you'd expect to see someone like him.

He was on the wrong side of Broadway. Broadway and 2nd North is the tourist/pedestrian area, with clubs/bars and upscale restaurants and stuff. From Broadway to 2nd South is more rundown or "in development", save for Demonbreun St. He wasn't far from the good side of town at all, but he still wasn't in it.

What surprises me the most is that this didn't happen in East Nashville.

What? I lived down there for years. It's not that bad at all. Have you just not been to many "bad parts of town" in other places? There are way, way worse places in Nashville than 2nd/Lea.

I think you have to make a distinction in Nashville as you do in most cities. Unlike inner city Chicago, even the "low digit South" streets are safe in the morning and during the day. The only time they get really rough (and even then you pretty much have to overstep your bounds) is late at night. I admit some of the area becomes sketchy around 2 - 3 in the morning, but it still isn't "get double murdered" sketchy. But, then again, maybe he got murdered at 2-3 in the morning. :/

Like some others have said, she points out once you get south of Broadway the whole character of the area changes. The rumor going around Nashville is that she was a 20-year-old Asian woman.

Steve was a pretty cool guy, even if he was a playa. I grew up in Mississippi, not far from where he did. Back when he was in college, my mom met him in McDonald's one night, and got his autograph.

That is the first thing that came to mind when I heard of the "double" killing. They are saying his wife was in Mississippi right now too. Steve was a FANTASTIC player. As a Titan fan, I looked forward to watching him ever week. Through all of the injuries, he ALWAYS showed up. I think he has a chance to make it to Canton someday.. hopefully someday SOON. just heard on the local news here that McNair had keys to the apartment in question, but his real home was in the Green Hills area of Nashville - they tried to just say it was because he had a DUI before, so a friend gave him access to the apartment in case he ever wanted to crash after a night out

aka - some guy let Steve McNair use the place to bang girls - my guess is he brought the wrong girl back there, and by the wrong girl, I mean a girl who had a BF/husband who didn't take kindly to her going to McNair's little getaway spot

Hamblin, for those of you who don't know him, is a black man who really looks down his nose at the athlete-worship which pervades black culture; he really hates it when someone calls his show and wants to talk about sports.

So someone called up and wanted to know what he thought about the death of Walter Payton, he did not hesitate to reply:

"Yeah? Well, too bad it wasn't O.J. Simpson!"

I really loved that line, so apt today.

nuclear_asshat 2009-07-04 08:26:59 PM
Steve McNair's gift was letting the sports world know that there is NFL quality talent outside of the NCAA Top 25. Unfortunately if you are a late bloomer and aren't recruited by your junior year of college, you get stuck at smaller schools where your talent may never be respected.

I've not read the whole thread, but I am guessing the leading theories are as follows:

1. Robbery/Stalking. Someone found out he was banging this biatch and waited to see his car before jacking him.

2. An ex-boyfriend of his current girlfriend.

3. His ex-wife.

I hear even the players who keep their lives clean run into guys looking to jack them for money or street credibility.

I *think* the wife had to know what was going on - it was reported that she said she hadn't heard from him in two days. Also, it sounds like McNair and the girl were out on the town together a lot, and this town isn't very big.

Although, he did register the GF's car at the address of his restaurant, so maybe he had kept it on the DL.

Looks like murder-suicide. Never mess with another man's rhubarb...

Former Tennessee Titans quarterback Steve McNair was killed in an apparent murder-suicide with a young woman he met at a local restaurant and have been dating for at least a few months.

McNair, the hometown hero who did extensive charity work in Nashville, died of several gunshots and was found on the sofa, police said. Sahel Kazemi, 20, was found alongside him in a Second Avenue condo he rented. She had a single gunshot wound to her head; a pistol was found near her body.

Metro police spokesman Don Aaron said they were leaning toward certain scenarios based on the evidence, but they hadn't ruled anything out. Still, they were not actively looking for suspects Saturday night.

"The medical examiner will be conducting autopsies (Sunday)," Aaron said. "We expect to make additional conclusions after the autopsy process."

Though much of the attention was on the Second Avenue crime scene, police also swarmed at the Cherry Creek apartment complex in Hermitage. They were questioning neighbors who said they often saw McNair visiting Kazemi. Sometimes, neighbors said, she would arrive home in a limousine in the early morning hours. She showed up with a new black car she said was a gift from her boyfriend.

She was arrested in that car, a black Cadillac Escalade registered to she and McNair, just two days before the deaths. She was charged with driving under the influence and refusing to take a breath test.

Keith Norfleet, Kazemi's boyfriend for four years before they broke up five months ago, said he came to pick up the car for Kazemi.

Norfleet said McNair was in the car with her when the stop occurred, a fact that was not in the police affadavit but was confirmed by police Saturday night. McNair later bailed Kazemi out, according to bail bondsmen.

Norfleet said she told him she was seeing McNair, who she met while working as a waitress at Dave & Busters. He was worried about her dating a married man and hopeful they'd get back together. They had been living together for four years, since they moved from her family's home in Jacksonville, Fla., to Nashville.

Dude, that's Donovon McNabb.
McNair was a QB for the Titans, and more recently, for the Baltimore Ravens.

I'm a huge St. Louis Rams fan.

The one thing that sucked about us winning the Super Bowl was that McNair had to lose. He really did a spectacular job in that game.

More McNairs; fewer Vicks.

He was a ballsy-ass QB and a tough, great player. I really enjoyed watching him.

Explain to me how any player who is on the injury report virtually every week is "tough"?

McNair was a good QB, but this notion of "toughness" because he played through injuries is ridiculous. Tough isn't being on the injury report week after week, toughness is not being on it in the first place.

OIC where you are going with this: BRETT FAVRE IS THE TOUGHEST EVAR1!1
Toughness has absolutely nothing to with getting injured. Poor physical conditioning, bad luck, wrong place at the wrong time, all come into play. Toughness has everything to do with playing through pain. Also, injury reports to some teams are a complete joke, see Patriots and Tom Brady. To sum this up McNair was a warrior and you are an idiot.

It's only going to accelerate from here. Just like we had a baby boom, we're going to have a death boom. Also, the number of celebrities has increased exponentially since the baby boomers came of age, so that will only multiply the effect.

Expect to see obituary websites spring up, catering exclusively to the morbid topic of celebrity deaths.

Air Head McNair gave it all up for a 20 year old sex machine....

when will Americans stop worshipping these ball players?? (and other Pro sports jockheads too)

paid millions to run up and down a football field like some chimp.

they are both guilty. he for running around with a kid, and she for obvious reasons. on the running around part, she is actually doing what most young adults do --sow her wild oats. He should have parked that big ole' Schlong up a long time ago and grown up.

if you have a need to look up to someone, find someone who actually accomplishes something worthwhile.

later, McNair. I bet you wish you had it to do all over again....

ESPN realizes that image is everything so they'll white wash it as best they can, which means they won't say much about it.

when will Americans stop worshipping these ball players?? (and other Pro sports jockheads too)

paid millions to run up and down a football field like some chimp.

they are both guilty. he for running around with a kid, and she for obvious reasons. on the running around part, she is actually doing what most young adults do --sow her wild oats. He should have parked that big ole' Schlong up a long time ago and grown up.

if you have a need to look up to someone, find someone who actually accomplishes something worthwhile.

later, McNair. I bet you wish you had it to do all over again....

i was attempting to point out the age gap and that a 36 year old man with a wife and 4 kids should find something better to do with his time than chase 20 year old love goddesses around.

he did that when younger and should have gotten it out of his system, but with all that money and time on his hands, he just couldn't resist that sweet, young, 20 year old snatch.

and that is a shame because having a real Family is much more satisfying than blowing your load for the umpteenth time into a 20 year old kid.

its called growing up and Airhead McaNair never did and he paid an unfair price for it.

ok, you made your point. but its just that i feel so strongly about this Country's Value system and how so many, especially young, people worship someone who can run/throw a football up and down a field.

Football is a game/entertainment and never will be otherwise. its an escape from the hum drum of life. i'm not against that, but just keep the perspective and realize that folks whe REALLY make a difference in the World are often unnoticed and often ignored. and that is too bad, but, after all, its all about making a buck and keeping that Pro Sports Money Machine humming along............

why so little news lately on the Foodball God Airhead McNair??

methinks the Sports Money Machine folks are doing their best to whitewash it and hope the public quickly forgets. then they can pick another sports God to focus on.

medius [TotalFark] 2009-07-07 07:57:52 PM
The media gladly eats the wounded and fallen.

I don't think McNair was quite in the God category either. He was more one of those "oh yeah, he's pretty good" guys for most fans.[citation needed]
