It's not that democrats have no history of racism - like all parties it has not remained ideologically static through history. That's not the stupid part of the article. What's stupid is all the time that people waste asking for apologies, or delivering scripted and canned responses as though it farking means anything.

And then everyone sits around sucking each others' dicks as though some righteous accord had finally been reached, all due to a symbolic but otherwise pointless 'apology.' Christ.

Sounds like a reasonable request. Southern Democrats (Dixiecrats) were with the Democratic Party since before the Civil War. Dixiecrats finally left the party over Civil Rights legislation the liberal Democrats pushed, made their own party up, and promptly failed.

Now they're with the Republican Party, supporting "traditional marriage," "family values," and other spin terms to mask their true nature as WASPs: White, Angry, Southern Protestants.

I was wondering how stupid the author of this article had to be, and having some trouble coming up with an answer. Then I read her other articles, the ones linked on the side, and I found my answer. Which is, "extremely."

I had to back and ook at tfa...then I lol'd.

I'm not as enthusiastic about Obama as I was when he first took office, but no matter what happens I will have eternal respect for any man who was able to withstand the sheer torrents of shiat being flung at him from all directions. all presidents get screwed in one way or the other, but this poor bastard is literally the target of the final (read: worse) death throes of a terminally ill opposition party. Jesus, even 'blue chip blacks' want something stupid from him.

Dear black middle class: I am sorry to have lumped you in with black republicans who believed it when someone told them the GOP will help them keep more of their earnings, thus forgiving all other sins and making it okay to support the GOP.

I humbly withdraw my previous post, go hide in the corner.

Thing is, your post still makes a point. There is a valid claim of historical racism from the democratic party (it was all the rage, back then). What's retarded is anyone asking for a farking speech. We're now knee-deep in a bullshiat culture where organized, press-attended mea culpas are all the rage. Obama's apology would be on behalf of history, but it's still equally pointless.

Meanwhile, real, current racism and absolute atrocities occur in the world, but we're all stuck in the ER waiting our turn to have the thumbs removed from our assholes.

But hey, as long as (insert individual or ethnic, religious, or otherwise "look at me!" group) gets a symbolic apology, I guess it's all good.

/believe it or not, I'm a flaming social liberal - have just lost the stomach for unicorn dialogue of atonement. STFU and, really, GBTW on fixing what's STILL wrong in the world.

Yeah, they all became Republicans because of race. Those people should be talking about the Republicans apologizing.

I hope that after Obama, every American will be judged on their merits. There will no longer be a "black candidate" or "white candidate" or any of that crap. I do not like most of Obama's policies and hope he is a one-termer, but it was about friggin time that a black person was elected President.

eraser8: I wonder how many people are actually in the National Black Republican Association.

As noted earlier, you'd be amazed at how many people still believe that the GOP has anything to do with fiscal restraint. That's a powerful incentive to join a bunch of seriously stodgy white guys who would probably be nervous if a real live black person offered them a stick of gum.

I don't know if it is racist but it is a cop-out. Politicians don't feel like fixing inner-city schools (and inner cities, period) and it is a sop to minorities. However, until they do make an effort AA is the best that we are going to get.

TFA: They are asking it solely from the Democrat Party. Further, they ask Democrats to stop "issuing unwarranted apologies on behalf of America, while simultaneously using racial politics for partisan political gain."

Hey, stop issuing so many apologies for stuff that happened in the past! Also, when are you going to apologize for all that stuff you did in the past?

Sabyen91 [TotalFark] 2009-07-03 12:26:30 AM
JackofBlades: When they go ahead and apologize for all of the black people leeching off of our welfare system, shooting at us, mugging us, spewing racist remarks and being generally ungrateful for all the help we've given us, destroying everything they touch and completely ruining pop culture, perhaps we Democrats will consider apologizing to their black asses.

That, um, was a joke, right?

HairBolus 2009-07-03 12:30:52 AM

from Right Wing Watch:

We've written about the National Black Republican Association a few times in the past, mostly to point out that they are a small, fringe group that tries to make a name for itself every election season by doing things like running ridiculous ads about how the "Democratic Party is a racist party."

The article notes that Palm Beach County Republican Party donated $20,000 to start the NBRA back in 2005 and, since then, "nearly everyone else originally part of the NBRA ... has since dropped out. The original board included eight members from around the country, and Rice's husband. In a matter of months, all the board members except Rice, her husband and Cadogan resigned." Apparently the final straw came after Rice insisted on sending out a press release praising President Bush's response to Hurricane Katrina.

Rice appears to run the organization with an iron fist, accusing those who disagree with her or not a being "a real Republican" and seemingly having a complete disregard for tax laws governing non-profit organizations, with the Tribune reporting that Rice has shuttered NRBA's 527 and is relying on donations that have come through the NBRA's non-profit 501c4 arm to engage in what appears to be partisan electoral work despite the fact that "under the IRS code, [501 c4s] are not allowed to help elect candidates or push partisan politics as their primary purpose."

Who or what are the "they" you're referring to? Is there some secret society that speaks for all black people and is responsible for anything a black person does anywhere in the world?

I bet Steele's mom goes to church and apologizes for her "no good cracker backing uncle tom son of mine!"

Seriously, I'd say I'm 99% sure.

His mom was born into a sharecroping family and raised him and livedin D.C. through civil rights. I bet she is as ashamed as can be.

So why ask today's Democrats to apologize for the actions of all the Souther Democrats that left the party when Northern Democrats pushed for civil rights? It's as if the National Black Republican Association is willfully ignoring history to score political points.

Although the phrase "Southern strategy" is often attributed to Richard Nixon strategist Kevin Phillips, he did not originate it,[1] but merely popularized it.[2] In an interview included in a 1970 New York Times article, he touched on its essence:

From now on, the Republicans are never going to get more than 10 to 20 percent of the Negro vote and they don't need any more than that... but Republicans would be shortsighted if they weakened enforcement of the Voting Rights Act. The more Negroes who register as Democrats in the South, the sooner the Negrophobe whites will quit the Democrats and become Republicans. That's where the votes are. Without that prodding from the blacks, the whites will backslide into their old comfortable arrangement with the local Democrats.[3]
While Phillips was concerned with polarizing ethnic voting in general, and not just with winning the white South, this was by far the biggest prize yielded by his approach. Its success began at the presidential level, gradually trickling down to statewide offices, the Senate and House, as legacy segregationist Democrats retired or switched to the GOP.

JackofBlades: Look at all of the organizations out there that claim to speak for black people.

The National Black Republican Association doesn't speak for black people. It speaks for both members of the National Black Republican Association.

And what difference would it make if the National Black Republican Association claimed to speak for black people? I could claim I'm the pope...doesn't make it true.
