(NJ.com) Stupid Michael Bay goes nuts after Megan Fox says "Transformers 2" isn't very good, claims he discovered Nicolas Cage and Ben Affleck (after they won Oscars)...and don't forget about making Will Smith a star in "Bad Boys II"   (nj.com) divider line 124

Sounds like she gets paid upfront with zero royalties. And as far as Bay's arrogant comments, well, he's an idiot for suggesting he launched Will Smith into stardom. Nick Cage wasn't HUGE before the Rock, but then again -- when have we considered him a "super" star?

If anyone made Ben Affleck, it was Kevin Smith. He gave him lines that we're damn near impossible to fark up.

And it's not like he "won" a screenwriting Oscar the year before Armageddon for Good Will Hunting.

Why is this news?

"I'm in the movie, and I read the script, and I watched the movie, and I still didn't know what was happening," she says. "So I think if you haven't read the script and you go and you see it and you understand it, I think you might be a genius." She has also said that she doesn't so much act in the film as run screaming toward the camera."

So she said something kind of funny that everyone that's seen the movie would agree with. Between this and arranging to meet the kid that tried to give her a flower, she seems pretty cool in addition to being smoking hot.

I guess it goes to the strength of the director under which he works. Some directors are able to get a good performance out him. Some give him enough rope and he stops being his character and starts being Nick Cage. Nick Cage is not a demon. He is a lizard, a shark, a heat-seeking panther. He wants to be Bob Denver on acid playing the accordion.

I'm no Nic Cage fan, but the guy was in Raising Arizona and Moonstruck long before Michael Bay came along.

Affleck was already famous for co-writing "Good Will Hunting" (for which he won an Oscar and got lots of press over) before he was in any Michael Bay film. (He also was known for appearing in a couple Kevin Smith films.)

But keep on tooting your own horn there, Michael...

I saw that Early Show interview and she seemed pretty damn cool to me. Snarky as hell and not stupid at all. Seems like she knows everyone just wants to bang her and isn't into all the media bullshiat, so she doesn't care about a carefully crafted public image. She's probably set for life already anyway.

Some sarcastic stuff she said:
Any guy she goes out with has to have a tattoo, or get one.. of her.
LeDoof said kissing her was like kissing a unicorn, but she would rather he said a woodland nymph faerie.
And the "I think you might be a genius" line was a great back-handed compliment on that stupid movie.

Every time I read something that is supposed to prove Megan Fox is an idiot, it instead seems to indicate she has some brains and they include self-depreciating humour.

What she lacks is the capacity to keep her mouth shut and promote projects according to the script.

I'm pretty much OK with that, but I can't forgive the fact that she doesn't drop by my house for some action once in a while. I'm also not 100% into the tats.

Cage wins Oscar for Leaving Las Vegas - early 1996, as Leaving Las Vegas was a 1995 release.

Cage cast in The Rock - 1996.

So Bay is definitely taking credit for "making" someone who already won an Oscar, BESIDES Affleck.

Yeah, it's trailer is horrid, but it's the director of Evil Dead doing horror. You know, even if it is cheesy and horrible, it will be entertaining as hell.

The trailer to Donnie Darko was shiat, but it was a good, though fantastically overrated, movie. The trailer made it look like a slasher flick where the killer wore a bunny suit.

if i were her, i would be pissed off, too. everything that is wrong with TF2 can be directly laid on Bay's doorstep. what a crap director.
the one piece of acting Fox actually got to do (hiding from the robots, terrified of getting found) is instantly made ridiculous because in the very next scene she's back to that remote "hey, i am just a tourist in the wrong place" look.
this is not the actors fault, but the fault of a crappy director with absolutely no vision.

How quickly we forget the sins that Michael Bay has committed.

Not one person in this thread has mentioned the following unforgivable act.

MICHAEL BAY DECLINED SCARLETT JOHANSSON'S OFFER TO DO A TOPLESS SCENE IN "THE ISLAND"

I mean at least shoot the scene, then cut it out, but still leak the pictures.

End of story.
DIAF Bay.

/ For her role in the action flop The Island, she offered to film her sex scene with Ewan McGregor topless, but director Michael Bey declined, wanting the film to be rated PG-13, not R. (new window)

ne2d: So she said something kind of funny that everyone that's seen the movie would agree with. Between this and arranging to meet the kid that tried to give her a flower, she seems pretty cool in addition to being smoking hot.

Disagree. Hot chicks are a dime a dozen in lalaland and he gave her the break. Even without that, and despite Bay being a douche himself it's simply poor form to trash the people you're working with. Also, she seems to have forgotten that her universally panned 'performance' is certainly part of the problem. Look, I don't care who asked you to the prom... if you say 'yes' then you at least have to be courteous to your date, even if you're not in love. She's the flavor of the month now, but I predict her actions only two weeks into this film will come back to haunt her in the future. Moviemaking is a crapshoot already - the last thing a casting person needs is any doubt that their choices will stand by the product.

Having seen Transformers 2 in IMAX (I relish being part of the problem) I have some obvious observations.
1. It's a Michael Bay movie so you have some genuinely sweet moments and then the rest of the movie reminds you it's a Michael Bay movie.
2. Exempted: the movie which is pretty much a Director of Photography/Stalker's love letter/oath of fealty to Megan Fox. And plenty of it is her running in slow motion.

Is it the wisest use of $12 gas? no, that might be a share of GE or maybe Nordstroms. But in its own way it's worth it, and a lot of that has to do with Megan Fox and the DP.

Nem Wan: Transformers: Rehash of the FX is at a toilet plunging 20% on Rotten Tomatoes. Meanwhile, Drag Me to Hell, whose trailer looks lame as hell, is at a surprising, guess-I-should-see-it 93%

Drag me to hell is leaps and bounds ahead of Transformers 2 which is a bad sequel of a horrible movie. Thats like saying fresh prince is better than charles in charge, both are bad only one knows it was bad and embraced it, the other acts like it was some cinematic achievement and refuses to acknowledge that it sucked ass.

God I really don't want to be this guy...

but I think he's actually right. Kind of. The Cage thing is out to lunch, but I do agree with the Shia/Smith/Affleck thing. Not that he made them in that before they were unknown, but he "made" them in the sense that now they had bankability and name and face recognition they didn't before.

Seriously, just hear me out.

Smith had a couple albums, and a successful TV role. But before he did Bad Boys his movie roles were small. That's not indicative of quality, but just the role themselves. But when he did Bad Boys between seasons of Fresh Prince he did get huge. That movie is what made him go from "TV star" to "Movie Star"

Shia is similar. Lots of minor roles (in mostly bad movies) and a TV series. Sure, he did star in Disturbia, but it's not like that movie was sold on his name. He was in it, he was the main role, but I would be hesitant to call him the star. Transformers (And Indy 4) and people know him.

Affleck is a little different. Sure he won an Oscar, but that doesn't mean that people knew who he was. Very few people were wanting to "check out that new Ben Affleck movie" in 1997. Armageddon made him a big name, which made him a star.

Again, being popular and being good are completely different things, so please don't tell me how good Affleck was in GWH.

Although one could also argue then that it is directly Micheal Bay's fault for Eagle Eye, Wild Wild West, and Reindeer Games.

bastard.

Bad Boys 1 is what did it, believe it or not. Before that he was just the Fresh Prince.
It's not arrogance. It's what actually happened. Give the man some credit.

How he SAYS it is a little arrogant...

He'd had a 5 year run on Fresh Prince of Bel Air AND had done Six Degrees of Separation before Bad Boys.

Well, there is a version of that movie with Rose McGowen playing the part of Megan Fox. Also Bad Boys I was a modest hit, it wasn't genre defining. It might have got Will Smith the ID4 gig, but the string of ID4, Men In Black, and Enemy of the State are what made him into the box office draw he is.

/I would rather give anyone, except perhaps Uwe Boll, credit before Roland Emmerich, but Bad Boys was at best a rung in the ladder.

//The Nicolas Cage thing is just insane.

She's amazingly grounded, is what I see. She knows she's pretty, and that this is why she's getting roles, and that this doesn't mean she's now suddenly an "artiste" who should be respected for her "work".

I guess I'm somewhat amused by the sentiment of "I went to see a Sam Rami campy horror film and much to my dismay I got a Sam Raimi campy horror film".

It reminds me of the type of people who go see Dylan in concert and complain that he sang off key.

Yup. Just Fresh Prince... star of a sitcom that every person from the age of 20-35 can recite the opening credits for by heart.

But totally it was Michael Bay's movie that made his career, not the most excessively syndicated sitcom in the early '90s.

Throw in some explosions, jump cuts, and fighting robots, and you could probably convince Bay to make that movie. Although it'd be like 10 seconds of scissoring and 90 minutes of MICHAELBAYSPOSIONS!!!!!

Michael Bay is actually right on all counts....

He cast a pretty-much unknown Ben Affleck in ARMAGEDDON before GOOD WILL HUNTING came out in theaters (just as Spielberg cast pretty much-unknown Matt Damon in PRIVATE RYAN). Will Smith was not that huge when he was cast in BAD BOYS (this was a year or two before INDEPENDENCE DAY & MIB). THE ROCK was Nic Cage's first big action movie...
