Many Americans can't deal with being told that countries like Norway and Sweden have a higher standard of living than they do. They can't deal with the fact that there are other ways of doing things, and those other ways actually do work.

I say many Americans, not all- there are lots of reasonable people. Only the knee-jerk "I hates yoo-rup" types are the ones I'm aiming at. Hell we even have those types here in Canada too. But they're usually the mouth breathers nobody wants to admit they're related to.
