FishingWithFredo: If you want the equivalent of Palin put on Obama, first when he announced his presidential run Obama:

1. Should have been given an immediate quiz on his feelings on Uzbekistan.

Naturally. Because this is the equivalent to such hard hitting topics as "What do you read?"

2. Had stories on how Sasha and Malia may not even be his kids -- in the mainstream media; not some obscure Freep-like site.

When was this ever in the mainstream media? And how is this any different than the constant accusations that he is a Kenyan Muslim?

3.Have stories on how Sasha and/or Malia are the class slut in their elementary school. And then do mainstream media stories on the kid in class who's banging Sasha.

Sarah Palin goes to great lengths to force her bizarre "abstinence only" beliefs into public policy. Her daughter ended up pregnant at 17.

4. Have endless stories on how unqualified Obama is because he's never run a business, a city, a state. Daily stories. Non-stop stories.

First, Obama did get a healthy dose of the "unqualified" treatment from the media. Second, Sarah Palin was governor of a state with a population on par with Columbus Ohio for not even two years before being tapped for VP. She wasn't experienced. At all.

5. Have his intelligence questioned endlessly for the times he sounded dumb when his teleprompter stopped working correctly. Or when he "uuhhhhed" his way through an interminable sentence.

There's a difference between being caught off-guard by technical difficulty and a complete and total ignorance of every aspect of the job you're campaigning for. Palin pretended in front of a national audience that she played a part of US-Russian relations every time Vladimir Putin "rears his head." I mean, that's what I think she was saying since she fell to pieces talking to Katie Couric. This is who the GOP wanted to lead them, somebody who couldn't maintain her composure while talking to a vapid network news anchor.

Then you'd be getting warm.

/Palin is toast
//Don't like Palin
///The media was unfair to her, her family, McCain and Hillary Clinton, because they had an agenda.
////Mission Accomplished!

Sarah Barracuda, the mavericky bulldog with lipstick wasn't tough enough to deal with the standard media treatment. Good thing she didn't get elected to anything important.

FishingWithFredo: detfrost1: Asking someone what farking magazines they read, and they can't even farking read one is a hit job!?

Palin had figured out that Couric wasn't there to do an impartial interview, and was there to play "Gotcha!" on behalf of the political party she works for.

Palin wasn't experienced enough, however, to just get up and walk out of the interview; instead she shut down, and it came off looking bad.

There was also selective editing of the interview to make her look more extreme and less informed.

Asking someone what the Bush Doctrine is, in her opinion, and she can't even bullshiat her way through that is a hit job!?

What the fark is the Bush Doctrine? Charles Krauthammer said it changed four times, and Charlie Gibson's reference wasn't the most up-to-date one. Krauthammer's only the one who invented the term and first discussed the Bush Doctrine, and is only about 1,052 times smarter than you or me.

It's sudden as in no one saw it coming. Neither her supporters or her detractors were dropping hints that 'something big' was on it's way concerning Palin. The rumor that there are Federal charges seems weak to me, as usually someone leaks this type of information to the press no matter how tight they try to keep a cover on it. But there hasn't been any creditable rumors floating around about a Palin Federal investigation. I am sure there have been some blogs about it, but there are nutcase blogs on both sides of the political aisle. No one with a good track record was saying anything was about to happen, so that's why it's 'sudden'.

Freepers don't think very much. You have to think "who benefits" and it isn't Obama, it's the Republican contenders for 2012, and the party brand as a whole since the people going down have been vocal morons. While these folks still had loud voices, it was going to be hard to get everyone other then the right-wing moron base to take the party seriously. They're not winning until they can bring the independents back. Palin and Sanford would drive them away.

I'm pretty sure they were referring to the baseless speculation that is the article linked. Nobody knows why she resigned and it was a shock to most people, so speculation is rampant. Those who support her knee-jerked into the "OMFG She's running in 2012" (myself included) and those who dislike her knee-jerked into the "OMFG SCANDAL!" corner. It was bound to happen.

As many have pointed out, this *could* be a bid for 2012 but that's fairly unlikely. This *could* be about a scandal, but that too is highly unlikely; resigning this soon before hand only draws attention to it, not help in burying it.

The most likely scenario is, as someone wiser than myself pointed out, that she's taking the Nixon route. She will sit out 2012 and instead work on other campaigns, do fund raisers for the party, travel around and collect some political favors while building contacts and getting the National Experience she truly needs to mount a successful campaign.

2016 is the far more likely date that we'll see Palin come out strong nationally imho. She's probably gambling correctly that Obama is going to be very hard to beat in 2012 so it's better to go below the radar and build strength, let other Republicans try to hammer Obama, and if, by chance, a Republican wins in 2016, she's young enough to make a viable shot at 2020 and beyond.

She's not done politically imho, but we won't be seeing much of her until shortly before Primaries where she'll just be a prominent keynote speaker for people.

Yeah, something must have happened. I read that she was talking to an AK legislator on Wed. about enacting some sort of abortion restriction and then 2 days later she announces she's quitting?

There are rumors about some fishy relationship w/a builder who may have built their house as well as a multi-million dollar sports complex in Wasilla when she was mayor, but they're just rumors right now.

It could just be that she's gearing up for the 2012 election. By leaving AK, she can concentrate on that & won't lose a day traveling to key states. However, that doesn't explain the hastily-called press conference that you watched, or why she's so obviously pissed.

But you have to love the wild animal noises in the background. :)

If the MSM, none of which have an army, navy, airforce, covert forces, intelligence service or secret police to direct campaigns against her or her state is capable of driving her from office, how is she supposed to stand up to Russia (I know, she can see it), China and all the other nations which might find it convenient to use all of the above services against her? Because that could include leaking bad or stupid things about her and her government to the MSM. And they already know that that hurts her feelings and makes her quit.

Honestly, I'm not trying to troll or anything. I respect your opinions, but your support of her I simply do not get. Yes, I can see she energises the base -- but I see that as a rather different point: supporting someone who is useful, rather than someone whose views coincide with your own.

Ah, thank you. Yes, I know rumors & speculation are flying right now and I'm pretty much in the "OMG SCANDAL" camp. It's just too odd to call a press conference about this so quickly that only a handful of journalists can actually make it. It also doesn't explain why she looks so pissed during it.

But if she does plan to fly under the radar as you suggest, that would be pretty interesting to see. I honestly don't think she can. Her supporters are too vocal and, quite frankly, I really don't think she's smart enough to keep her mouth shut for that long. And by quitting 2 years before her term is up, that leaves her with even LESS qualifications for president.

Again, should be interesting to see how this unfolds.

I don't like Palin, but I also don't like baseless rumors. IF there is something substantial to the scandal rumors then nothing has made it to semi-reputable news sources yet. Of course, MJ having died seems to have bumped almost everything else off of news services, so that may be part of the problem. But until there is some evidence to back up the claims, I won't believe them.

And she was largely the reason I voted against McCain, so I don't have any reason to support her.

If she just wanted out, she could have just resigned.

CanisNoir [TotalFark] 2009-07-04 11:35:12 AM
PartTimeBuddha: I find it so difficult to understand why you support her.

To say I *support her* I think goes a bit overboard; I was always a tad wary. I liked her during the campaign because I felt the duo of McCain\Palin was a good one; McCain was an experienced moderate while Palin was an inexperienced but passionate small government type who knew a whole lot about Energy. To me I felt she could learn the ropes at McCain's feet and come out strong in four to eight years with that type of experience; I wasn't in the camp that thought McCain would stroke out the moment his hand left the bible so I never feared her actually having to be President within four years.

After the campaign I became more of an interested party; I still like her small government, fiscally conservative ideal's and she does know a shait ton about energy and environmental conservation. However, I liked her as second bannanna but still felt she lacked experience on National Issues.

So, I don't support her as much as see tremendous potential in her; it's up to her to live up to that :)

brigid_fitch: And by quitting 2 years before her term is up, that leaves her with even LESS qualifications for president.

I think Obama put the whole "Executive Experience" argument to rest; there's no way that could hit her without a boomerang effect coming back to slam the Dem who used it.

Americans have short memories and if she can go on to do great "background" things, I think quitting 2 years early is easily spinnable, especially in a few years when peoples memories are more faded and they are more susceptible to the "old news is boring" syndrome.

She did resign. She didn't use those exact words, but she said she was turning over her power to her lieutenant governor. She didn't say she was doing it temporarily, or that she would be back or anything, so that's a resignation if I ever heard one.

CanisNoir: PartTimeBuddha: I find it so difficult to understand why you support her.

Of course you think its spinnable, you'll be spinning it as the single greatest move of her life for years to come most likely, regardless of the outcome.
