Same with the "You can see Russia from Alaska" schpiel. It's a tourist thing. She kept acting like people had just gotten off the plane, and she had to explain these little Alaska nuances to everyone. Thing is, by doing so, she wasn't answering the questions.

We get different impressions of that then... I felt the "It's not like Alaska's a foreign country, Katie... Where you're all like 'how could you possibly keep up with what people are doin' in Washington D.C." was indeed bizarre and overly defensive... but I think she launched into that precisely because she couldn't come up with a single news magazine.

Sure, in a less stressful setting, I'm sure she could have at least come up with the name of Time or Newsweek or USA Today if given a few moments to think about it. But therein lies the rub... that's not an arcane trivia question. For anyone who actually reads, that answer would come right off the top of your head without even thinking about it no matter how stressful the situation... just like "what bands do you listen to," or "what TV shows do you watch," or "what are some of your favorite movies." She couldn't think of any she reads because she doesn't read any.

I mean, I'm sure she reads magazines... just probably not any that don't have perfume sample inserts. And as I said once before, I will at least give her credit for being smart enough to know that Vogue, Cosmopolitan, Us Weekly, and People were NOT acceptable responses to the question.

She's incurious and anti-intellectual. She reminds me of a cousin of mine who, when over at my house one afternoon while VH1 or TV Land or somebody was running the old Dick Cavett show with John and Yoko, looked up the screen and said "I cain't believe that guy's wearin' them cowboy boots."

They're just very small people who live in a very small world and don't have any interest in anything outside of it... and that's fine if you want to sell real estate or be a loan officer or even a doctor or an engineer or an attorney... but as POTUS, taking a keen interest in the outside world is AT LEAST half the job.

You need an understanding of the history of the world before you became a part of it. You need an understanding of philosophies and religions and beliefs that don't match your own. You need to have at least a rudimentary grasp of economics and law and sociology and a familiarity with technology... and on and on and on.... and you need the sort of curiosity wherein you would gain this sort of knowledge regardless of where you are or what you do.

Is she dumb for my office or your office? Maybe not SUPER-dumb... (especially for mine, I work in TV... we've got Sarah Palins crawling out of the woodwork ) but we're talking about the OVAL OFFICE.

I think she's a not-ready-for-primetime politician who was absolutely treated unfairly by the media and by liberal haters in general, who I find detestable.

I had no illusions that Palin's going to be president in '12 or whenever. We quite clearly need some economically experienced adults in charge.

I gave Palin the benefit of the doubt on some things you no doubt do not. That ended today. She's a quitter, and her speech as to why is obviously not the full truth.

I've said that enough times. I guess I'm done. Nothing more to say, really. I'll make this my parting shot.

Some points, though:

1. Should have been given an immediate quiz on his feelings on Uzbekistan.

At least he can identify it and can handle a simple question about an issue that, while perhaps not the most pressing, still is important for a President.


Could he have a week into running? The point is, he wasn't asked those kinds of questions. His deep, lengthy, distinguished experience was accepted by the mainstream media. Palin -- the governor of a state -- got the gotcha shiat instead. She decided not to play along, and it made her look really bad.

This isn't about defending Palin; it's about once again pointing out the corruption of the agenda-driven media.


2. Had stories on how Sasha and Malia may not even be his kids -- in the mainstream media; not some obscure Freep-like site.

MSM never circulated the rumor about Bristol being Trig's mother.

But they did circulate stories about Obama's wife being a white-hating racist.

When and where did the mainstream media say that?

3.Have stories on how Sasha and/or Malia are the class slut in their elementary school. And then do mainstream media stories on the kid in class who's banging Sasha.

5. Have his intelligence questioned endlessly for the times he sounded dumb when his teleprompter stopped working correctly. Or when he "uuhhhhed" his way through an interminable sentence.

You're kidding, right? How many damn "OMG - USELESS Without TELEPROMPTER!!!" stories have we seen?

Ask Obama where he gets his news, I bet he names 5 sources off the bat, at the very least. If he had been in that interview with Couric, he'd have nailed it. I mean, seriously - how bad to you have to be to get totally PWN3D in an interview with Katie Farking Couric?

And the point you're missing, anyway, is nobody in the Obama-fellating media would have even considered asking him such a question. My point's that; not Palin's qualifications for president or vice president; or lack thereof.
