nvmac: Sgt Otter: Let me guess: biatching about Obama's "socialist level" taxes that are lower than Reagan's tax rates.

biatching about "anti-American" Rev. Wright, while ignoring the GOP's heroes, Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson, and Ted Hagee. Who when they're not yellilng that God punished American with 9/11 and Katrina, they're calling for a nuclear attack on Washington, DC.

Relax. It doesn't matter what he says. He could cut the deficit in in his first term and they would say he did it too quickly and hurt business. We could see new energy technologies that make huge dents in our reliance on oil because of cap and trade and they'll say we lost traditional jobs of real Americans to new, untested technologies.

An interesting line of thinking. I would suggest that Jesus returning will be met with scorn by the fundie believers as well. "The trumpet was loud, but was that really a trumpet? We at FOX news want to know."

You could imagine if some serious shiat kicked off and WWIII was imminent, and Obama came on TV and asked all religious people to pray with him and Christ pops up and world peace immediately followed they would say, "Obama's Liberal Jesus is a clear fake, he keeps preaching peace, love and tolerance. The Real Jesus would be taking it to the Arabs and Muslims, and instead of healing the sick with his miracles he would be using them to make wealthy people much richer. And what is this camel through the eye of a needle stuff he keeps talking about? We already explained that was some huge gateway in Jerusalem that camels could walk through a 100 at a time, showing how the rich will be first in line to get into heaven."

"When conservatives try to argue that the public doesn't want cap-and-trade, renewable energy investment, and public health care, they're insulting our intelligence. They're saying we got tricked by the hopey changey stuff and didn't actually listen to what he wanted to do. Keep believing that and keep your messaging on "onoesamtrakistehboogyman," and see what happens next election."

I'm just speculating but I think those "Real Americans" (the Republicans who seriously say the things you've said in jest) can't imagine Americans actually wanting what the Obama agenda promises. Those "Real Americans" have conflated their understanding of patriotism with the Republican party's politics to the point where disagreeing with the Republican party is tantamount to treason... Or so I see it anyway.

FTFA "Doug Patton is a freelance columnist"

That is all you need to know.

Befuddled 2009-07-03 03:10:49 PM
It seems like when the right first started using the Rovian/Atwater tactics, there was a goal, a justifiable reason (at least for them) for the mudslinging; it was a means to an end. Now it seems like their original goal has been lost, that it's all about spreading vitriol and discord; the means have become the end. They've forgotten why they are doing what they do but zealously keep at it because they know nothing else.

Well, since no one seems to know (or doesn't care to answer) the last guy who was "famous" for writing for GOPUSA, was one Jeff Gannon, aka David Guckert - the rent boy who served as the staged plant for about 3 years in the White House press room.

bravian - nothing wrong with being a freelance writer, but being on the payroll of GOPUSA is all you need to know.

If he had hated the country he would have intentionally thrown the election by choosing Hillary as his running mate and let the pancake man and the slutty flight attendant fark the country into a coma.

My plan makes electricity rates skyrocket

He is correct about what Obama said and about what the cap and trade will do to electricity rates. Fortunately, most of us are off the grid, so a $700 or so increase in our annual electicity bills won't affect us anyway, other than helping to clear our skies.

I have a hard time believing that once it is implemented there won't be a massive negative reaction when increased rates kick in.

Of course energy costs would rise. As they rightfully should. That's merely reflecting the actual cost of production (including environmental cost) into the cost of the product. It essentially removes the subsidization of energy by the public, who end up footing the environmental costs.

Isn't that precisely what free marketeers should want? Why all the biatching? Why do conservatives feel entitled to a free ride on energy? Are they really sekrit Socialists?

Thanks for the prep, man. We're going to go spend July 4th with my right-wing inlaws, and now I'm prepared.

mksmith 2009-07-03 03:49:55 PM
Mentat: Weaver95: Instead of being all whiny about being rejected by the electorate, the Republicans need to specifically say what they feel is wrong with Obama's plans and - this is the important bit - they need to come with viable alternative plans of their own.

Say what you will about the Contract for America, Dude, at least it was an ethos.

The Contract with America was only ever a "contract" in the Mafia-esque sense.

Unless they have IQs below 50, prepare for an ass-whupping with those arguments.

When the "true environmental cost" becomes arbirtary projections of damage wrought from global warming, and the govt is using a shell game to keep you from noticing that they've collected more taxes while they borrow like crazy, it's hard to buy the notion that this is somehow related to the free market.

/in spite of this, I'm in favor of energy taxes.

//The problem with disguising taxes as something else is that a lot of less intelligent people start to think that it actually IS something else. And you spend a big chunk of the tax money just managing the program (creating jobs that don't contribute to the economy).

lotteries
social security

Rather than the Founders of this country, Barack Obama's heroes have always been terrorists, felons and anarchists.

Our Beloved Founders:

John Hancock: Smuggler, tax evader
Thomas Paine: British expatriate, anarchist, rabble-rouser
Thomas Jefferson: Slave owner, hemp grower
Samuel Adams: Smuggler, terrorist, seditionist
Ben Franklin: Creator of the Post Office
John Adams: Monarchist, lawyer
Alexander Hamilton: Fired on Americans in the Whiskey Rebellion

I dunno....sounds like there's not much to admire in these guys. Apart from inventing American democracy.

I think Obama is the real deal....

What kind of kool-aid you been drinking?

from the article: As we look back on Barack Obama's first six months in office, one of two things must be true: the man either believes his policies are good for the country (in which case he is a fool), or he knows those policies are destructive to our economy and he is promoting them anyway (in which case he is every bit the autocrat and Marxist many of us warned he was during the campaign).
For those who supported this president out of frustration with either John McCain or with George W. Bush, is it not obvious to you yet that Barack Obama hates America? Those of you who thought Jeremiah Wright was an anomaly in this man's life, can you now see that this preacher of hate was just part of a long chain of negative, anti-American influences on Obama?
Rather than the Founders of this country, Barack Obama's heroes have always been terrorists, felons and anarchists. Where most presidents revere Thomas Jefferson, the author of the Declaration of Independence, and James Madison, the father of the Constitution, this president's role models have been domestic bomber Bill Ayers and Marxist Saul Alinsky, whose "Rules for Radicals" contains the blueprint for tearing a free America from its underpinnings and replacing it with a repressive nanny state. ...one thing is clear. These people hate the America you and I love, and they will do whatever they can to alter it forever.

"23 multinational corporations made up a business group formed at the January 2005 World Economic Forum. The group included Ford, Toyota, British Airways, BP and Unilever. On June 9, 2005 the Group published a statement stating that there was a need to act on climate change and stressing the importance of market-based solutions. It called on governments to establish "clear, transparent, and consistent price signals" through "creation of a long-term policy framework" that would include all major producers of greenhouse gases. By December 2007 this had grown to encompass 150 global businesses."

If successful international companies can support cap and trade then why not give it a chance? At this rate the lunatic fringe on the far right is going to slowly gain traction, oust Obama and reverse all of his policies anyway. We won't get another chance to do this.
