Alien Robot: Bacon is not Your Buttie: (Note - there's nothing wrong with spending 6 years to get a degree or hiring someone else to do your job for you, they just aren't marks of an ambitious person.)

Bill Gates, Michael Dell, and Dean Kamen still haven't finished the degrees they started. They must not be very ambitious persons.

Did I miss the part where, during her college education, Palin set up a corporation or was engaged in business of any kind?

Maybe she killed someone.

If that is true, then how on earth could she possibly have imagined that this would not eventually be revealed?

Because that's the way things are done in Alaska.

Much of the corruption we uncovered over the last several years involved magical investment opportunities that return 1600% in a year's time... New first floor for Ted's house.... Federal land buyouts... Reduced pricing on prime real estate... etc.

They've been very successful until the last year or two.

I have a Specials comment for Ms. Sarah.

Small town corruption or oil-state shenanigans, do you think?

You know, I'd forgotten how much The Specials put out. Don't know if I'm feeling old or young right now.

They're not exactly mutually exclusive.

True. I was just thinking (wondering) in terms of how endemic/structural corrpution is to the Alaskan economy.

The oil-state *is* a small town, for all intents...

But no, if this is true, it's part of a larger pattern of corruption there, and it's not just a Wasilly thing.

All the biggest corruption evidence happened with real estate investments/transactions/improvements. Some were so well-done, they couldn't be indicted, but we knew damned well what had happened -- we just couldn't prove quid pro quo.

My favorite is still Ted's magical investment. J&L properties buys and develops real estate in Alaska. They agreed to build a new headquarters for the Arctic Slope Regional Corporation (ASRC).

ASRC has over 10 billion in assets. No company of that size leases a building for 20 years -- you buy your own and capitalize on the equity. Instead, for some odd reason, ASRC did exactly that -- they leased the building for 20 years, turning it into a HUGE profit for J&L, and a trickling loss for ASRC.

Now the fun part.

J&L let Ted buy into that project for $50K. About a year later, they bought out his investment (as ASRC had signed the lease and upped the on-paper value) for $800K.

Meanwhile, Ted gave J&L some very nice earmarks -- such as building the new housing at one of Anchorage's military bases.

And, pay attention -- the head of ASRC, which had foolishly rented the building, pumping all of that money away while allowing J&L to keep the equity, had some land in the Arctic that had some military clutter on a couple of acres, left over from the cold war.

No toxins. Just construction waste on a few acres. Ted earmarked money to buy 160 acres of that worthless tundra for urban real estate prices, filling ASRC's chairman's pockets.

Ted got rich. J&L got rich. And ASRC chairman got rich. Nobody got busted. That's the Alaskan politician's dream.

It only makes sense to have a new job lined up before resigning from the old one.

I think it's classy the way Sarah is suffering and smiling.

Especially when it seems some liberals think that she should be seen and not heard.

Of course, we should expect ups and downs for La Sarah--

After all, we know that from the American public, love comes in spurts.

To play devils advocate: A year of image rehabilitation might be more important in the long run than a year of sitting still and letting national democrats paint her governance as a freak show.

The media has a short attention span anyway.

That's the ticket! A year off to just sit back and ask herself "Where is my mind".

Brilliant!

The fact that she called herself a "lame duck" with a year and a half left in her term does not bode well for for a person wanting to run for President.

She just ups and leaves like that? I'm not going to run for another term so I'll say good bye in the middle of this term.

Fark you Alaska - and thanks for your misplaced vote.

Northern Lights
While snowmobiling in Denali with Mark Sanford, Larry Craig, John Ensign, Bobby Jindal and the mysterious Sean Hannity, a freak blizzard strikes. After the storm the ragtag group find them lost in a weird snowy perdition where the Northern Lights are always glowing. They must learn to survive together while encountering a menacing threat of a seldom seen socialistic tribe. Why are they trying to steal Bristol's baby? What does the mysterious number 538 mean? This long story arcing series will pose more questions than will ever be answered.

Brilliant.

Thank you, from the bottom of my heart. I worked hard to create that post. I am glad someone appreciated it.

The thing is, Palin would have continued to get away with everything until she decided that she was ready for the big leagues of scoundrels. Then people started poking around at her deals, talking to different people, and really looking at the work she's done. She's not clever enough to be a star politician and she wasn't clever enough to realize that.

Yes, but fark it, how could she do it live?

Oh, I'd love to see this. I mean after her epic fail in the most softball political interviews ever and then her performance at the debate a Palin talk show would certainly be lol-worthy.

bronyaur1: kevalanb: lawboy87: FlashHarry: (Palin) shallow, arrogant and self-serving than previously thought - and would have zero credibility on any issue.

Downstais: As compared to Hannity, Olberman, Maddow, O'reilly, etc.?

Maddow graduated at age 20 from Stanford, earning a Rhodes Scholarship along the way and holds a PhD (DPhil) in PolySci from Oxford She's hardly the vacuous, incomprehensible, willfully ignorant type as is Palin. I'd say she has a hell of lot of credibility on matters of politics given her past record of success in the area.

Well-educated? Yeah, obviously. "Success in the area"? Wouldn't you have to either win an election (even a primary) or or run a successful campaign (even a primary) in order to have "success in the area" of politics?
This Palin move is very curious to me, but comparing the "success in the area" of politics of a talking head who happened to get an Oxford degree with someone who has won two elections, one statewide; is pretty silly.

... and, ladies and gentlemen, THIS is why the GOP is losing elections. It's full of dolts who think that winning two elections in a complete backwater is the intellectual equivalent to earning Stanford and Oxford degrees.

Keep it up, morons, and continue your slide into a minor regional party.

The issue was not "who's smarter?". David Gergen, Paul Begala, Pat Buchanan, and Donna Brazile, to name a few, are all qualified to talk about the nuts-and-bolts of elections, because they have all been involved in one. "Backwater" or not, she actually was involved in a successful statewide election, and was on the inside of an unsuccessful national election. Wouldn't it be interesting to hear the thoughts on what goes on in an election from someone who's actually been in one?

I'm sure that Rachel Maddow is a very smart woman, in fact, I'm sure of it. But if we are talking about politics and elections, I would value the opinions and experience of those who have actually run in one, had to knock doors, walk parade routes, and debate opposing candidates. All politics is local, right?

deadapostle: That imbecile can't speak when she has some of the best speech writers in America working for her, what makes anyone think that she can host a talk show? I wouldn't be surprised to see her on Maury Povich in one of those "Who's your daddy?" episodes, but otherwise, I just don't think it's in the cards.

I love how you guys pay $5 a month to care about who says what on a website.

Sarah Palin makes George Bush (either one) seem eloquent.
