VaportrailFilms: Fat and Nasty 86: Sounds like she gets paid upfront with zero royalties. And as far as Bay's arrogant comments, well, he's an idiot for suggesting he launched Will Smith into stardom.

Bad Boys 1 is what did it, believe it or not. Before that he was just the Fresh Prince.
It's not arrogance. It's what actually happened. Give the man some credit.

How he SAYS it is a little arrogant...

He'd had a 5 year run on Fresh Prince of Bel Air AND had done Six Degrees of Separation before Bad Boys.

zunkus: Did we see different movies because these were the only two words I saw in your post.

Well, there is a version of that movie with Rose McGowen playing the part of Megan Fox. But if I tell you the name of it you'll be so intrigued you'll seek it out and watch it and then never forgive me. But since you're internet people and basically not even a real person: The Doom Generation. (new window)

Also Bad Boys I was a modest hit, it wasn't genre defining. It might have got Will Smith the ID4 gig, but the string of ID4, Men In Black, and Enemy of the State are what made him into the box office draw he is.

/I would rather give anyone, except perhaps Uwe Boll, credit before Roland Emmerich, but Bad Boys was at best a rung in the ladder.

//The Nicolas Cage thing is just insane.

Trainspotr: Yeah, Nick Cage was doing okay better before Michael Bay ever met him.

Shia LaBeouf wasn't a big movie star before he did 'Transformers' -- and then he exploded

Based on her current career trajectory she'll be dying of a heroin overdose in her West Hollywood studio apartment in six years so I'll go easy on her. Just get back on your knees and get back to doing what got you the job in the first place sister.

I'm sorry but if you didn't enjoy The Rock you might as well just give up now, nothing is ever going to make you happy.

I used to think Megan Fox was just another vapid actress, but I got to admit she is pretty funny.

Infinite Finite: I used to think Megan Fox was just another vapid actress, but I got to admit she is pretty funny.

She's amazingly grounded, is what I see. She knows she's pretty, and that this is why she's getting roles, and that this doesn't mean she's now suddenly an "artiste" who should be respected for her "work".

/almost said "body of work", but I'm pretty sure that's what she IS respected for.

Guntram Shatterhand: 1. He rips off his own Evil Dead film

I would be curious to know how exactly an artist "rips off" one's own creation and style.

When Jackson Pollack made Lavender Mist was he "ripping off" Jackson Pollack's Summertime: Number 9A?

That's a phrase people use for an artist who cannot move beyond their earlier inventions and statements. I think it was used correctly here.

Hilarious. It also makes it apparent the writers cranked this one out in a crack and mountain dew fueled weekend.

I guess I'm somewhat amused by the sentiment of "I went to see a Sam Rami campy horror film and much to my dismay I got a Sam Raimi campy horror film".

It reminds me of the type of people who go see Dylan in concert and complain that he sang off key.

Yup. Just Fresh Prince... star of a sitcom that every person from the age of 20-35 can recite the opening credits for by heart.

But totally it was Michael Bay's movie that made his career, not the most excessively syndicated sitcom in the early '90s.

Hyperbolic Hyperbole: id scissor megan fox

Throw in some explosions, jump cuts, and fighting robots, and you could probably convince Bay to make that movie. Although it'd be like 10 seconds of scissoring and 90 minutes of MICHAELBAYSPOSIONS!!!!!

It was like an impromptu RPG session of a plot, you know where you have stuff planned and the players do something in the first 5 minutes to completely throw that plan out.

Michael Bay is actually right on all counts....

He cast a pretty-much unknown Ben Affleck in ARMAGEDDON before GOOD WILL HUNTING came out in theaters (just as Spielberg cast pretty much-unknown Matt Damon in PRIVATE RYAN). Will Smith was not that huge when he was cast in BAD BOYS (this was a year or two before INDEPENDENCE DAY & MIB). THE ROCK was Nic Cage's first big action movie...
