God, I hope this means the end of her political career.

I actually do fear the possibility of a Palin run in 2012. If the morons flocked to her like they flocked to Bush, there's enough of them that she could win.

Her major supporters are idiots. A majority of them are fundamentalist Christians who would love to see that pesky separation of church and state disappear.

Regardless of whether you're a Democrat, Republican, conservative or liberal, no good will come of a Palin presidency. Unless you work on the Daily Show.

I turned on the TV and spit my pop out. What a terrible setting and speech. Whats with all the farm animals making noises in the background? I think i heard a sheep, a goat and maybe a turkey?

Well anyway i dont blame her. she was unknown and was asked to be VP. She had no idea what attention that would bring. And she did take a lot of shiat some well deserved and some not.

I think she tried too hard to impress people with her generic speeches about patriotism and god. She had troubles being herself in public. im sure she is a fun honest naughty outgoing and decent person in real life (probably more so than most of the people you see on TV) by evidence of her hell yeah comment right after she talked about praying and whatever else she was saying.

Damn she is a hot milf.

No good will come of a Palin nomination either.

zedster: there was never a small government party, it just a matter of small national with large state governments or large national government with smaller state governments

Well, sort of. Smaller federal governments means states can CHOOSE to be small or large. Sort of how they wrote it up 200+ years ago.

If it's a scandal, why not just come out with it now? Every single journalist is calling all of their sources and someone has got to be itching to reveal it. It's just stupid to not tell us yourself when we're going to find out.

The disconnect between the real Palin, the strong ambitious intelligent woman who's experience dwarfs Obama's and the Palin that the mainstream media tried to paint her as is vast.

Lost Thought 00: vanity

It wasn't a fluff piece. It skewered her. The Runners World or whatever it's called piece with the sexy running-gear photos was a fluff piece.

The Vanity Fair piece probably made her cry, and she's resigning because she can't take the pressure of being a politician on the national stage in a country with free press. That's my theory for the minute.

Every Republican strategist, that is not batshiat insane, has stated that her only chance at national office was to finish out her term and display good leadership at the state level. Also, use that time to bone up on basic geography and core conservative issues, legal decisions, etc.

She couldn't even do that?

Stick a fork in her. She be done.

ZangTT: My Fave: Texas, to replace Kay Bailey who'll be running for Governor. I'm in Texas and even I don't know Kay's likely replacement. However, Palin and Kay are wary of each other due to Palin's support for Rick "Good Hair Secessionist" Perry.

'Gone to Texas' was my first thought, too.

Florida, Pennsylvania or, most high-risk, California would be better for her for general election purposes.

From_The_Year_2000: Lost Thought 00: She JUST had an entire vanity fair fluff piece written about her? Why would you do that if you are going to resign a week later? This makes no sense.

You thought that was a fluff piece?

Meh, got my magazine articles mixed up. Still, though, WTF? If she were President, God Forbid, would she resign just for the hell of it halfway through her term? Would she resign the first time the Democrats put forth a fillibuster?

She just killed her entire political career. Her only options are to try to be a commentator (The Fox on FOX?), or to be a homewife.

Demetrius [TotalFark] 2009-07-03 04:13:05 PM
There's no way she's running for president in 2012.

You don't quit being a governor and then ask to get hired as president.

But then again, I haven't been able to figure her out in the past, so I could be totally wrong about this.

Klingon Penis 2009-07-03 04:13:18 PM
NobleHam: Scandal, or Senate run. Resigning just to run for the Senate seems odd, though.

As I said, especially since there's already a Republican incumbent in the seat that's up for election.

She just torpedoed her Presidential aspirations, so either she's retiring from electoral politics altogether, there's more to this story and another shoe will drop soon, or she's extremely, extremely farking dumb.

Lenny_da_Hog 2009-07-03 04:13:23 PM
Then it again, it could be because she was given the Sitting Duck Award (new window) today, beat out even Rod Blagojevich!

The National Society of Newspaper Columnists chose Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as the winner of its annual Sitting Duck Award, a tongue-in-cheek honor that pokes fun at the most ridiculed newsmakers in the United States.

Palin beat out Democrat Rod Blagojevich, the ousted former governor of Illinois allegedly caught trying to sell President Obama's Senate seat.

Blagojevich was the runner-up. Palin was noted for making headline after headline, month after month.

I don't think it's a scandal. I think she was getting creamed lately between the Vanity Fair deal and the resulting bickering between Kristol and the McCain campaign team. It's been pretty brutal, she probably thinks she's better off laying low for a bit. She's not just looking her usual crazy-stupid, she's looking like she is being treated like a child by the McCain staff.

I'm not agreeing with the decision, but maybe she thinks she's better off looking like a quitter than someone old time Republicans don't even respect.

Yeah, it's on Fox News right now, and while I'm not a politician, I don't think my go to would be "resignation speech around sheep." Also, whoever they were talking to before going to the speech was claiming that this is a brilliant move so that she can travel and write a book and get everyone to vote for her in 2012.

Color me skeptical.

I bet it has something more to do with corruption, possibly dealing with government contracts.

Maybe it is not a scandal, maybe she just got massive corporate sponsorship and the deal was to step down to get the dough.
