I've just got done trying this out actually. It allows you to disable autotweets but forgets this every time you log on, which kind of sucks.

Also in order to do anything with it you need to refresh your entire UI each time.

Not really worth it.

ignite ice 2009-07-03 07:19:19 PM
The reason you have to reload your UI is because World of Warcraft does not allow internet connections to be made from within World of Warcraft to outside -- IE, mods cannot send information out (though you can get information in).

This tweet mod gets around this by writing the tweets to a settings file. The add-on then reads the settings file and that's the information sent out (the basic premise being that it's sending information from a file on your harddrive, not directly from within the game).

Mods can only write to files when either the game is exited (logged off), or when you reload your UI.

Such a dumb add-on ;-P

but kind of ingenious, I'll give it that

Only time I use Thottbot is when WoWHead goes down for maintenance...and then still, Thottbot sucks so bad I just say screw it and got back to F5ing WoWHead.

Tabs that are always open in FF in the background while I WoW:

-The WoWHead talent build for whichever class I'm playing at the time (has been my blood DK and my disc priest lately)
-Least I Could Do

Call it a hunch, but I don't see this add-on lasting for very long. The reason for preventing outside communication from within WoW has to do with how the majority of automated gameplay is handled, not to mention compromising the 'sandbox' that WoW runs in.

So as popular as it might become, I doubt this will last long. Just aother passing 'net fancy.

/nifty idea

I don't know if I could "tweet" while healing...

It's enough of a challenge healing while under the influence of a bottle of wine (my last days raid healing required me to be drinking so there was a better chance I might heal the retards who couldn't get out of the voidzone/fire/ooze/etc.).

I prefer to tank instead of healing nowadays, lol.

I think that's just a Champion's thing. Although CoH/V might want it too as both of those games are far more role-play centric than something like WoW which is more gameplay centric.

FormlessOne 2009-07-04 01:37:44 AM
For those who care, don't bother.

It's two applications - an add-in for WoW to handle the user interface, and a .NET app that reads from & writes to the add-in's data files. Problem is, the data files are only read from or written to by the WoW add-in whenever the game's UI is loaded. (This prevents folks from screwing around with third-party apps inside a running WoW instance.)

To circumvent Warcraft's sandbox and get around this limitation, TweetCraft's add-in hard-reloads Warcraft's UI every damn time you send or receive data. Couple that with the "AutoTweet" feature, in which the add-on sends a tweet when certain in-game events occur, and the toy gets old fast.

Impractical as hell.

(Also, snagging LibDataBroker for this toy wasn't a slick move, either.)

This game is dead anyway. It's impossible to find a group anymore, a large guild is like 10 people, and the few who still play it are all level 80 and do nothing but sit in Dalaran waiting for "OMG Wintergrasp!" all day. Hey Blizzard, stop milking this corpse and get Diablo III out to us already.

It's not the game's problem, it's the players. Most players are far, far too casual to care about showing up consistently for 25-man raids. They just think, "Oh, I signed up, but they probably don't need me, and I have better things to do." They sign up anyway on the off chance that they may not have anything else to do.

The vast majority of players just can't be bothered with committing to raiding even a few times during the week. That's really where 10 man raids come in. It's far easier to find 10 players who want to accomplish something consistently than it is to find 25, and I am referring to guilds as well, not PUGing everything ;-P

Weird every guild I have ever been in started out low and then got to 80+ in no time, its easy to always find raids, I have to turn them down on my tank because I never have enough time.

Switch servers. Find one where you can get into a guild with the same schedule as you have.

More than anything a lot of guilds fell apart with the Ulduar patch. If it had come about a month or two sooner there would have been a lot more stability overall.

Now they are rushing a bit more with the Argent whatever patch, unfortunately I don't think it really has yet to capture attentions at all. That and the use of a generic armor set for each category of armor (plate, mail, leather, cloth) that's just been reskinned has people unenthused.

Most gamers know they are simply playing with dolls. So make sure we've got lots of pretty pretty dresses for them.

Oh well, WoW has a stable population and while I'm sure the recession is hurting it, it's not too hard to justify $15/mo "entertainment" expenses. Heck, there's a lot of folks who don't play anymore but just never got around to canceling billing.

I see WoW dying after the next content patch.

Arthas will be killed, Diablo and Starcraft will be out, and the game will have been out for five years by then.

You are aware that a successful MMO has a subscription base of only around 150k to 200k users right?

WoW isn't going anywhere. It's still a success with what, less than a 10th of the current user base?

MMOs have some amazing legs to them and really if you play one you've always got to go back to it every year or so because of the constant content and gameplay updates.

I have one running on my desktop right now. Port of the old LPC 3.1 mud driver to .NET that I wrote. The idea of the project is to slap a graphical user interface on the game and then use it to teach kids how to program.
