One of these does not compute.

I thought he was for Alice in Wonderland. Oh wait, thats the Mad Hatter he's playing.....creepy.

I think Depp is on a crusade to see just how outrageous a role he can land before people stop taking him seriously as an actor.

But, because he is Johnny Depp, I don't think there is a role outrageous enough to defeat his acting ability or credibility.

Nurglitch 2009-07-04 07:11:47 PM
Alice in Wonderland itself is all kinds of farked up. It was written for a little girl that modeled for Lewis Carroll. Look it up.

I agree with you. The guy has skills. Its better than watching most of the actors these days who keep taking the same type of roles over and over and over again. For some reason, this also popped into my head...

Acting is pretending, kids can do it.
Don't fool yourself, it's the biggest joke in the world
and it's on YOU, Joe Shmoe!

I can't believe Depp would accept the role of Willy Wonka.
There was no way it wasn't going to suck in the wake of the original
and it DID suck, it really did.

Will not see Public Enemies cuz it looks like suck
just like the suckage of Pirates

I thought Orlando Bloom was the girl in Pirates. Or was he the girl in Lord of the Rings?

Johnny Depp gets away with being so outrageous because, honestly, he doesn't really care what people think of him as a "serious" actor. He's just having fun. You can usually tell when an actor's having fun being an actor; Hugh Jackman springs to mind as well.

If he is looking for a mindfark role he should co-star in a movie with Hillary Swank in her tough or andrygous mode. Confusion would abound.

John Buck 41: RadicalMiddle: He was brilliant as Hunter S. Thompson. He had Gonzo perfectly worked out.

Bill Murray in Where The Buffalo Roam FTW. He eclipsed Depp.

. . .

1. He didn't eclipse him, he came first.

2. He was NO WHERE CLOSE to as good as Depp.

Where the Buffalo Roam is an okay movie, but it's flawed and only entertaining because it's Thompson pastiche. Fear and Loathing is real Thompson and Depp has it down to a science. Thompson himself said they nailed it in Fear and Loathing. He and Depp were great friends for the rest of Thompson's life (Murray was his friend to, just not as close as Depp).

The Colonel (Depp) is one of the best actors out there, and anyone who says otherwise is either the type of person who hates everyone popular or doesn't like Depp because he doesn't only take "High Brow" roles. Being in a trilogy of Disney action movies of questionable quality does not make you a bad actor, no more than Ben Kingsley being in Blood Rayne makes him a bad actor.

I found the 21 Jump Street episode on youtube, and yeah.

Depp made a hot, and extremely convincing girl. Probably because he didn't have a mustache, and he kept his mouth shut.

Guy's voice is kinda deep to play a real girl, though. Unless we're talking about a mute.

I thought it was some kind of song... I can kinda agree with him that the old Wonka was better, but that's a lot of opinion and nostalgia. However, Johnny Depp is an amazing actor. He can and has played every role I've ever seen him in spot the fark on. I'll be seeing Public Enemies as soon as I get the funding to...
