Well, after the delay ended, Michael Bourn scored on a Lance Berkman hit.

Baseball players are such sissies. Oh, boo hoo, they didn't want to get stung while they sat and stood around for 10 hours doing basically nothing.

In South Africa, where they had the FIFA Confederation's Cup, there were literally tens of thousands of giant bees, and they still played their game.

First off, I farking hate bees. If I were that left fielder, I would've bounced the second I saw a dozen bees anywhere near my vicinity...

Second, I love the quote from Majestic about their jackets. It's pretty much the exact, pr/bs comment that I would've put had I written that statement.

FTFA:

Only the queen had her sights set on the inside of jacket of a ballgirl, who wasn't made available to the media by the team after the game. Not that she was at fault or even the manufacturer of the jacket, who filed off a quick statement before the game ended.

"To our knowledge this is the first time that bees have swarmed Majestic on-field MLB apparel," Majestic said in a statement. "We can only guess that the bees are attracted as Major League players to the warmth and comfort of our performance fabrics.

"However, players and fans should rest assured that our product testing has shown no risk from swarming bees. We regret the inconvenience and Majestic will be providing the affected ballgirl a replacement jacket shortly."

Is ESPN trying to cover this up while blasting
"BASEBALL IS AMERICA'S NATIONAL PASSTIME, BECAUSE WE TOLD YOU SO!" x 50

or is it just the regular ESPN personalities talking about other ESPN personalities talking about themselves?

How it is the #1 (allegedly†) sports network defies comprehension

† allegedly because they show bowling, poker, and other screensavers

If they don't have the contract, they'll trash the sport. Once they get the contract, it comes down to internal politics of which one must be sacrificed to give more air time to the others

Are you really comparing bees to midges? Let's compare, shall we?

Midges: They're small. They don't bite, sting or do anything harmful. Nobody (to my knowledge) is deathly allergic to them. They're a slight nuisance.

Bees: Sting, people are allergic to them, can cause great pain and suffering.

You can't be serious by saying it's the same thing. That's ridiculous. Nobody, outside of Yankee fans and Yankee fans claiming not to be Tankee fans just so they can seem like "the unbiased voice of reason on the internet", thinks that that game should have been stopped. Get over it.

Same thing? No. But if people at home are disgusted by looking at Joba's neck, you think he could have really been pitching effectively?

Let's try this: Imagine your favorite team's second best reliever on the mound in the playoffs. A swarm of -whatevers- descends on the field like one of the plagues of Egypt. And you'd come on Fark the next day and say "Eh, whatever. It wasn't bees, so it's okay. It was completely justified my team lost."

There's no farking way. If that happened to any team other than the Yankees (possible exception: Red Sox), it would be one of the laughingstocks of the last ten years of baseball. If the result was flipped and the Yankees won while Cleveland was on the mound as the biblical even occurred, there would be a thread full of the Fark Tinfoil Society claiming it was all a plan to get the big-market Yankees to the World Series.

All I ever did was say how this instance is a good guide to show the other game should have been stopped, even if they weren't identical.

1. "there would be people complaining" =/= "they're right"

2. it had already happened earlier that year

3. the Indians had to deal with it too

It seemed to affect Jabba the most, so I'd call it a bona fide bad break for the Yankees, but bad breaks happen in baseball, some that are even more one-sided and more intentional.

graphics8.nytimes.com

Hell, if it had happened in NY to the Yankees' favor, they would've given the midges the key to the city.
