You provided a rationale that could explain why Palin may have been justified in responding "all of them". It was a dumb rationale, but a rationale. That's a defense of her comment, even if you're acknowledging that it's a dumb defense from the get-go. Mitigation, rather than outright contradiction.

Pretty sure I'm not that far off-base to see that as defending her comment. Maybe you didn't intend it to be one, but as written, it certainly reads like one.

Can't get that out of your head, eh?

SpyVsSpy 2009-07-04 05:01:46 AM
And the point you're missing, anyway, is nobody in the Obama-fellating media would have even considered asking him such a question.

No, that's wrong. He got asked--like every single politician ever--TONS of silly little warm-up questions (what do you read? what's your favorite team?)...

...the difference is he didn't answer them in the defensive, clueless manner Palin did.

Get it? It's only an issue because of the way she non-answered it. She made it a story by answering it in a dumb way.

For instance, O'reilly asked Obama plenty of tough questions--Obama just didn't CHOKE in a mockable way like Palin did. He didn't sit there and spew out A Paragraph To Nowhere or blink and wink like a doofus. If he had, it would have been a story. He didn't; so it wasn't.

PALIN made those things stories--not the so-called "gotcha" press.

poor, poor Sarah. Honey the world been treatin' you bad? That mean old MSM still talking bad about you? Maybe you guys just got off on the wrong foot. The first thing I recall is you giving a speech after the announcement of your selection for VP on McCain's ticket.

You kept going on about turning down the "Bridge to Nowhere" when it was already widely known that you had wanted the bridge and kept the money any way. But yet you continued to lie. I think this is where it all started. Then came the news out of Alaska of the ethics investigations. Seems you had fired a man for not firing your brother in law who was in a custody battle with your sister.
At first you denied having anything to do with it. That your office would be completely transparent about it.
Then came the audio tapes of the recorded phone calls.
Then Todd's emails etc. Suddenly it's time to batten down the hatches. Pull out the old tried and true executive privilege excuse for refusing to work with the investigators.
Suddenly the lawyers from the RNC,McCain Campaign and even James Dobson descend on Alaska to cover this up and try to squash it.

This is probably where it went from bad to worse. Then we had the Couric interview. Then you went and hid for a while.

then there was the convention, the divisive rhetoric from you. you really are a divisive speaker. those who believe as you do are the only "real Americans"

that tends to put people off.

but yeah blame it on the media. it always works with the base.

PartTimeBuddha: rynthetyn: /teaching foreign relations majors during the US elections was quite the experience
//Especially foreign relations majors in Vietnam when John POW McCain was running

I am interested in your experiences. I don't suppose you happen to have a newsletter?

I do in fact have a newsletter, of which I need to stop putting off writing my final edition. :)

I think the craziest moment during the election was when one of my students decided to argue in class that she liked John McCain better than Barack Obama because John McCain was a war hero who had stood up under torture. While I was trying to pick myself up off the floor, the rest of the class was sitting there snickering. That was also the girl who admired Sarah Palin for her ability to be in high office and regain her figure so soon after giving birth.

I tried not to show my disdain for Palin though, because in teaching a class that was 95% female, all aspiring to go into politics or government service in a country with very few female role models, Palin (well, until her meltdown, anyway), represented a role model that it was possible for a woman to be successful in their chosen field and still have a family and children. That's what pisses me off with Palin, she had the potential to be a great role model to young women around the world, and she screwed it up by being such a moron.

We also had John McCain pay a visit to the university, it was pretty surreal to stand there watching a leader from your home country getting questioned, on foreign soil, about human rights abuses committed by your government at Gitmo. It's especially surreal when the leader in question was tortured in that same country.

Then there was the time that a student decided that there wasn't enough debate in class and started arguing that suicide bombing was an effective military strategy for the Palestinians because Vietnam had used it successfully against American troops, thus appalling the other 99% of the class that had all already concluded that suicide bombing was never morally acceptable.

I have a facebook friend who does little else but promote her holistic complimentary therapy business. I hide her posts.

But if this friend is disrespectfully giving your page grief, I guess just adopt troll tactics and ignore her/don't engage online. Or just -- once -- ask her to stop because it's really not how you want to be perceived. You can do this all friendly-like.

Yeah, that's probably what I'm going to have to do, just ignore it. That's what my mom had to do during the election when the same lady kept sending her emails making fun of Obama's Kenyan relatives for their Africanness, and kept it up even after my mom brought up the point that in insulting Obama's relatives on that point, she was also insulting my mom's relatives because my mom has a Nigerian cousin who's story is fairly similar to Obama's except that unlike Obama, my mom's cousin really WAS born in Africa.

/in other words, other than me whining about it, it's pretty hopeless

The hilarious thing is with all the right wing commentators they try to have it both ways. They use them as a source of "facts" but when people point out they lie all the time they say "Well they are just commentators, they don't have to tell the truth."

This is just the requisite martyrdom for the further beatification of Saint Sarah.

Regardless of what the actual reason for her resignation is, it will be blamed on "liberals": the gotcha media, left-wing fear/hatred of The Blessed Mother, or sexism.

If the reason for her resignation has anything to do with illegal activites, the investigations and subsequent precedings will be deemed a "partisan witch hunt."

Palin won't be dropping out of the public eye anytime soon. There are still too many hangers-on who'll defend everything the woman does because they want to have sex with her. She'll be bigger than Ollie North and G. Gordon Liddy COMBINED.

Nor could I. Although I am finding the name "Spenard Builders Supply" popping up a lot. This whole building issue is getting very interesting very quickly.

Although I am surprised Palin would resign over any type of scandal. These days it seems like nothing seems to phase politicians and have to be removed kicking and screaming. Ted "the tubes" Stevens is a perfect example.

Not an unlikely guess on the heals of Vanity Fair article where it was leaked that McCain campaign aids were worried about her mental state and considered the possibility that she suffered from post-partum depression.

That's the absolute wrong conclusion to draw. They had Stevens dead to rights; the odds of him being innocent of the charges leveled are about those that Jack Ruby was the 2nd shooter in Dealy Plaza. The prosecutors just cocked up so badly that the judge had no choice but to throw the whole damn case out.

I personally hope she goes down in flames and during the trial comes up with some 'God made me do it' excuse. The Republican party can then finally have an excuse to disenfranchise themselves from the stupid god loving wingnuts which scare the hell out of the general public.

We need a strong Republican party which adheres to the core values of fiscal responsibility and hands-off government management. A democracy only works well if the people are offered a viable alternative to the current people in power.

Listening to her manic, crazed screeds about how the media is out to get her, I can't help but think about how Todd Palin's nightly routine must be just like from Chris Rock's bit from Bigger and Blacker, except replace the word "biatch" with "media".

img.timeinc.net

Fellas, you want your woman to be happy? All you got to say is, 'How was your day?"

'Honey, how was your day?'

Know why? 'Cause "How was your day?" is a -minute conversation to a woman. And as a man, you don't really gotta talk. You gotta just act like you're talking.

"Get out of here !!! Go on! l don't believe it!!! You don't say!! Really? Get out of here!! Go on !! l don't believe it !! You don't say? Get out of here !! I told you that biatch crazy!'

You gotta throw in, "I told you that biatch crazy !!" You know why? 'Cause every woman's got another woman at her job that she can't stand.

Women, y'all exaggerate everything. You turn it into some Dynasty shiat, like: "She's trying to destroy me!"

What the fark are you talking about? You wrap up bags at J.C. Penney's! What's she doing, ripping up your paper?

The Obama's kids participated in some campaign events, sure. But it was nowhere near the level of political proppery the Palin kids went through. Track represented Palin Supports The Troops, Trig and Bristol were the Palin Is Adamantly Pro-Life footballs. Piper and Willow didn't specifically symbolize anything that I know of, but they were photogenic and available.

I won't go as far as some and say this means Palin is a bad mom - hell, Piper found out there was a whole world outside of Alaska simultaneously with her own mother, and at a much younger age. I think that was probably great for her.

But if we're comparing the Obamas vs the Palins on the deliberate use of their kids as political tools, it's not much of a contest.

For a second there I thought Fredo had posted under the wrong alt when he so clearly recognized what an epic crash and burn this is for Palin.

But he almost immediately reverted back to the cognitive dissonance we've all come to expect from him and all the other idiot Fox-watchers here on Fark. I especially liked the weird tangent about Palin's superb performance in a debate where she announced that she wasn't going to answer the questions she was being asked by the moderator. That was one for the ages.

Meanwhile, the rest of you knuckleheads here (Cchris, Muck, Random, and especially Canis) and on Fox keep trying to make a silk purse out of this nasty, dirty, stinky sow's ear. We will find out soon enough what this is all about. And then we can all have a good laugh.

I haven't seen any "outrage" over this little bit of speculation. But when you abruptly resign your governorship on a Friday before a holiday with what appears to be a hastily (and poorly) written speech, people will speculate.

It's really quite like what happened when she was picked as McCain's VP. They trotted her out, she gave a speech that they admitted was written for someone else, then sequestered her. So the rest of us were left to try and figure out wtf just happened. As you might recall, there was a pretty good amount of speculation about her and her family after that little dog and pony show too.
