Farkin A Bubba: Yeah, except for the 24 / 7 worrying about those under 25 that we care about...

The Baby Boomers were the generation that wanted everything to be given to them for free, and now they're the ones that want to keep everything for themselves.

They're the ones who helped create our modern American "culture" and then so it was never surpassed, they're the ones who restrict it today as the heads of entertainment companies. That way they will always be known as the "greatest" and will keep the rest of us seeking their approval.

They're the ones who were able to succeed based solely on their free education, and now they are the ones who have created a market place where it costs most people to go into hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt just to be competitive in the marketplace. Low-income jobs that would provide on-the-job training now require individuals to pay for 2 years of training at a "school" with no accreditation just to become a glorified secretary.

They're the ones who wanted the government to back off and butt out, and now they're the ones passing laws monitoring what we do in our cars, what we put in our bodies, and what we can watch and listen to - even what words we can and cannot say.

I cannot wait until they all die off.

I'm sure you're justified, if at least in your own mind, about your hatred for boomers. I'm a small business owner and have to have help for my business. Every under 30 person I ever hire I have to either wake up every morning because they've either been up all night playing video games or drinking or they work 3 days and call in sick 2. If someone around 25 is cleaning toilets for a living I'm willing to bet they're doing a sucky job at it.

We should increase taxes on Baby Boomers since they are wealthy and use a disproportionate amount of government spending.

I'm sure they won't mind sacrificing so their children can have health care.

I've seen a few exceptions, but pretty much this. That or they just stop showing up for work. I think personal responsibility went out the window about 15-20 years ago. Chode seems to bear that out, what with everything apparently being someone else's fault.

I've cleaned toilets, too. Did roofing one summer, house painting the next. In Phoenix. Crawled around in attics the summer after that as an electrician's apprentice. Worked in a warehouse, sans AC, driving a propane powered forklift for a couple years before college, saving as much as I could.

Taught me what actually working for a living means, as well as the value of a desk job. :-) I don't think most kids these days are getting that kind of education.

Unfortunately, Mexicans do all those jobs now because brilliant baby boomer business owners figured out they can make more money that way. (And the entry level desk jobs are in India)

Thanks boomers!

On the flip side, you have wages that haven't really risen since the 80's, and a corporate environment where everyone will be thrown out on their ass and replaced with temps to raise the company stock a few points. Why bother being loyal for a system that isn't faithful itself?

To me it's not really about the system as much as taking pride in what you do. When I was a teen I worked at Burger King with really no hope of rising to the glorified position of manager. But I was the best employee they had because I took pride in the fact I did my job well.

I haven't had a raise of more than .5 to 1% in 3 years. My department is consistently operated with 60% of the bodies we need. We are constantly behind and asked to give 125% everyday. Simply because our CEO would rather burn us out rather than hire bodies.

I won't blame the baby boomers any more than I blame the young "conservatives" like myself that were fooled 15-20 years ago into buying into the Republican mindset lock, stock, and barrel. It's taken me 15 years to go from dyed-in-the-wool Republican to Libertarian to might-as-well-be-liberal, and it's been destructive right-wing policies that have made me and a number of reformed Republicans see the error of our ways. Are we, 30 years from now, to be blamed for the decade of despair?

LaChanz: To me it's not really about the system as much as taking pride in what you do.

I can understand that, but almost everything is fungible at this point, including people. You don't pay the guy who has pride more, because you can hire two guys who don't give a shiat for what you pay him. And who cares if they cost you business? Most of the time there's no competition, or they're just as bad as you are.

That's all well and good, until one day at work you realize that even though you're going to graduate from college soon, you will probably be stuck at this job because the shiatty economy has left very few career-jobs out there. Then you realize that even though you're working hard, no one cares. The customers don't give a crap as long as their fat faces are stuffed. The manager doesn't give a crap because he's busy kissing the DM's ass. Your co-workers don't care because they already realized this sad joke a long time ago, or because they're just honestly lazy and apathetic. You clean extra and do your best to stick to standards and do a good job and for what? What, may I ask you? Self-satisfaction will not pay the student loans, my friend.

Of course the whole generation isn't evil.

However on the whole they where over-indulged by everyone from parents to government because the nukes were coming anytime. Maybe that is why they seem so damn greedy. They promised to change the world but things still seem the be the same if not worse. They have by and large turned into the crabby old men and women they so easily accused their parents of being.

So yeah many of us who bought their hippie shiat aren't really happy that with them right about now. The boomers having had their turn at running the country are running scared. All they manged was to choose a playboy and a fratboy, in that order, as their generation's selections to the be President.

Evil...no.
Changing f*ck all...yes.

Count me in on that. 24 and have been searching for a job for about 4 months now. Almost all the people I call to follow up on my resume give me a curt "We're still reviewing resumes, bye." I love slaving over a hot grill and living at my fiancee's parents' house to pay for bills and my financial aid, which can't be consolidated now because they've been overwhelmed with consolidation requests.

Excuse us. We've been working so hard to support our grown 30+ kids that I forgot how put upon you little 30- kids are. My husband, who almost died from a heart attack three years ago, works 50+ hours a week to make payments on two houses so our daughter and her family have some place to live since her husband got laid off right before Christmas. I was laid off from my job last year and haven't been able to find another one yet.

Two houses mind you that are now worth a lot less than we paid for them. I should tell the bank that we're baby boomers, so we won't have to pay the mortgages any more.

Oh and even with our great insurance we still spend around $500 a month for medicine and Doctors visits.

Yeah. We've got it made

I have to agree with you here. Even though I'm 27. I got a better job in order to not have to have roommates because they couldn't keep their menial jobs long enough to always have the rent, and there was no way I was going to save for a down payment if I had to keep bailing them out of trouble. Being well educated doesn't mean anything if you're still a lazy slob. Have fun in your crappy jobs for crappy money. I quit my job in December because of an ethics issue with my boss, and started a new job the first week of February with about a 25% salary increase. Tell me again how hard it is to find jobs when you're a good employee?
