I can't decide what's worse, the fact that a left wing blogger from Alaska hates Palin so much that she just can't let it go or the number of people who believe the left wing blogger from Alaska because they hate Palin so much that they can't let it go.

You investigated her 10 ways from Sunday for every conceivable crime under the sun, and when that failed miserably you just went back to ad hominem attacks. All because she scared the hell out of you for about two weeks when it looked as if the Chosen One could actually lose after all.

Sorry; did I say there were 22 errors/lies/hallucinations by Biden in the debate?

There were 28. (new window)

But Biden won the debate because of his grasp of the issues. Or at least his grasp of saying whatever the hell you want, factual or not, and those in the media with an agenda will do the rest.

Shrugging Atlas: I called my parents the day McCain picked Palin for VP. The first word out of my mother's mouth when I said the name was, "Who?"

A week later and they were both talking about her as if she was the second coming. All I've heard from them at family gatherings since the election is pissing and moaning about how unfairly she was treated.

My wife and I just let them piss and moan without bothering to resond as they aren't looking for reasoned debate. But I can tell you I cannot farking wait to see them tomorrow. I'm going to rub their noses in this all damn day.

Lenny_da_Hog: shower_in_my_socks:

She's part of a NEW one. Involving many of the same players. That's the point that's being made here.

Don't you believe it. It's nonsense.

Believe me, I think Sarah is one of the worst people ever to hold any public office (and being Alaskan, I've seen some reaaaaal doosies), but she is not part of that crowd.

Bill Allen worked with the old-school Alaska GOP Guard. When Sarah was trying to be part of that an not rocking the boat, she reaped the Veco rewards.

However, once she caved to public pressure and revisited the tax that Veco killed, she was the enemy.

Now, while the investigation was underway, we *did* get some by-catch convictions that weren't part of the main scandal -- Ted Stevens was by-catch. He was taking money because Bill owed him for many, many years of lucrative deals, no quid-pro-quo. We also found a couple of crooked prison lobbyists and such. Veco was dirty, now it's dead.

I appreciate your perspective. But according to media sources, as recently as this May, both Allen and Smith were part of an "ongoing investigation." And their sentencing was supposed to be delayed until June 30th, when the feds are/were due to give a report on the extent of their cooperation.

I haven't heard about them getting sentenced this past week, but the timing of all of it is a bit coincidental.

If it isn't this, it's something else. The resignation reeks of scandal. But I can see why people are looking at this first.

I can't understand what's worse. That we've seen this series of events a thousand times and it always ends the same way, or that you, much like Charlie when Lucy is holding the ball, don't see it coming.

The only reason the left has any "fear" of Palin, was the possibility that over half the country could have put her in national office, bot because of her ability to take a bite out of a serious platform.

That's not to say I agree with the democratic platform, but come on, teletubies on crack could have put better talking points together than what the republicans came up with last round.

I'll grant you that Palin didn't lie. Her utterings were so random and undecipherable that they couldn't possibly be understood, much less vetted as truth. The moderator would ask a question, and she'd start a sentence that had nothing to do with the question and end the sentence with a completely different subject that had nothing to do with the question. I have no idea how this would work while trying to iron out a treaty with another country, but it terrifies me.

Biden is a terrible speaker. The funny thing is, he still came across better than Palin.

As for making stuff up...can you see Russia from that bridge to nowhere?

I'm largely indifferent to Palin. I do not wish her ill. I do not think that she's necessarily a stupid person, just, perhaps, not as informed as I would want a Federal level administrator to be. I want to think that the person I'm voting for is at least as intelligent and informed as I am. Palin not only demonstrated that she could not express herself well, she came across as legitimately not knowing what she was talking about.

I do not, however, think that treatment of her has necessarily been 'unfair'. She has not endured anything that hasn't already been done to dozens of other people that chose to participate in the national spotlight. She chose to be McCain's runningmate. I do sort of feel sorry for her in that she may have had a relatively quiet and happy life/career out of the way. But, honestly, she has no one to blame but herself. Her ambition coupled with her general ignorance are to blame for the problems that she's experiencing.

Take that how you will.

They have not yet been sentenced. The ongoing investigation concerns two legislators.

Ted Stevens' son Ben Stevens was president of the AK Senate and is alleged to have taken the most money from Veco as part of the main scandal. Nobody is really sure why the Feds haven't charged him yet, but the most evidence gathered for anyone was against Ben. Ben had a "consultant" position with Veco at the same time he was the Senate lead, and took a $50K/year salary, but could not explain what he "consulted" on for the money. There are other irregularities.

The other is Former state Rep. Bruce Weyhrauch, whose trial is being held up on a possible SCOTUS appeal.

And before anyone says it again... fear her? My god, I'm farking devastated right now. I feel the way I felt when 'Journeyman' was cancelled. I feel the way I felt when the perfect Telecaster got sniped out from under me on eBay.

Sadly, this is the best thing that's happened to the GOP in years. If Palin was around (assuming she could survive the primaries) she was gonna take the base. Period. She was going to cut the Republican party in half and push away independents... She'd lock up the fundies and Real AmericansTM, leave non-fundies going "WTF?" and send undecideds and moderates heading for the hills.

I'm hoping like hell she still tosses her hat in the ring.

The sport of ranking who "won" a debate is cute and all that. If you're on the high school debate team. But I'm damn sure the point is to win the election. Winning the debate but not the election is taking your sister to the prom.

To "win" a debate, you basically have to convince people you did better than they expected you to do. So, in her case, she had to avoid falling off the stage onto her actual face. Overcoming expectations did not prove she was competent for the job. It failed utterly to move people out of undecided into the McCain-Palin camp.

Mr. Fredo -- I'm going to give you the same challenge I give every Palin defender.

The only thing I've "defended Palin" from is the idea that she's some slobbering idiot who can't walk and chew gum at the same time.

I'm fairly well sick of the liberal attack machine doing that to people they don't like.

Palin was inexperienced in many areas, because they simply don't come up for a governor of Alaska all that often.

What she seems to be showing today, however, is that she wants to keep aspiring for national office, yet not be bothered with doing the work it takes to govern her state as she promised to do, or to learn the things she needs to to be a sharper political candidate on the national scale.

So fark her!

Is my position really that difficult to understand?

1. Liberal assholes destroying people and their families for political purposes can generally die in a fire.

2. Sarah Palin clearly was, and is, not ready for prime time.

3. Sarah Palin is not a stupid individual, as evidenced by the success she's already had in her life.

4. See 2 again.

5. Sarah Palin could have disappeared post-election, went up to Alaska, put her nose to the grindstone, kept a low profile, did the people's business well, got Republican advisors to come up and help her on her shortcomings as a national candidate.

6. Sarah Palin didn't do that.

7. Now Sarah Palin's quit on her constituents. There's either a criminal matter or a scandal that's about to drop, or she just wants all the reward without doing the hard work.

8. In any of the scenarios from #7, Palin is toast. Forever.

Dude, how often have you ever seen a politician so farking stupid they don't even have to caricatured, but can simply be quoted directly?
