Boston thread + union thread + steroid thread? Hoo boy.

All of the officers accused of steroid use will be subject to drug tests for their entire careers.

so, if it was you or me, would we have gotten off so easily?
why exactly do the cops get a pass for illegal drug use?

FFS, set an example, throw them in prison, would go a LONG way to solving the illegal drug use problem (for cops anyways)

FFS, fricking does anyone wonder why we hate cops and their special treatment?

/dont give a fark how hard their job is, too hard, quit! break the law? go to jail like everyone else

There are GOOD apples in the BPD?

namatad: dont give a fark how hard their job is,

lol hard? Maybe SWAT or something. Your average BPD cop sits watching 5 dudes fix a water pipe while collecting overtime pay.

Well, I was snickered at for supposedly being some kind of cop lover in a previous thread, but I basically agree. I don't know what the typical criminal punishment for steroid use/possession is, but they should be both dismissed from service and facing that punishment.

On my honor,
I will never betray my badge,
my integrity, my character,
or the public trust.
I will always have
the courage to hold myself
and others accountable for our actions.
I will always uphold the constitution
my community and the agency I serve.

mmhmmm.

Sounds like some people need to have their badges taken away from them.

I am of the belief that because it is their job to enforce laws, they must have a better than average understanding of said laws. Due to this understanding, the punishment for breaking these laws as an officer should be increased due to their abuse of power.

So... are they accepting applications?

Cops deserve greater punishment than the average citizen because they are charged with enforcing the law so they should be able to know and follow it better than the average citizen. Hold them to a higher standard.

You have turned this state into a miserable, over-expensive, big-government hell-hole of waste, corruption, nepotism, greed, and contempt for the citizenry you are supposed to be serving.

I find it fitting that this article is directly next to the one where toll workers don't pay tolls. There's a similarity here that I can't quite put my finger on...

Oh, wait. It's lack of personal accountability and integrity. That's right.

Cops and politicians (lawmakers and law enforcers) should receive the same level of punishment as the rest of us. Don't like it, repeal the law.

Barnstormer 2009-07-03 02:49:42 PM
They've been dodging this issue for years. We had a commish named Mickey Roache once who refused to order drug testing for cops, which prompted morning DJ Charles Laquidara to sing "Who's the leader of the cops who won't inspect our pee? M-I-C-K-E-Y- R-O-A-C-H-E"

Yeah, it's totally all the FD and PDs fault.

Not the state government that's had the same one party hack domination for a century.

I'm torn on this....

Cops shouldn't be able to break laws. But steroids shouldn't be illegal. They are only illegal because of the whole 'protect the children' mentality. For adult males, proper steroids use is certainly safer than sitting around and being fat.

Beyond that, cops would benefit from steroid use. First, it will give them greater physical performance than they could achieve otherwise (IE - they'd be better able to do their job) AND, I don't know anyone who has ever taken steroids who didn't work out. Working out prevents fit, healthy, active 20-something year old cops from turning into fat, overweight, twinkle eating cops.

I'd much rather see a ripped cop on juice than a fat cop on donuts.

Bottom line - as long as it's illegal cops shouldn't be doing it. Anyone caught doing it should certainly lose their jobs and face criminal charges.

Now, increasing the penalty against them just because we don't like them isn't fair, and it isn't justice.

They should be treated no differently than any other poor black man on the street would be treated if caught with the same drugs.

You didn't read a word that was said, did you? It's not because we don't like them, it's because it's their JOB to enforce the laws that they are BREAKING. If this had been done by anyone else, the punishment would have been massively more severe and these pigs got away with some vacation time, sternly-worded letters, and dubiously valuable "training." If the people who create the laws or swear to enforce them aren't subject to them, nobody rightfully is.

People talk about things destroying the rule of law. Well, this sort of BS is a prime example. It makes people despise police because they know for a fact that the guy could very likely do anything and everything up to murdering them and get away with it the vast majority of the time. It makes people question the value of the law at a very basic level when idiotic laws are made and enforced with a vengeance on everyone except cops and government officials. It's absolutely wrong.

Many cops would be more than willing and able to destroy your life over the smallest infraction of the law. Hell, the ones I've known actually go home and laugh about doing exactly that. But they don't even lose their jobs when they're found to be flagrantly violating many laws? What kind of BS is that?

We don't want them punished because we don't like them, we don't like them because they are rarely punished when they richly deserve it.

Oddly enough, I don't take steroids. But if I did, I'd take them responsibly and while my testicles might decrease in size while on cycle, following a proper PCT, my testicles would return to their normal, pre-juice size.
