eraser8: RemyDuron: The KKK was basically the militant arm of the Democratic party for a while.

IN THE SOUTH. But, in the South, there wasn't much competition. It was the Democratic party or nothing. In places where the parties were competitive, the KKK tended to be more Republican. William McKinley, Republican of Ohio, for example, was a KKK favorite.

Well, the KKK started in the South. It spread everywhere later, but IIRC the KKK that went nation wide had a somewhat different message than the KKK as it started. It started as, pretty much, an organization for middle class white dudes who hated black people and northerners. When it went nation wide it became more about protecting American whites from jews, communists, and blacks.

PascalsGhost: MFL: Nemo's Brother I hope that after Obama, every American will be judged on their merits. There will no longer be a "black candidate" or "white candidate" or any of that crap. I do not like most of Obama's policies and hope he is a one-termer, but it was about friggin time that a black person was elected President.

Democrats would never let that happen. Labeling people and pitting them against each other is big business...and business is good.

Go turn on Fox and watch Beck, hannity, and O'Reilly.

Come back and tell me how many times they mentions "us against them" in five minutes.

Half as much as Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton or Cynthia McKinney has, would be my guess. Those three have done more to hurt the equality cause than any grand wizard (including Senator Byrd) could ever do.

Actually, I like White, Angry, Southern Protestant better. White Anglo-Saxon is... not technically redundant, but it doesn't pack the same punch. It's a dumb saying anyway, so why not mess around with it?

King's economic bill of rights called for massive government jobs programs to rebuild America's cities. He saw a need to confront a Congress that had demonstrated its "hostility to the poor": appropriating "military funds with alacrity and generosity", but providing "poverty funds with miserliness."

King was a great man and a hero for the cause of freedom, but he wasn't perfect and he was wrong in many aspects. Einstein was smarter than any of us, but he could never figure out how to drive a car with any efficiencies. His mind and body just couldn't connect.

Yeah. Being white doesn't excuse you from hating all other white people. It just makes you an asshole. The funny thing is that this thread started because you are criticizing black people for that very thing. They aren't self-hating, they just beleive that they are no different than anyone else and can compete with anyone else, but your perception doesn't see it that way. You see them as black-hating blacks and came on here to condemn them. Your double-standards are nearly a laugh, but they are really a cry.

They're right. It's a damn shame that the Democrats used this ad to get...hey, waitaminute. Lee Atwater ran that ad for Bush, Sr...

And it's a damn shame the way that Obama used that "Magical Negro" song to denigr...oh, wait, that was someone else too, wasn't it?

www.pe.com

And THIS was certainly a horrible example of Obama, and the Democrats cruelly preying on the black communit...oops.

And who can forget Trent Lott's strong support of State's rights? Reagan's race baiting history? Or the Dixiecrats who were Democrats who were so hoppin' mad about the state of the Democratic party that they...became Republicans? Strong advocates for the rights, like Strom Thurmond, Jesse Helms. And of course, I'm sure that the NBRA is fond of the Southern Strategy that cost the Democrats so much, with their support of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, true?

If anyone needs to apologize, it's my own party. For far too long, we've embraced a strategy that has divided Americans by race, and we've used racial politics as a dividing line--and all the while, we have talking heads who ignore our own excesses and transgressions, while trying to paint our political rivals.

I have an idea: instead of demanding others do, why don't we lead by example. Responsibility, if we want to be the party of responsibility, we need to accept ours. And rather than demand apologies from others, we mend our own fences and earn the trust and respect of the people of this country. That is how you take responsibility. If that is what we want to embody, then we need to actually do it, rather than puff out chests and point fingers.

They certainly left the Democratic Party because of it. The thing that this group is talking about, I wonder if it happened in 1948 and they missed it.

The Democratic party was indeed racist for over a century. However, they've stopped and (I believe) apologized and attempted to make reparations. Does that mean Republicans can do it for another 70 years or so?

Fart_Machine: Phil Herup: Sabyen91: Hehe, THAT is funny.

Why?

Because King was an avowed socialist.

Who voted Republican until 1960. Was Republicanism socialist as well?

Really? Are you really gonna be an idiot too and deny King's socilism?

PascalsGhost: RevMercutio: Sabyen91: AirForceVet: Sounds like a reasonable request. Southern Democrats (Dixiecrats) were with the Democratic Party since before the Civil War. Dixiecrats finally left the party over Civil Rights legislation the liberal Democrats pushed, made their own party up, and promptly failed.

Now they're with the Republican Party, supporting "traditional marriage," "family values," and other spin terms to mask their true nature as WASPs: White, Angry, Southern Protestants.

Yeah, they all became Republicans because of race. Those people should be talking about the Republicans apologizing.

All I said was that King voted Republican until 1960. Why that makes me an idiot when it's the truth, I have no idea. So congratulations. By resorting to an insult right off the bat with no provocation, you've already lost.

I can prove what I say. You throw insults and apparently think that makes you correct.

Subby should apologize to the thread for not knowing the difference between a noun and an adjective.

I have to apologize as well. Knee jerk and all. This is kind of the point though. This group is asking for an apology from a group that shucked the racists in the 60's. Blacks voting for Republicans in the 60's made sense since they were the more progressive party (until dems got rid of the racist southern dems).

RevMercutio: All I said was that King voted Republican until 1960.

Which means, um, nothing.

His father was a Republican as well. Many blacks were because Republicans at that time were associated as the Party of Lincoln. That was before there was an active campaign to recruit disgruntled Dixiecrats pissed at Truman.

Now what does this have to do with King's ideology or his campaign for government intervention of social justice for the poor?
