Not cool. There are thirsty children in China that would cut out their own eyeballs with spoons for that milkshake.

It's somewhat comforting to know what women are such bad drivers that even other women want to beat the crap out of them for doing stupid sh*t on the road.

She yanked her out of the passenger seat. So not only did the husband sit there and watch his wife get biatch slapped, but it was his fault in the first place.

There is no such thing as 'road rage', its simply a matter of people getting the beatings they deserve. On the other hand, that fellow who grabbed the womans dog and threw it out in traffic was a prick. Unless the dog was driving there was no need for that.

According to TFA:Huelsman allegedly threw a milk shake into the family's vehicle and then pulled the front passenger

The crazy chick pulled the front passenger out - and what is up with the guy who sits by and watches that happen?

You can be charged with breach of peace if your 19 year old daughter beats someone up?

I've wanted to do this many times. Maybe not throw a milkshake, but ramming someone who cuts me off and then beating the crap out of them. That sounds nice. It's a solution to a problem, but instead I'll continue to flip them off and scream obscenities and then cut them off.

Who needs logic?

No, it's the New York of Connecticut, is all. There's some trashy people in my old stomping grounds, but it's not unlike any other city, or even any small town. Random idiots occur everywhere, there's just more of them where there are more people. These aren't the people who run Yale or make the pizza.

We don't know that it's the husband's fault, or if it is, how much his fault it is. Subby made up the "cut off" part, there are no details in TFA. If we assume there was some actual reason she was the target, rather than the driver (very likely), then we can guess.
For example, one scenario could be that the husband cut off the 19 year old, who then honked, which caused the wife to stick her hand out the window and flick her off, which led to the ramming and beat down.

It's possible the wife getting beat up was totally irrational, but I wouldn't bet on it.

THIS!! I read that, then read the article again and can only assume that either the reporter left out something important or the police know the woman taken to the hospital and it is one of those 'police reports'... AKA the other woman started it and got her ass handed to her.

Have you ever met a man who hit a woman, even in self defense? I've known two. Both got screwed over despite ample evidence, eye-witnesses, etc. showing that they were not remotely at fault and were defending themselves from psycho biatches. The women barely got anything.

Aaaah, the voice of reason. He's probably still a dick though.

I had a car push in front of me in downtown traffic after thinking they could go faster in the other lane (I do let people in in traffic but not if they try shenanigans like that), and I gave the guy the finger and his wife turned around and we all had a big fight from the safety of our cars, and she was definitely the more aggressive. Didn't smack her though. They coulda been ninjas.

I prefer to let my girlfriends fight their own battles. I wouldn't want to suggest in any way that I was intervening because I thought they were weak and needed a man to solve their problems. Besides, if I jumped in, I might spill my popcorn.

Fluffy_the_cactus 2009-07-04 12:14:23 PM
If some lady his my wife, I wouldn't step in and physically fight the other woman. My wife can handle herself and I'm not going to jail for hitting a woman. Period.

Call me whatever you want, but I'm not going to do ANYTHING physically violent to a woman UNLESS she has a weapon and is threatening to kill either myself or a member of my family.

jbrooks544 2009-07-04 12:14:48 PM
Huelsman was charged with operating a motor vehicle with the intent to harass, second-degree reckless endangerment, two counts of risk of injury to a minor, breach of peace, third-degree assault and operating without a license.

Sounds about right.

Pretty hard way to learn that you are an adult now, and you just can't go around hitting people without incurring very serious consequences. Too bad she didn't learn it younger.

I'm guessing the whole thing happened so fast that the husband didn't have time to prevent his wife being injured. Also, he had to be sure to protect the children.

First of all, "hate" is a perfectly normal verb (as has been demonstrated).

Second, exactly how long do you think it takes to get in several significant blows? And how long for a person to get out of a seatbelt, out of a car, and around to the other side? Just because hubby wasn't able to teleport instantly to help his wife doesn't mean he didn't intervene as soon as he could reach the scuffle.

Except in rape cases, mind you. But with regards to every other violent crime, yes the legal system is still prone to viewing women as helpless victims when the other party involved is a man.

I have to agree with the earlier posts about keeping a dad away from any catfight. I sure my hubby could easily handle any woman trying to get the better of me, but one mark on her from him and he goes away. Marks from me, and the cops drag her off. And someone has to keep the kids out of the fray. Given the right circumstances, I would use my kids as weapons. Short, wiry, and always aim straight for the crotch.

True, we won't know how long it took hubby to unbuckle and come to the aid of his wife. However, as a general principle, there's no way I'd let some little wench attack my wife. It's a husband's job to protect his wife, and I wouldn't even feel like a man if I let something like that happen.

The risk of going to prison is an excuse for letting some piece of crap beat up your wife? I don't think so!

I never drive with my car unlocked. Sunroof open, windows up. Feels good and keeps the lower castes out of my vehicle.

I hit a woman once. Old neighborhood. Was in the yard with my daughter and one of the local drug dealers drives up to do a mobile deal. I ask the woman to take that crap elsewhere. She gives me a look like I was speaking Mandarin. I send my daughter in. "Uhm, Alice, I said move it, take it elsewhere" followed by my usual string of not so nice words. She gives me the bird. Nice, she's been caught selling out of her car twice already. Then it hits me...she'll get caught again, someone will feel bad for her and let her go. Weed? I don't care. Crack...no.

I walk around to her door and lean in...."Alice, take this sh*t elsewhere, I'm not f*cking around". She just looks...so I pulled her out of the car and slapped her. Then I went off on another tirade (I have anger issues). Cops then roll up and the male cop asks what's going on. I explain and told him that I was just escorting her out of my neighborhood since kids are playing here and she doesn't live nor belong here. She has no clue WTF is going on. Cop asks her what she was doing parked there then asks to search...right on the seat is a ziplock with some what could have been crack.

Cop put her in the back of his car and the female officer told me that it wasn't ok to hit people. :P Woops, I said "ask her if she wants to press charges". She said no, I got a lecture from the other cop - "what if she had a gun?". Haven't seen her since.

Last time Halley's comet came around, I was passenger in a small pickup with friends in the back returning from camping out when we had a freak accident. We were driving back from Joshua Tree NM in the left lane of a two lane road doing the speed limit when a small pickup truck ahead of us meanders onto the road, and then just as we were about to pass, makes a U turn from the right hand lane across us.

We hit that pickup and I still remember the slow-motion of that pickup's rear view shattering and falling down. We came to a stop and then about 30 seconds later, we get hit. What? This road is empty.

Turns out the pickup that was making a U turn had completed the turn and more and had rammed us in the rear. Well, that's where my friends were.

Without thinking, I jumped out of the passenger seat and raced back to the truck that had just rammed us to stop them from going postal all over us. I have no idea what I would have done, I'm pretty much a farking coward 98% of the time.

So what had happened is I found a woman driving the first pickup. She was clearly drunk and stoned off her ass, and I don't even think she realized she had been hit by us or that she had driven full circle to hit us. And of course she was completely uninjured and as I recall, just drove away.

Our little 1/4 ton pickup was totaled and that was the day I found you could stuff the entire contents of a 1/4 ton pickup complete with a weekend of camping supplies into the trunk of a cadillac and never even notice it.

Yeah all those people who find the idea of someone assaulting their wife deeply repugnant are just a bunch of ITG's. A real tough guy would have helped her beat his wife since she got our of the car without his permission.

I think the husband was hosed no matter what he did - his best course of action seems to be to "stay with the car".

Let's say he had got out of the car. He would have had to:

1) Unbuckle his seat belt (if he was wearing one).
2) Shut off the car (can't see him remembering this - failure to operate a motor vehicle safely?).
3) Get out of the car (will he lock the doors?).
4) Go around to the other side of the car (abandoning the kids?).
5) Then somehow getting a hold of the other woman and stopping the fight (all sorts of issues here).

Even if he had done all of this, and risked going to jail on any number of other charges relating to abandoning his kids in a running/non-running vehicle in the middle of traffic, coupled with violence against the female (which we know men rarely get a pass on) - in the time it would've taken, his wife would still have been beaten up (maybe only two punches instead of three), and now he would likely be in jail (charges filed by the cops) for abandoning the children in a vehicle.

You and I both know that's how it likely would've played.

I can't even think of a way the guy could've stopped anything without him getting charges of some sort against him, if not jail time. Even if he had a gun with him, and fired a shot in the air (even perfectly straight up to prevent a ballistic arc...as if that is even possible for a human to do), while the fight would've stopped damn quick, the wife would still likely have injuries, and he would have a "discharge of a firearm inside city limits" charge against him (and possible jail time).

The husband likely feels awful; he was impotent at a time when his wife needed him most, he was hamstrung by laws preventing him from doing anything, and now he has to live with the humiliation of knowing this. Everyone else gets to rag on him for doing nothing. These people, as well as the cretins who began fighting, seem to not be able to think much past the present.

Anything the husband could've done would have likely left his family poorer for it (his jail time, his charges, any fines, him not working and/or possibly being fired), and the wife still would've been beaten. He made the "right" choice in staying with the kids, but I bet he felt awful doing it...

A breach of the peace was a common-law offense, but is presently governed by statute in many states. It is frequently defined as constituting a form of Disorderly Conduct. Examples include using abusive or obscene language in a public place, resisting a lawful arrest, and trespassing or damaging property when accompanied by violence.

Sounds like that 19-year old's mother might have been running her mouth off and probably tried to interfer with her daughter's arrest. I wouldn't be surprised to her that she encouraged her daughter to beat the passenger as well. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

cr0sh,

I'm well aware of the bias against men in the legal system, but I think you're going overboard. In reality, if he had used proportionate force to protect his wife, it's unlikely that the onus would have been put on him. Remember, he would have been protecting his wife, a woman, from assault.

Normally I'd agree with you but we don't live in the land of sanity anymore when it comes to "law enforcement" with regards to violence against various protected classes. We just don't. What is proportionate force? Will the cops agree if he hits her right to stop the fight and she gets a nice shiner and some cuts from eating asphalt? What if the cop is the chivalrious type or a feminist type of person? It is a total crap shoot IMHO these days such that I have a real hard time judging any man in these situations.

I'd also expect that if he'd hit the wench and broke her nose he'd be getting sued for the plastic surgery (and a boob job) to fix it.

Semi-Sane 2009-07-04 02:52:10 PM
What a bunch of wimps. If your wife is getting beat up you should intervene. The chance of getting sent to prison while fending off an attacker is remote, unless you beat the tar out of her. You don't have to start throwing punches at the attacker, just hold her down until she cools down or the police arrive.

Even in the worst case scenario you'll have to spend a few hours in the local police station.

Spielman 2009-07-04 02:57:17 PM

Best thing to do is stay in the car and call the cops. You just never know how these things will escalate.

A few years ago, I was on my way to a substitute teaching assignment at a middle school. I'm on the freeway, just a hair under the speed limit, when some guy comes whizzing past me on the right, damn near taking my front fender off. He then slows down to a crawl ahead of me. I don't want to be late to work, so at the first opportunity, I pass him on the left, giving him a wide berth. Then he does it again. Fine, I'll just slow down even more and let this dickward get well ahead of me.

All is fine until I get off at my exit and there he is, off to the side of the road. I pass, still giving him a wide berth, and he does it again! Great. I slow up even more, but in three blocks, there is a red light and I have to stop behind him. I stop at least half a car length behid him. I see he has kids in the car. Then he gets out and starts walking back toward me, yelling, "Get outta the farking car!" It's winter, so the windows are up and I just check to make all the doors are locked. He stands there yelling for a minute or so, and then I point to the light which is now green. He spews some more invective and walks back to his car, kicking out a reflector on my car as he goes, gets into his car and leaves.

I make sure to give him a two block lead, but then spot him drpping off kids at the school to which I am heading. Just farking great. He leaves before I get a block from him. I check in, go to my assignment and as the kids come in, one is telling his friend, "Hey my dad almost kicked some old guy's ass for cutting hm off this morning." Fun. Fortunately, the kid couldn't see me from thre car at the time.

Now, at the time, I was 55, about ten years older than this asshole of a dad, and I was bigger than he. Maybe I could have taken him, maybe not. Either way, I would have probably missed work, had medical bills, had police involvement and more damage to my car. He could have had a knife or wrench on him. Had he tried to break out a window to get at me, I had a business driveway that I could have turned into to get away. Macho posturing gets one no where. Using your head does.

Thank you, Semi-sane. Yes, we do live in insane times (created mainly by how the average Farker votes and behaves), but you're a bit paranoid if you think that there's a reasonable chance that you'd be prosecuted in such a situation. Moreover, it doesn't matter. You DEFEND your wife and let the chips fall where they may.

Let's say that in such a situation, the wench throws your wife down, your wife hits her head on the pavement, has a brain hemorrhage and dies. Would you say, "Well, yeah, my wife is dead and my children are motherless, but at least I didn't spend time in the pokey"?

The above scenario is about as likely as the nightmare legal-entanglement possibility some of you have outlined.

Not likely to be ruled by that fear, the fear of her being psycho crazy or fear if she was a large rugby sized bruiser. Necessary force, perhaps a tad bit more, would be applied to end the confrontation.

That was a nice waste of a lot of bits and bytes. Your situation was not at all analogous to this one. No one here is proposing that you have to take some idiot on simply because he throws down the gauntlet. They're saying that you have an obligation to defend your wife.

In your situation, there was no risk involved in not taking violent action. In this situation, there was great risk -to the man's wife.

I came here to mutter about the husband's lack of response. If I was in his place, I would have done everything I could to stop it happening.

Difficulties I can imagine:
1) Center lane of possibly busy street - getting hit by cross traffic would just be tragic.
2) Car accident with Children - How young? If there is an infant, you have to check them out yourself. If the child is older, they should be able to tell you how they are, but it might be skewed.

"Sorry kids, daddy has to stop the woman beating up mommy." seems like a ready solution to most of those, though.

I have no idea what value the flying shake is to this, or how the woman managed to get pulled from her vehicle. (One would imagine that would take some doing)

i dont really have a related road rage incident, but if it had been me as the husband, knowing about the justice system, i would have tried my best to stop the fight without throwing punches, i dunno, maybe use myself as a shield for my wife or something. maybe be arms outstretched so that witnesses can see i didnt punch the scrawny twat or anything. you dont have to throw down just to defend your wife, you can at least attempt to do it without more needless violence.

i noticed a few things about the husband not getting out due to his door being pinned or whatever, just wanted to throw out the fact that unless you are in a wide-ass H1 hummer or something with a racing harness, it isnt all that hard to unbuckle quickly and go out the passenger side.

as far as traffic goes, honestly, i have driven in america long enough to know that if there are two cars stopped in traffic with a fight going on, people will stop and watch, and go a snails pace around them. come on, rubbernecking is the second most practiced driving activity next to using the phone. there was significantly less risk of any of the parties involved being smoked by some asshole not paying attention.

castufari: I never drive with my car unlocked.

You should never, EVER hit a woman.

But that, sir, was no woman. She was a pariah and a butt on the boil of society. In my book, you had every right to keep your pimp hand strong.

People like her deserve a foot up the ass. And drunk drivers deserve to get dragged out of their cars and get the shiat beat out of them when they cause a devastating crash and survive.

My sister didn't think so because her "precious snowflake" of a son got pulled out of his car when he crashed into someone's HOUSE and got beat up by said house's owner. "He didn't hurt anybody!" she said..."But he damaged the corner of the foundation to the basement, two more inches and it might've!" I replied..."That, and your perspective changes when YOU have someone in your family get rear-ended and killed by a drunk driving illegal alien, and he runs away from the scene for three hours!" (Sister is actually on my mom's side, the crash victim was on my dad's side)

That shut my sister up.

/I'm not condoning vigilante violence. But you don't hear me condemning it, either!

I am sure that he barely noticed what was happening outside of the car due to concern for the kids. I would kick my husband's ass to no end if he came to help me while the kids were injured. Adults can handle their own problems. Especially one-on-one with a 19 year old. Stop with the internet tough guy already, it doesn't apply in this case.

What are you talking about? A 19-year-old gal can be far more formidable than an older woman. What do you think we're talking about, a 12-year-old?

But with the way you talk about kicking your "husband's ***," it probably would be a good idea if he let some psycho wench give you a beat down.

How do I find a woman like you, by the way? Drag a $50 bill through a trailer park?

At least somebody finally starts to get it. Drag the passengers from the vehicle & kill them while the driver watches.

As you remove the bloody hammer from the remains of the shattered face & skull, look at the driver & say "You made this happen..."

/can you tell it's tourist season here?

Well that husband just load and clear told his wife that she cannot count on him for support. He should have locked the car to keep the children safe and then laid into the woman. If it were the other way around the woman should help the husband.

Miss Smartass: Lusiphur: ppfftt...If the husband had so much as given that woman a mean look, he would have been in prison for life. Men can't hit women. It will never ever end in their favor in the justice system. Ever.

Why?

So he lets his wife get bashed. That is a pathetic excuse for not helping those you are supposed to love and if you use it if your woman is ever being bashed I hope she takes you for everything you have and everything you will ever have. If it is your loved ones you help.

End of farking story.

EggFool: I like you. "lightweight MySpace slut" is a wonderful new way to describe a 19 year old having a tantrum.

Did you see her pic? She looks like she weighs all of 120 pounds! I can't believe she beat someone up!

Like to see some girl try that with my wife. I had to stop her from beating up a biker once.
Road rage is stupid and it could go wrong for the aggresser. In Norway a trucker went after a car/driver with a sledge hammer. The news report ended by mentioning the agressive trucker got taken to the hospital.

Moral: If you brandish a sledgehammer, be prepared to use it. And not just on the other guy's car.

Bagelox-99 Why get so mad as too kill a person over their bad inconsiderate driving. It will only cause grief to everyone involved.
I have a little sympathy for the husband. That sort of thing happens so fast it's hard to reacte correctly.
