Not America; stupid ignorant hicks that bemoan anything and anyone that isn't approved from the text of a book that has been translated over and over again to the point where it doesn't even say what it did originally.

People who think that having more flag stickers on their pick-up/car/minivan make them more patriotic. People who believe they can classify an entire swath of people as ignorant and dangerous based on the actions of only a few. People who think we should carpet bomb Iraq because they were not grateful enough for our invasion.

That's who he hates. That's who I hate. You farking people do not get to decide what America stands for.

America has rejected you. Enjoy screaming at the wind.

Relax. It doesn't matter what he says. He could cut the deficit in in his first term and they would say he did it too quickly and hurt business. We could see new energy technologies that make huge dents in our reliance on oil because of cap and trade and they'll say we lost traditional jobs of real Americans to new, untested technologies.

An interesting line of thinking. I would suggest that Jesus returning will be met with scorn by the fundie believers as well. "The trumpet was loud, but was that really a trumpet? We at FOX news want to know."

Forget about the last half of the column.

My plan makes electricity rates skyrocket

He is correct about what Obama said and about what the cap and trade will do to electricity rates. Fortunately, most of us are off the grid, so a $700 or so increase in our annual electicity bills won't affect us anyway, other than helping to clear our skies.

I have a hard time believing that once it is implemented there won't be a massive negative reaction when increased rates kick in.

Rather than the Founders of this country, Barack Obama's heroes have always been terrorists, felons and anarchists.

I'm sure the British officials at the time considered our Founding Fathers to be terrorists, felons and anarchists. So perhaps that was not the best way to go.

Instead of being all whiny about being rejected by the electorate, the Republicans need to specifically say what they feel is wrong with Obama's plans and - this is the important bit - they need to come with viable alternative plans of their own.

Sitting around biatching about things won't get them back into office. Fixing things will.

Of course energy costs would rise. As they rightfully should. That's merely reflecting the actual cost of production (including environmental cost) into the cost of the product. It essentially removes the subsidization of energy by the public, who end up footing the environmental costs.

Isn't that precisely what free marketeers should want? Why all the biatching? Why do conservatives feel entitled to a free ride on energy? Are they really sekrit Socialists?

ok, that's a start, but as a republican strategist, i'd like to tweak your ideas just a smidge:

They already KNOW what they have to do - ditch officially ignore Limbaugh while using his rhetoric to solidify a base, cut spending (except for the military), cut taxes (except among the middle and lower classes), repeal tweak the Patriot Act to obfuscate actions, and biatch slap continue to feed from the trough of most of wall street (and stop giving them money).

great, i think we can work with this, thanks for the suggestion, citizen!

Burn98 2009-07-03 02:42:41 PM
"They hate America"

The most common form of straw man argument: an assumption of bad motives. Instead of talking about what the president is doing, you claim the president has bad motives and talk about them.

It is one thing to say you believe someone's policies are bad for the nation. It is quite another to say they are implementing those polices because they hate their own country. No one can read minds. As soon as you start to talk about why some one does something you have left the world of facts and entered into conjecture.

But it is easier to claim "Oh no! secret Muslim socialist", than it is to argue the facts. If you opponents get drawn into arguing against your straw man, you win! That is what happened to John Kerry. He allowed himself to be drawn into defending his war record. This allowed his opponents to claim he was running on nothing else but his war record.

Lost Thought 00 2009-07-03 02:44:40 PM
Actually, as a full fledged liberal myself, he does hate America, and more importantly, he should hate America. America has become the bombastic, over-the-top villain from every action movie. He should despise America with every ounce of his energy, and stop at nothing to completely eradicate everything America stands for.

Bladel: The anti-Obama crowd needs a new schtick. They Jumped the Mustard too early, and are now just boring noise.

The thing, there ARE legitimate arguments/complaints to be made on Obama and for the life of me I can't figure out why instead of complaining about the real problems, they complain about effing mustard. And when Obama does something really bad, no one will believe the right-wingers and instead think that they are simply overreacting yet again and ignore it.

Unless, that's the right-winger's plan all along.

FTFA: Far too many Americans were distracted by other things to notice that on Friday, June 26th, 211 House Democrats and 8 Republicans defiantly thumbed their noses at the will of their constituents and passed the largest tax increase in the nation's history.

Yes, it's thumbing their nose at the constituents when they say during the campaign "elect us and we'll enact policy x", and then get elected and brazenly enact policy x! How dare they!

When conservatives try to argue that the public doesn't want cap-and-trade, renewable energy investment, and public health care, they're insulting our intelligence. They're saying we got tricked by the hopey changey stuff and didn't actually listen to what he wanted to do. Keep believing that and keep your messaging on "onoesamtrakistehboogyman," and see what happens next election.
