I'm beginning to take Occam's Razor to this ... I think it may be as simple as Palin thinking she's "the hot commodity" post the 2008 veep run, and that anonymity being a governor in Alaska will kill that.

So she's got to get to the lower 48 and lose the shackles of having to do governing.

The timing of this on a news and political black hole of Friday July 3 is to suppress the worst part of the story: That she's quitting, breaking her promise to Alaskans.

She's gambling that three years from now, that part of the story won't matter to the cheering throngs she's gathering for her movement toward '12.

If this is really all this is, it is one of the worst political miscalculations I can ever remember in my lifetime.

The daughter/fiance was human interest. They were cynically used as props by the campaign. I noticed the distinct lack of McCain's other daughter and yet there was no real looking into that was there?

Out of sight, out of mind. They could have said, 'she's pregnant, they're getting married, she needs to be left alone to work on school/prepare for being a mom, we ask that you respectfully leave them alone.'

Instead, they were given talk show gigs and put in front of as many cameras and microphones as possible because it kept them in the news.

My initial take when I watched her press conference was that she's just up and lost it. That something snapped, mentally. I think the reason we're all searching for some kind of scandal to explain it is because it was just so incredibly bizarre.

Meanwhile, a few weeks back, against my better judgement I let my mom talk me into accepting a facebook friend request from a family friend who's extremely far right because she wanted to see the pictures I'd posted. As I said, it was against my better judgement, and now I've got her going full retard all over my facebook wall because of what I posted about Palin. It makes the freepers and fark trolls sound sane. She's going on and on about how the evil dems didn't let the media say anything about Michelle Obama but the Palin kids can get attacked, and calling Chelsea the White House dog isn't anywhere near the same as all of the horrible mean spirited things against poor Sarah and other Republican politicians. Moral of the story there is, don't ever let a parent talk you into friending people who you know will flip out over what you post, even if they claim that they've already been warned that they won't agree with you.
