I looked. You posted no links. You are lying.

HighOnCraic: These are the same people that argue that Martin Luther King, Jr. was a Republican. He actually supported Eisenhower--the last Republican to get elected while losing heavily in the Deep South--and stayed neutral in the Kennedy vs. Nixon election, and lambasted Republicans for nominating Goldwater.

Uh, I think Fark ate the post man. That said, after looking up on Alveda King, she seems hardly objective in this matter. Not saying she's for sure lying, but she's a pro-life Brownback supporter who is against gay marriage. She seems wholly taken with the Republican agenda and used MLK's name to promote Prop 8. I don't know if she is lying, but using MLK to promote prop 8. . . That kills any trust I have for her.

If there's anybody who has no business pointing their finger at anyone else, and self-righteously shouting "racist!", it's a member of the species Homo Sapiens.
Get real with yourselves, folks. Deeep down at the bottom of our souls, in the back of our brains, we are all "racist", or "tribalist", or "xenophobic", if you prefer. Whenever you, I, or anyone else sees another human being who is notably different from ourselves, our deepest, most hard-wired, and most heartfelt impulse is to kill them. This is what we are - savage, murderous, tribal killer apes.
If we weren't, we would still be scurrying around the veldts and jungles of Africa like our closest cousins - we are just a lot better at it than they are.
Trouble is, what was once a garantor of our survival has now become a liability - we got sticks and stones now that can break the whole world.
If we wish to live and become civilized beings, we must change ourselves. And to change ourselves, we must know ourselves - don't buy that "you have to be carefully taught" bullshiat. Human beings don't have to be taught hatred, racism, and xenophobia - it's in us. The challenge is to suppress it with reason, sublimate it to constructive purposes, and ultimately eliminate the impact it has on the way we behave and live.
But that's going to require some serious self-honesty on mankind's part - and I'm not holding my breath.

Not exactly an endorsement, but:

Letter from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. to President Dwight Eisenhower:

5 November 1957

Montgomery, Ala.

Honorable Dwight D. Eisenhower

White House

Washington, D.C.

Dear Mr. President:

The Southern Christian Leadership Conference in session at Memphis, in the state of Tennessee, extends its warmest commendation for the positive and forthright stand that you have taken in the Little Rock school situation. You have shown to the nation and the world that the United States is a nation dedicated to law and order rather than mob rule. In an hour so charged with the tragic possibility of world conflict, America can ill afford to be guilty of sins against her own way of life.

It is regrettable that by intransigence and irresponsibility, the governor and irresponsible elements of the state made it necessary for the use of troops to guarantee the rights of citizenship to Negroes in Little Rock. But the law of this land must be enforced or the result will be anarchy. The irresponsibility and intransigence of public officials must be countered by the stern determination of the chief executive to secure for all citizens the blessings of first-class citizenship.

As regrettable as it is, however, that federal troops were necessary, they must remain until there is every evidence that state and municipal officials in Arkansas will respect and enforce the decrees of the federal court. We, therefore, urge you, Mr. President, to keep troops in Little Rock until it is possible for Negro children to attend school freely without the threat of physical or psychological violence.

Little Rock points a dramatic finger to the urgent necessity for the President to confer with Negro leaders from across the nation. Men and women of good will, both black and white, look for Presidential guidance in solving the problem created by the breakdown of communications between the races in the South. By meeting with Negro leaders as soon as it is conveniently possible, the President will do much to give heart and courage to white people of good will who remain silent when their voices are needed.

We find reason to hope that the civil rights commission that is called for in the recent Civil Rights bill will do much to remove existing inequities in voting in the South. Yet, the time is passing and the effectiveness of the commission is being diminished in proportion to the time that is allowed to pass before the appointment of the commission. It is urgent that this commission be appointed immediately. We further urge you, Mr. President, to include on this commission two qualified Negroes of whom one should be from the South.

May the richest blessings of almighty God continue to be yours,

Sincerely,

Martin Luther King, Jr.

President (Southern Christian Leadership Conference)

But if you insist: "I'll have those n****** voting Democratic for the next 200 years." Lyndon B Johnson

So you can quit pretending Johnson was some great hero, or that he wasn't a racist. Because his actions were calculated.

Speaking of calculated actions:

"From now on, the Republicans are never going to get more than 10 to 20 percent of the Negro vote and they don't need any more than that... but Republicans would be shortsighted if they weakened enforcement of the Voting Rights Act. The more Negroes who register as Democrats in the South, the sooner the Negrophobe whites will quit the Democrats and become Republicans. That's where the votes are. Without that prodding from the blacks, the whites will backslide into their old comfortable arrangement with the local Democrats."
