FTA ""Every small town needs some sort of icon to be remembered by," Mr. Englot said. "I think we finally have ours.""

I've always loved those tourist trap things, and they work. I gotta admit I've always stopped and spent a few $ after pulling over to take the obligatory photo.
Australia has loads of them-

Montmartre. Is that near Dog River? Does it have its own little Mosque on the Prairie. In any event - congratulations.

vapid. Just like Paris of the Hiltons.

Nice job, Canucks. You took a fine French iron structure and a truly cheap, graceless imitation. Now plant a few dozen pink flamingos and put it in a trailer park to finish the effect.

I live in Saskatchewan, so getting a kick, etc..

Funny, I've heard Saskatoon be referred to as such, but not the likes of Montmarte.

When I read the bit about they'd based their plans off of pictures from the Intarwebs, I was hoping for a complete trainwreck. I was disappointed.

I still think they should have gone for Perogytown instead.

Why would ANYONE want to emulate Paris (France)?

/ BTW; I am interested in ALL things that didn't happen.

I have a lot of love for the people of Saskatchewan. Last year we were driving through on our way to Alberta and the axle on our RV broke. The lady whose house we stopped in front of invited us in for tea, and we had a nice chat with her while we waited for help. Then we had some time to kill in Moose Jaw while we waited for the axle to get fixed, so we headed downtown, and as we were starting to feed the meter the cops saw us (and the Illinois plates) and said, "Don't bother with that, just enjoy our town." How cool is that? Back at home, I got a ticket at a meter that was three minutes expired. I discovered the ticket all of two minutes later, when I went to re-feed the meter, and they wonder why people hate going downtown.

Wow, are you genuinely butthurt because we did something that might offend the French?

At a height of 8.5m and seeing how Saskatchewan is so flat, you should be able to see it from Dog River. Or from Mercy if you go to the southwest corner of the little mosque. And at night if they have it lit up you should be able to see it from Esterhazy or Biggar.

I keed. My cousin is a vet in Regina and she says the rest of the province is beautiful.

I drove through the province and it is beautiful. And flat. Very very flat. Miles and miles of miles and miles. Did I say it was flat?

Maybe they're emulating Las Vegas. They've had their own for a while now.
You'd think being the Montmartre of the Prairies would suffice.

simpsonfan 2009-07-04 09:16:13 PM
No, Paris is the Montmartres of France.

simpsonfan: No, Paris is the Montmartres of France.

well, to be fair, Montmartre, Saskatchewan isn't really the Montmartre of anywhere, as, in Saskatchewan, it's pronounced more like "mo-mart".

Its pronounced Mo-Mart!! and yeah, dog river is actually a town named Roleaux (ROLO.. like the candy) and yes they are fairly close together, about the distance from Moose Jaw to Regina

I'm originally from the Vag, but I stood on that milk crate, looked toward the rockies and saw the "Help Wanted" sign about 5 years ago. I have family in Rouleau that I'm pretty sure are the original Oscar and Emma.
