Banjo possessed similar speed, razor-sharp teeth and had three large slashing claws on each hand.

Similar speed to what...? They don't mention raptors for a few more paragraphs.

"Banjo"? What is this, the bayou dinosaur? Sounds like one of those bad Disney nature films from the 60's.

Bigger than velociraptor? They weren't exactly huge. 2 feet tall, 3-4 from nose to tailend.

They also failed to mention that the velociraptor in Jurassic Park is fictional.

The real "raptor" is a much smaller, feathery, bird-like thing. Still mean, but not as scary as those things in Jurrasic park...

Since this is Australia we're talking about, what are the chances this newer, bigger velociraptor is also venomous?

Yeah, but something tells me that I'd still cross the street to avoid passing one on the sidewalk. Of course, I have nothing to base that on except for what Laura Dern told me when we were dating.

Probably named after this guy:

Banjo Paterson

A relevant quote from the man:

"In all museums throughout the world one may see plaster casts of footprints of weird animals, footprints preserved for posterity, not because the animals were particularly good of their sort, but because they had the luck to walk on the lava while it was cooling. There is just a faint hope that something of the same sort may happen to us."

People, PEOPLE! Come on, now.

Look at the other names - Clancy, Matilda...

There are a number of Australian folklor icons, (besides the Alps). These are among them.

"Banjo" is for Banjo Paterson. Who, by the way, wrote 'Waltzing Matilda', albeit slightly different than the one you normally hear. Paterson was a poet and writer.

"Clancy" was from a Paterson poem as well. The Clancy character was snagged a bit for the film "The Man from Snowy River", which was also a poem by Paterson which referred to Clancy of the Overflow.

No doubt the next dino will be "Saltbush".

Actually, the partially-discovered "Utah-raptor" is closer to the "velociraptor" in size and killing power. Utahraptor ostrommaysi is the scientific name; it was discovered in 1991, much later than "Jurassic Park."

Banjo Patterson, bush poet

Andrew Barton "Banjo" Paterson (17 February 1864 - 5 February 1941)[2] was a famous Australian bush poet, journalist and author. He wrote many ballads and poems about Australian life, focusing particularly on the rural and outback areas, including the district around Binalong, New South Wales where he spent much of his childhood. Paterson's more notable poems include "Waltzing Matilda", "The Man from Snowy River" and "Clancy of the Overflow".

It was eaten by the giant farking salt-water crocodiles.

Fortunately, I did not think of that travesty. Instead, I thought of Banjo-Tooie, in which Banjo can turn into a dinosaur and Kazooie can turn into a dragon.

Oh how I wish people would immediately stop thinking that when something from Australia is named "Banjo" that it's related to the instrument.

Was Paterson not related to the instrument? I thought he was like quarter banjo.
