I know what she's going thru. I've got the titanium bolts, stays, and screws... though I didn't have to use a cadaver bone in my spine... got to use my own hip bone.

He actually had read the script early on and called me and said, "You can't end it like this. It's too dark." He really feels that darkness cannot win over light.

Are we talking about the same David Lynch? I'm confused.

I came here to say this. In what David Lynch movie does darkness NOT win over light? Isn't it a tad on the hilariously hypocritical side for him to tell his daughter that her movie is "too dark"?

So if you are single parent and HAVE to work you are abandoning your kids? I hate the rich.

Honestly, if you have the choice to NOT work and you decide to stay home, then that is probably a good thing, as a single parent. She was expressing a personal opinion. I do not think it was an judgement on all "working mothers".

Aside from that, I loved Boxing Helena. So there.

LOL

Lynch has a very defined view of "light vs dark" - the blonde girls should always be good and dark hair ones are bad... the blonde girls will always come across much trouble at the hands of men and dark haired women. His movies are amazingly simple really - with alot of imagery and random stuff thrown in. But at thier base its just a good person in farked up situations who has to find thier way out of it. Sometimes the "way out of it" isn't perfect... but is "out of it".

My wife had a correction to flat-back last year. Since her hip was already harvested for bone for a previous fusion gone awry. The surgeon used bone from the previous fusion which he has to redo and cadaver bone as well. She also has few ounces of titanium in her as well.

Did you get the bone growth stimulator as well?

Sounds like the plot to her dad's next movie.

It wouldn't be a "straight" story if I did.

Also, that was a true story, so it doesn't count.

Fused from L1-L4 (L3 removed). It was replaced with a cadaver femur bone. They took some bone chips from my hip to mix with the cadaver bone. Titanium rods w/ screws.

:)

What about Wild at Heart? I happen to remember that ending on a pretty happy note. Easily one of Lynch's finest films, too.

And as for the 16-year hiatus, it's called "not making a good commercial movie, hun." There's only room for one daughter of a famous director in Hollywood, and that welfare recipient is Coppola's daughter. You know, the one who messed up Godfather III and made Lost in Translation and some other films that could have never been made unless daddy's backers had a lot of sympathy.

Somebody ought to explain why David Lynch never talked about the real life homecoming queen who was murdered in the real life Twin Peaks (in San Bernardino County in Southern California) next to the property he owned way back in 1973?

this stimulator...I'm not sure what that is. Actually, I should ask my mother. She spent 3 weeks taking care of me and quite honestly, I don't remember much from after the surgery... ya know, all the drugs... My mother reminds me of stuff all the time that I completely forgot.

Spondy. Seen my "films" recently, and I am still baffled that all that hardware is inside of me. My L4 and 5 were off alignment or slipped, by 75%. Serious slippage.

How is your wife doing since the surgery?
I woke up with a numb/tingly foot that wasn't there before. But, I'm ok with that considering how bad it was before the surgery.

Noone made it to the last page I see...

Q: It played at Cannes. Do you think film festivals are still relevant today?

A: Absolutely. I also see them as dangerous because they're this great forum for things, but there's a decision that's being made about what's being seen. It's not easy to get into film festivals. You've gotta be different -- the lesbian Eskimo film or some brand new idea so it stands out. But I think it's all important to the business.

I would pay to see that.

I'd check out her new one out of plain curiosity. Did it already play at Nuart theater? I live right by there, but can't find the listing.

Dang, last showing was July 2nd. Oh well.

Guess I'll just keep responding to myself in threads to keep entertained. A movie would have been a nice change of pace.

Just off the top of my head, Eraserhead, Blue Velvet, Wild at Heart, Dune, and Inland Empire all had happy endings. Twin Peaks, Lost Highway, and Mulholland Drive had sad endings. The Elephant Man was mixed (he died, but he seemed happy).

Hmm, I never considered Eraserhead's ending to be happy whatsoever ... Blue Velvet does conclude, in some senses, but I never really considered that to happy either. For me, Dune fits the Straight Story category, where it was pre-existing material, so it's hard to judge that (other than he agreed to make it). I haven't had the courage to see Inland Empire yet.

yup, classic film noir. I *love* dat sh*t. It was my life story from birth until I was in my 40's due to the inhertiance of a family business with lots of intrigue. thankfully out of it now.
