You ever see the Orion Molecular Cloud Complex... on weeeed? Oh, there's some crazy shiat, man.

Where does dark matter fit into the Standard Model? The layman's idea I have of dark matter is like ultra-heavy neutrinos.

Dark Matter is Nibblonian poop

and it makes the best space ship fuel

You fool, Dark Matter is worthless because of that dope Farnsworth. Now we have to go back to whale oil

It's so heavy that each pound of it weighs more than a thousand pounds.

FTA: Dark matter, thought to be composed of exotic physics particles birthed in the Big Bang, significantly outweighs normal matter, the stuff of stars, planets and people, in the universe.

Everything this layman has read has explained that dark matter is just matter that we can't see because it isn't reflecting any light or emitting any radiation.

I just want to add that I'm thoroughly surprised I couldn't find a galaxy photoshop'ded to look like a pot leaf in a GIS. I can see it now, all green tinged and what not...

anyone have PS skills and want to make my day?

i don't count the events in the 4 "movies" will just have to see what how they fix it in the new episode.

The movies are being chopped into 4 episodes a piece. He ruined dark matter as a source of fuel in the 3rd, in the 4th movie, they are using whale oil

Okay.

That means that... our whole solar system... could be, like... one tiny atom in the fingernail of some other giant being.

This is too much!

That means... one tiny atom in my fingernail could be - could be one little... tiny universe.

Could l buy some pot from you?

It isn't affected by the electromagnetic (EM) force, e.g. light which is EM radiation. This means it doesn't cool and bond into little lumps like planets or stars. It's not really exotic in the largest sense - it outweighs normal matter, after all - but not feeling the EM force does make it very different from normal matter, so 'exotic' isn't a bad term really.

That's not a bad picture to have (though of course it's all theory at this point, we haven't detected it directly). A very respected extension/explanation to the Standard Model has "super symmetric" versions of all the known particles in the Standard model, which are much heavier than the known particle. The theoretical particle which is probably the best candidate for dark matter is the "neutralino", which is the super symmetric partner to the neutrino, and is the lightest super symmetric particle.

Of course, that may be bullshiat. As I say, it's not been directly detected.

I'd prefer not to count the movies as continuity, since they wreck a lot of good things - "Leelu and the time travelling" seems to undo "the devil's hands" series ending episode, Seymour is now alive, etc etc.

Futurama had shiat for continuity anyways. For example, look at Zoidberg. His race dies when they mate, yet he had parents that discouraged his dreams and desires.

Just think of the last aired episode to the movie as "Fry screwed up again" with Leela
