Now if you'll excuse me, it's time for my "freedom search".

It's multi-layered only in the sense that you have to juggle the refuse of humanity from many different circles. You've got your black rage and blue collar pessimism in the north. You've got your black rage and hillbilly yokelism in the south. And in the middle it's Amish people, OSU, and then more Amish. Baldwin would do well to preemptively commit suicide if he thinks governing Ohio would be a good idea.

Yeah, like Sudan - pirates, famine, rape gangs, corruption and religious nutjobs. Very dangerous, but probably a lot more interesting than Ohio.

Skimmed his bio, and it seems that his education consists of 3 years of poli-sci back in the 70s, and a degree in drama. He hasn't had any real jobs outside of the entertainment industry. What qualifies him to be the governor of a state? What's scary is that he has a shot at winning because he looks good on television and can read a script like he means it.

Or is he more representative of national-level polititians than I'm aware of? I saw something on TV about Brad Pitt running for mayor of New Orleans. Seriously, WTF? I haven't really kept up with the Governator, but is he doing a good job? Maybe mayors and governors don't need to do anything but look good and sound convincing.

Speaking of that degree in drama, shouldn't he be in France?

He would make a wonderful governor if the job requirement is the same as the requirement to be galactic president.

I guess I'm talking about both of them, really, and anyone else that runs for office on celebrity only. If you're going to be mayor of a big city, or governor of a state, shouldn't you have experience? Maybe state representative, city council, or the like. Hell, even something like police chief, sherrif, or district attourny.

Isn't one of the main benefits of living in a democracy that theoretically the only "barrier to entry" to politics is the vote?

If you want to go down the "requirements to run for office route", then you need to acknowledge that it's possible that if a list of requirements was established, that over time they might rise so high as to eliminate 99% of the electorate, which may possibly be a bad thing.

Not that I'm an Alec Baldwin supporter, but your day job shouldn't preclude you from running for office, nor should lack of public service history impede you from gaining... well, a public service history (catch-22 anyone?)

You are absolutely correct. But let's get REAL. The ONLY THREE reasons that this guy was contacted are...

1. He is a 110% Liberal Democrat
2. He is good looking
3. He can speak well

There is NO OTHER reason.

There are a lot of Obama connections here. The "lack of experience" argument was a GOP cornerstone in the last election. Now that the Dems know how to defeat that argument, those three reasons will be the ONLY requirements sought after.

The Dems just need to lay off Palin on that argument. Let her cut her own throat.

I should have been clearer. I'm not advocating legal requirements for running for office, I'm just saying that I'd prefer my candidates to have some idea of what they're doing. Also, if you think politicians are stupid, just think about some of Hollywood's finest. It worries me that candidates are often elected strictly because they have charisma. Maybe it works out sometimes, but it just seems kind of flimsy.

Don't need an education to run for office; you need a bank account.

State Congressman - $250,000
State Sentator - $500,000
Govenor - $2,000,000
US Congress - $1,500,000
US Senate - $2,500,000 ($1,000,000 in Illinois for vacant Senate seat)
President - $10,000,000
