Oh absolutely. Just like a mirror.

Obama is left handed, Palin is right handed. Obama is male, Palin is female. Obama is black, Palin is white. Obama is a centrist Democrat, Palin is a conservative Republican. Obama ran for President, Palin was picked for Vice President. Obama has a trim, proper and elite family, Palin's family would fit in well at our 4th of July family picnic tomorrow. Obama had a tightly controlled message, Palin was reactionary. Biden's foreign policy experience helped Obama, McCain's domestic experience hurt Palin.

Obama won. Palin lost.

And Obama hasn't yet cut and run from his job.

Sorry. I'm just as "anti-Palin" as rational people come. If there's more evidence than what's presented in this blogpost then I'll certainly consider it. I'm also not at all dismissive of the idea that some scandal is going to erupt any moment...

That said, the blogpost is far from compelling evidence in my estimation.

Evidence? There isn't much right now? What was your first thought when you first found out she was quitting?

detfrost1: Asking someone what farking magazines they read, and they can't even farking read one is a hit job!?

Palin had figured out that Couric wasn't there to do an impartial interview, and was there to play "Gotcha!" on behalf of the political party she works for.

Palin wasn't experienced enough, however, to just get up and walk out of the interview; instead she shut down, and it came off looking bad.

There was also selective editing of the interview to make her look more extreme and less informed.

Asking someone what the Bush Doctrine is, in her opinion, and she can't even bullshiat her way through that is a hit job!?

What the fark is the Bush Doctrine? Charles Krauthammer said it changed four times, and Charlie Gibson's reference wasn't the most up-to-date one. Krauthammer's only the one who invented the term and first discussed the Bush Doctrine, and is only about 1,052 times smarter than you or me.

Someone mentioned upthread (I think jokingly) that Fox News would still hire her. Maybe just maybe she WAS offered a lucrative job offer and she didn't want to wait for her term to end to take it. Still makes her a biatch for quitting her responsibilites to Alaska.

"Sarah Palin is another Alaskan politician that received campaign support from VECO.

According to Lenny's memory from doing very hard work researching Veco's donations during the course of the investigation (yes, those were my close friends who took everyone down)....

Veco contributed to nearly every single Alaskan GOP candidate, maximum amounts, usually. When you look at *any* GOP fund-raising form from the APOC, you'll see a pattern -- Veco Execs would give the max to nearly everyone, whether or not they were running in their district.

The Veco money machine is a completely different issue from the Veco Scandal. In that instance, Veco paid legislators to vote against a tax restructuring. Direct payment, quid-pro-quo.

Again, Sarah had no power. She is not part of the Veco Scandal.

deadapostle - Okay, I just watched her resignation video (new window).

Is it just me or did she:

A - Take WAAAAY too long babbling on
B - Sound like a blithering idiot
C - Make a really bad choice of location with all of the animal noises
D - Keep referencing her kids and pointing to her left and then when they pan out, her kids were on her right
E - Perform that speech in front of about 10 people

?

I've seen better speeches by children in elementary school.

Seriously... She's so awful, and not just in the verbal diarrhea she can stumble into or the fake folksiness.

She's awful because she simply cannot help herself and inevitably turns into a sorority girl... she gets all self-aggrandizing and defensive and starts trying to build a coalition looking for support in numbers.

Here it was "you have to be naive to not see an effort on the national level..." and "a good point guard makes her way down the court, blah, blah, blah," but she might as well have been saying:

"C'mon, you guys...You know she's only doing this because Chuck liked me better than her... That's the reason she's singling me out. You know it's not fair... Who was up all night hangin' streamers, Christina? Who's idea was the 'Evening in Morocco' theme, huh Cathy? Stacey, who got her dad's neon "Rick's Cafe" sign that everybody said really set off the whole theme? huh? You guys know I worked harder on this than annnyybodyyyy!"

the opposite of charity is justice: Is she actually saying that she'd just waste money if she stayed in office taking fact-finding missions around the globe? That she could do more political good outside of politics? WHAT?

Yes. She is putting Alaska and the American people first by abandoning her governorship to become a private citizen because that will be more effective. Apathy is a problem you see, and it would be apathetic to continue to perform the duties that she swore on a Bible to perform. To continue as governor would be quitting!

Don't you see?

This speech sounds like she expected whatever the scandal is that prompted it to have come out before the speech.

Indictments coming Monday?

Friday evening announcements are bad enough but holiday announcements = "we want this shiat buried as deeply as humanly possible".

Ohh, and Michael Jackson died! This is our week!

I have no idea what the underlying scandal could be but it has to be huge. I'm wondering if its even a political scandal in that I'd think she'd be better able to weather such while in the office than outside as a regular citizen. Sex scandal?

If it is a scandal, better to work it out off the national stage - her core fanbase won't pay attention.

I still think she's following the money. Whatever this is it's to protect her payday.

Doctrines have been around for a long time (new window). I don't think Krauthammer invented it.

Yes, the question was confusing, but she could have answered any one of what, four ways, i think, and still been correct. But she had no idea what a doctrine was in relation to the presidency and so she managed to fall flat on her face. I can forgive that though, she was a local, then state level politician.

But 'what newspapers do you read' is not a tough question. There's also her basic history failings, like thinking the Pledge of Allegiance was written when the Founding Fathers were around -- well, that's troubling.

FishingWithFredo:

Mr. Fredo -- I'm going to give you the same challenge I give every Palin defender. Give me one Palin quote on a major world issue that you consider an articulate and intelligent commentary on that issue.

Just one.

While you're Googling that, I'll remind you that the McCain campaign refused to let Palin give interviews or press conferences, and when they finally caved to public outrage, they HANDPICKED the Gibson and Couric interviews as creampuff opportunities. In both interviews, the looks of surprise and befuddlement on both Gibson's and Couric's faces when Palin falls on her face are as genuine as it gets. Far from trying to "get her," they were genuinely shocked at how ignorant and unprepared she was.

What's more, everything on Palin's plane/bus was required to be OFF THE RECORD. And I think she eventually gave just one press conference, toward the end of the campaign, where she actually took questions, but it was short. They were terrified of letting her speak off-the-cuff.

And to cap it all off, in this weekend's "press conference" where Palin announced her resignation, she refused to take any questions. Heh.

Well, when I first found out she was quitting it was mixed with a story of a 2012 presidential bid so my first thoughts were conflicted... "thank god" mixed with equal parts of "oh god anything but that" and "god it would be nice to watch Obama curbstomp her"

Keep in mind that the U.S. Attorney has discretion to pursue cases in different ways.

For example, they chose not to pursue anything against Spitzer when he resigned.

The Spitzer situation would have been a tough federal case to make and the U.S. Attorney has not been on a roll indicting Alaskan politicians (making Ted Stevens into a victim takes some extra special level stupid).

So, purely speculating my butt off, this could have been a rush deal done to end further digging. The feds can drop pursuing a case which they might lose -- and would no doubt be accused of pursuing purely to "get" an Obama opponent. And she gets to keep her ambitions alive theoretically. Just have to rebuild without being able to prove what a great executive she really is. Er, yeah, that was the claim, right?

Elements of the Bush Doctrine were evident in the first months of Bush's presidency. Conservative commentator Charles Krauthammer used the term in February 2001 to refer to the president's increased unilateralism in foreign policy, specifically regarding the president's decision to withdraw from the ABM treaty.

Don't you believe it. It's nonsense.

Believe me, I think Sarah is one of the worst people ever to hold any public office (and being Alaskan, I've seen some reaaaaal doosies), but she is not part of that crowd.

Bill Allen worked with the old-school Alaska GOP Guard. When Sarah was trying to be part of that an not rocking the boat, she reaped the Veco rewards.

However, once she caved to public pressure and revisited the tax that Veco killed, she was the enemy.

Now, while the investigation was underway, we *did* get some by-catch convictions that weren't part of the main scandal -- Ted Stevens was by-catch. He was taking money because Bill owed him for many, many years of lucrative deals, no quid-pro-quo. We also found a couple of crooked prison lobbyists and such. Veco was dirty, now it's dead.
