My dad was a trucker and sometimes he'd take me with him. back in the late 60's early 70's and me and I was seeing the country through a windshield. *good times*

I remember a lot of the old stuff.
Wolf Creek Pass was a favorite. Funny stuff.

I still remember the words to Convoy too.

/miss ya Dad

Way to wreck a potentially great 'Teddy Bear' thread there, Hobo.

Sniff.

Reminds me of a story about a big marine the boys call... Camouflage.

/they seldom make them like that anymore
//before he went, he said semper fi.

Teddy Bear's mom was a total slut.

Think about it.

Tom Waits did an excellent version of this song, but I can't come up with a link to it anywhere.

My parents both loved Red Sovine. He killed a little bit of my childhood, the depressing old coot.

BURN IN HELL, REDNECK!

Always loved the Waits version.

This seems to work for audio: Big Joe and Phantom 409

might have to wait a few seconds for play to start.

Phantom 309 is one of my favorite trucker songs, but for creepy highway country songs, nothing beats David Allan Coe's The Ride.^

I love every record Red Sovine ever cut.

My father used to listen to Red Sovine constantly when I was a kid. Thank you so much for posting this. He'd always sing "daddy's girl" to me.

/My dad died in April.
//I miss ya, dadums. :(
//something in my eye, etc etc...

True. The Waits version is bearable, bordering on cool (thanks to the delivery). The Sovine version is a maudlin, drippy POS.

Ehhh red sovine wasnt that bad, you have to remember the audience he was going for, quite a few songs are covered later to reveal their deeper, darker side.
