Actual actual story: Liberty University bans College Democrats club, allows College GOP club to stay. Outrage and threats of lawsuits follow, instead of allowing the Democratic club back in, they cut off their nose to spite their face by banning BOTH clubs.

Official, even more farked up version from Liberty University: We didn't ban the GOP club because we didn't want to let the Democrats have their club back, we banned the GOP club because they endorsed a Pro-Choice Republican for Governor.

Leave it to Fox News to run a headline that implies that this is a LIBRULS HATE FREE SPEECH!!!111 whaaargaaarbl-fest.

Hey, those clubs weren't Real Americans, so why do you have to go around with all that Hate Speech against Good Christians and their values? The problem is that they organized under party affiliations, as opposed to the only REAL clubs that they needed: Conservatives and Dirty Commie Hippy Baby Hating Liberals.

If they'd just organized the "Democratic" club, with it's REAL agenda, then it would have been fine--and the faculty could then identify the Baby Jeebus Haters who were masquerading as religious students and boot them from violations of the honor code. And if they'd just called it a Conservative Club, then the stoopid Constitution Huggers who call themselves "Republicans" could likewise be shunned properly, as opposed to wasting a good Christian school's activity fees on such Unpatriotic fare.

Live and learn. Now they can get back to Lovin' them some Conservative Jeebus.

Been a while since I've been in college (GO UMass!), but are college republicans still comprised mostly of creepy white guys?

Oddly enough, I don't remember there being a democratic club at UMass, in the heart of the "most liberal state"... there may very well have been one, but I never ran across 'em. The college republicans were always doing one stupid thing or another to get some press...

Which is fine with me because most college students are too young and ignorant to have realistic positions on national, let alone world, politics.

Average college student: Ya, tuition should be free, and uh, busses, and uh beer, and uh weed man weed harms no one!

That's why nobody takes them serious. It's nothing offensive or personal, we all go through it [in one fashion or another]. College students really don't know jack squat about the real world.

So out with the political parties clubs which are funded by tuition and as a result tax payers money.

saying this is either about democrat or republican is kinda missing the point, just as much as fox screaming from the rooftops about the Affirmative Action Bake Sale being tossed to the curb, and not really caring about barring the Save the Gay Baby Whales meetings misses the point.

Both groups can still assemble on campus, he said, but they must clear the content of their meetings with school officials before getting meeting space.

you're talking about a university that has rules that disallow possessing tobacco, attending a dance (save us, kevin bacon), being alone with a member of the opposite sex (even off campus), and anything kinkier than holding hands....this is just another on a long list of things that add up to a control freaks wet dream.

this is just another aspect of it. they can have whatever kinda club they want, so long as the university controls it.

There was a Young Republicans club at my high school. And last month, when I was back for my 20 year reunion, I saw they still have it. I didn't care back then, but it's a bit off-putting to me now. Especially when the principals that the Young Republicans listed didn't look anything like what I've seen Republicans practice.

I live in Canada so political groups aren't that strong at schools anyways, but I wouldn't have cared if they did either.

I'm only 9 years out of high school and can't say I plan on attending my reunion. Didn't show up for commencement, heck I skipped that in College as well. Why can't people treat schools as a learning institution and not a social club.

At my company we hire summer interns and one of them [recurring intern] who's otherwise a bright fellow brags about his wine and cheese club and all the other nonsense that the school subsidizes. And I have to bite my tongue to stop myself from pointing out that's where his tuition [that he doesn't pay for himself] and my tax dollars go. You want to have a club, do it and pay for it with your own resources. Leave the school for schoolin'

For the record, yes, Fox did run a story about the college banning the dems.

Everybody took the story and ran with it how they wanted-- the Liberty University newspaper should have made a bigger deal.

That said, them deciding to remove official status is old news, and Fox is just looking to cause some trouble.

I think with the addition of Beck Fox has almost reached critical mass. It's unlikely that they can sustain the level of outrage they have achieved since that terrible night in November when they had to concede that we elected a terrorist fist-bumping Kenyan Muslin POTUS.

I predict that one of these days it will just morph into a home shopping network for Nazi memorabilia and nobody will even notice.

It's easier to think of FOX News as a college sports radio show talking about the team from across the state line. They're displeased with the dems, talk about them all the time, but don't have anything relevant to say.

Not that CNN is any better [and good god stop running so many god damn farking medicine ads] though. Frankly, I only watch mainstream media for the laughs.

If I ever met a news anchor I'd have this to say to them (stolen from Louis CK)

Me: Nothing you say or do matters. Period. I could have missed everything you have ever said, and nothing would be different.

Not that I think anything I've said or done really matters, but I still find it funny when they think they're all high and mighty important.

Fox news can get away with lying because they cemented the idea of a liberal media into people's minds. Now people are more lenient towards Fox News' blatant bias and half-truths because they feel that due to the media being liberal, there has to be a counter from some where. So Fox News is given a pass time and time again in order to combat the evil evil liberal media.

Its an amazing plan:

'The media is biased and we need a counter to that!'
'Here's Fox News that actually more bias and blatantly lies.'
'Doesn't matter! At least Fox news isn't part of the dirty liberal mainstream MSM media, so we'll take it. As long as they counter the liberal media, its OK to lie a bit.'

Its funny: the FN true-believers get indignant thinking that liberals think they are stupid, and yet, their favorite channel is actually HOPING they are complete idiots so they can just feed them crap without question.

/Yes, yes, all media channels are biased.
//But FN is the worse.

most are biased towards their "advertisers". just look at who sponsors the nightly newscasts on the big 3. that's who they work for. international conglomerates, too big to fail financial institutions, big pharma, military contractors etc. Eisenhower tried to warn us. During my undergraduate years:
The College Democrats stole my club's meeting space, then offered us pizza and glared at us when we took some.
The College Republicans hired Ann Coulter to speak on behalf of "moderates".
The Conservative Libertarian Alliance's founder cornered me in a computer lab and printed of a 200-page manifesto.

I never really decided on which was the worst, but I am certain that almost all people in party-political organizations at that age are douchebags.

Yeah, got to agree with that... not that one shouldn't have opinions on the political and social world at that point in one's life, but once you start joining organizations of "like-minded" folks you tend to start veering into opinionated douche bag territory...

I just graduated from Furman University, a small liberal arts school in Greenville, SC - famous alumni: Mark Sanford. Our College Republicans and College Democrats kept a pretty low profile on campus. But seemingly everywhere you turned there were adds for Conservative Students for a Better Tomorrow, a group of quasi-fascistic Ayn Rand devotees who split from the College Republicans because they were "too liberal". They advertised everywhere, protested against anything with even the slightest hint of the ghey, published newsletters and made blacklists of professors that were too liberal. Even at a very socially conservative campus like Furman, they were never given any serious attention or legitimacy by the student body and its members mostly kept to themselves. Which makes me wonder where they got all their money from, as they were hosting genuine A-list wingnuts on an almost weekly basis.
