It's a call back to the Awk-ing noise he wouldn't stop making in Kiss Meets The Phantom. Same thing with the thumb - In the film he used his thumbs to teleport.

True Story: Ace was my neighbor after his run with KISS. Used to catch him in the paper with his wife, getting busted for filling fake prescriptions.

Also True: Used to see him & his family at Midnight Mass, Christmas. His complexion was literally green. Droopy & pockmarked (still boozing at the time).
