Who cares? We elected Obama because he was black and flashy and that's cooler than old white men and slutty milfs from alaska.

Everyone knew he never had a real job before or ran a business, he was a community organizer- like al sharpton.

Don't blame him, blame whoever is typing words into the teleprompter.

ggggbabybabybaby: This always happens. Noone is ever able to promise everything they promise during campaign time. Personally I'm happy because I had it pegged that Democrats would of destroyed Bush the second time around, but they someone managed to screw that up.

At any rate if ya didn't see a Democratic president, or that Obama would backtrack on some of his campaign policies, coming: Then you're a moron.

I agree with you to a certain extent but this is more than just a little backtrack when he says taxing health care benefits "the idea is so radical, so out of touch with what you're facing, and so out of line with our basic values."

I would assume "our basic values" refers to basic values of the democratic party.

Just remember "It's OK when our guy lies but when the other guy does it, it is the end of the world"

Is Obama's newest slogon..."Anything, I will tax it."?

So much for not taxing us.

This thread is a waste of bandwidth. It's isn't hypocrisy when Obama does it.

I remember the firestorm of criticism that McCain got when he said this. Plus McCain wanted to get people their own insurance that they could own and take with them from job to job. They would not be at the mercy of the employer.

McCain had a great idea.

Obama bullshiatted you... he promise everyone Congressional level coverage while bashing McCains' superior plan. McCain actually had a plan, Obama had rhetoric.

Now you are going to get your benefits taxed anyway.

Ha Ha idiots... ha farking ha.

Most of you do not even know how stupid you are. He also swore that no family under the $250K mark would see a tax increase of any kind... that is already out the window.

Reality: McCain proposed taxing *all* employer based healthcare and then giving a $5K tax credit to offset that tax. Obama was against universally taxing health care. Today there are proposals to tax health care above a certain dollar threshold. As the value of an employer health plan increases at some point it stops being a benefit and starts to become a form of compensation. These cadillac plans are the ones that are being proposed for taxation as part of a comprehensive health care strategy.

Spin: ZOMG!!!eleventy11!! Sekrit Muslin's taxin ur dokters!

He's the President. He doesn't really have time to stand in that long a line.

So since he's doing something the other candidate was gonna do, the supporter of said other candidate are mad? That's a lil confusing

OgreMagi: Hang On Voltaire: Let me go ahead and get it out of the way. "Butthurt" "Wharbblle"

That seems to be the entire content of every leftist argument the last six months. No matter what is said, even if it is a justified criticism of Obama, the immediate response is "butthurt".

Learn a new trick.

Indeed. These libs appear to be, for the most part, young male basement-dwellers who can't get dates (with members of either gender) and seem to have a fixation on rough anal sex. One wonders what their mothers think about the chronic shortage / disappearance of hand lotion, hair conditioner, cucumbers and Polish sausage....

BobtheFascist: Huh. Just last night the news said he still opposed it.

Exactly. Obama still says he opposes it. (Whether he opposes it enough to veto it, we'll see.) It's Libs in Congress who don't.

Didn't he also bash Hillary for suggesting insurance be mandated? Now they want to charge a thousand bucks for not having it...

orbitalfreak: It is change. He said one thing, and changed his mind!

However, we're only looking at the bill taxing a portion of health care benefits. From this article: (new window)
Last month, [Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max] Baucus [D-MT] said he did not support eliminating the exclusion but was eyeing a benefit cap. Experts have outlined two likely approaches: taxing health benefits for workers above a certain income level; or taxing benefits over a certain value, perhaps $14,000 a year.

In either case, it's going to tax employer-based health care (not government-given care), it's not going to tax everyone, and it's still not going to negatively impact those least able to afford care.

0_o only $14000 a year? They better up the earned income tax credit when they pass this otherwise the IRS is going to be squeezing blood from the black hole that is my salery.

Eh, you can't blame 'em for being mad about a president who actually admits he was wrong and changes his mind when new information and situations arise. They're just not used to well-reasoned thought being put above hard-headed insistence that all you do is right.

Well, at least he's finally seen the light. Divorcing health insurance from employment is the first big step to fixing a lot of the health care financing problems. The only reason employers continue to provide it is because it's a way of passing compensation to employees tax free.

Tax it as compensation, add an above the line deduction for premiums as we already do for the self-employed, and let people buy their own damn policies.

Well actually divorcing health insurance from health care is the way to fix health care's financing problems.

Vacation benefits should be taxed.

Sick day/personal day benefits need to be taxed.

Healthcare benefits need to be taxed.

They ALL have significant value and need to be declared as income.

Time for equality for the self-employed.

I'm paid a salary. Most weeks I work far more than 40 hours with no OT. I get 2 weeks of sick days per year of which I use 3 - 5 at most. Explain to me why I should pay additional taxes on something I'm already taxed for (my salary).
