Announcing that you're resigning on a farking Friday -- and a Friday that many Americans have off, no less -- means SCANDAL.

Something's up...

tweekster 2009-07-03 03:33:59 PM
On the one hand it would be funny to see her completely crushed.

On the other hand, the democrats need legitimate competition, the GOP has decided they don't want to be it.

In a two party system, both parties need to be a legitimate threat.

DamnYankees [TotalFark] 2009-07-03 03:34:01 PM
Why the hell would she resign? Something must have happened. Sex?

Exactly... There's more going on here.

yeah I hope it's not a health issue for any of the family. maybe some old skeleton in her closet is haunting her. because CNN is hinting at scandal

Ed Finnerty: El_Dan: That's a whole lot of preparing to cram in to three years.

The woman reads every newspaper printed. This is nothing.

If only everything was written at the 8th grade reading level.

I'm sure she just wants to spend more time with her family.

The woman is deluded if she thinks she can win in 2012. George W. Bush already has the nomination and the popular vote locked up.

Does Sarah Palin have an Argentinian mistress too?

hubiestubert [TotalFark] 2009-07-03 03:35:20 PM
Sadly, what I'd like to see is Palin and Bachman BOTH go for a Presidential bid.

Not because I want them anywhere near elective office, but because the more time they spend fundraising and campaigning is less cash from the Crazy Train going towards good candidates, less influence by those folks over the more intelligent and less viscerally insane choices that those two represent, and to keep them from actually near the reins of real government--and it will crush the life from their campaigns, because neither of these women are Margaret Chase Smith.

Now then, with two women in the race, it would leave ample room for ANOTHER great Maine Senator to rise up, who is a bit more like MCS, and tromp the crazy ones' tuckuses...

jj325 [TotalFark] 2009-07-03 03:35:22 PM
Sadly I'm sure she'll be spending a lot of time here in Iowa. Bright side---she can probably win the republican caucus here but will self destruct shortly after ala Pat Robertson.

boluke01 2009-07-03 03:35:27 PM
thomps

They can only abuse the fundie vote for so long. Even out here in Colorado Springs people are getting annoyed with these wack-jobs. The only thing the republican party has going for them right now are the people who are flat out convinced any Dem is going to take their guns and somehow hurt the military. I can't honestly believe the entire republican party would go silently and put her on the ticket. It would be the death of the party, and who knows what would rise from the ashes.

I think if it were a family health issue she'd be putting it out front and center and playing it up.

Where does it say that? Not in the article.

Klingon Penis 2009-07-03 03:36:10 PM
The only Senate seat available in 2010 in Alaska already has a Republican incumbent, so it's not that...

And frankly, there's no reason for her to resign to pursue a Presidential run this early.

DamnYankees: Why the hell would she resign? Something must have happened. Sex?

She has had lots of sex, which is why her family is large. This is also possibly why hard-core republicans like her: they can fantasize about her despite their repressed sexuality.

Unless of course, you're faced with rising state costs, less tax revenue, and have zero idea how to handle such things. Then it's not so bad to throw in the towel...

Philly 2009-07-03 03:37:43 PM
I bet she's pregnant again.

El_Dan 2009-07-03 03:37:46 PM
boluke01: I'm not really worried, she'd get eaten alive in the primaries anyway. There are too many repubs that are far smarter and more educated than her. If anything, it will be good TV to watch the intellectual beatdown she will endure in the debates. But I can't even fancy a guess as to who should be on the ticket since I've been dissappointed with the entire party for about the last 10 years.

Yea, but Republican voters dig the whole "gee golly, I'm kind of dumb, but I've got that fleshy, trashy, real American look about me, and Democrats find me absolutely disgusting" thing. The woman is like a distilled version of George W. Bush.

I'll reiterate that today, the Friday before July 4th, is not the day you release GOOD NEWS or make a big announcement that is a positive for your career.

This is the day you bury shiat.

Something bad is either seriously up, or Palin's PR people are the dumbest motherfarkers on the planet (possible).

DamnYankees [TotalFark] 2009-07-03 03:39:06 PM
Here's the thing - no one ever resigns for no reason. Never. You resign only if (1) there is a scandal or (2) you are explicitely preparing to do something else. No one resigns because they just feel like it.

Ed Finnerty 2009-07-03 03:39:14 PM

Can you imagine what would happen if Barack Obama posed for a shot like this? The wingers would go absolutely ballistic! Seriously, I'm no expert, but I'm pretty sure you are not supposed to drape a flag over a chair and then lean on it.

Hobodeluxe: not only is she not running again but she's stepping down. hmmm...

Wow. Not even smart enough to have a back-up. She's going all-in, because if she doesn't get the nod in 2012, I doubt many Alaskans would be thrilled to vote her back in after she ditched them this way. I'd say 2016 is out. Who the hell would vote for someone who "was Governor for 2.5 years six years ago?"

/Plus her looks will have faded even more. No more twinkling stars ricocheting around the living room of Neo-con pundits.
